Seeing as I had some spare time today (while waiting for the Turkey to cook :) ), I thought I would make a Christmas update to my site. I finally managed to finish my in-depth review of Rage of the Dragons, which has now been posted up on the site.

I posted here because I would like people to comment on it and let me know what they think of the review style I used on this one... it is a bit different (and longer) than any of the reviews I have done before, and I would appreciate any feedback that people would like to give. If everyone seems to like the way this review was done, I'll probably review other stuff this way in the future (it just means I'll have to put a bit more effort in :D ).

Click here for the Rage of the Dragons review!

Enjoy the rest of your holidays everyone,
Kaz

Pretty nice - well thought out, with a pretty balanced viewpoint of the overall game.

Only missprint I noticed was in the Team Duplex section - you list the move as a hcf, but then go on to give the commands for a qcf motion! :D

Still though, an excellent review, and one that should prove helpful to those still unsure about plunking down the dough for this title.

Very informative and complete review, good work!

You're absolutely right about the practise mode, it's awful and a total waste of megs.

I've been playing RotD since it came out, now I cut it down to 2P matches against my buddies and experiments with those insane 30+ hits combos (which smell like infinites).

Problem is the engine, it's too blunt and lacks depth. RotD is fun, but that's about it.

Btw., you mention Abubo's cheapness... well, that's what I thought too, but Abubo isn't cheap, he's just brutally stupid, with his super-predictable style he really has no chance against advanced players (Radel's uppercuts, anyone). Johann is a different story, but there's always projectile x2, jump-D, low-D, back out, repeat... :D

Yeah, I have NO idea what they were thinking with the practice mode... totally dumb.

I agree about Abubo... he can be beaten fairly easily if you time it right, but if you let him whack you with one of his combos he will keep you up in the air for a while which gets annoying.

Johann is just plain frustrating though... I really don't know why developers make bosses like this (other than pure lazyness). I much prefer a boss that is challenging, but fair at the same time.

Thanks again... glad you like the review!

Thanks! I would review that game , but I don't have it (in fact, the only game I have left for my Neo pocket now is SNK VS Capcom). If anyone fancies sending me some NGPC games, I'll review them :D :D :D

lol :)

Really nice review. In depth is right. A player would be well informed as to what to expect after reading it, to be sure.

I've owned it for a while, and haven't played it for about a month...Your review makes me want to take a crack at Johann again, although I've only ever beaten him once (!!!) O well, challenge makes for replay, I guess.

Johann and Justice should be a tag team. Bastards...

Great review Kayuza, nice to see that your site is still no.1 in the reviews department. :)

I love ROTD and consider it one of the best and most unique BEU´s on the neo. It´s pretty easy when you get used to it, i can almost beat johann every time i meet him. He´s not much harder then most other SNK bosses actually.

Thanks both for the kind comments, it's much appreciated :)

I must admit I am not an expert player, so I do find some of these boss fights hard... I usually beat them eventually, but I guess I really could do with a lot more practice :) The main problem I have is the lack of decent competition around here these days... I only know like 2 or 3 people who are big 2D gamers

Sklabah -

It´s easy. I can beat him with any character pairad with any other one. Just learn the game and don´t be a chicken in the last fight. Nail him wihtout worry.

Rolling works well, and if you can get him in the corner he´s very vurnable. You can do and infinite technique since the AI for him isn´t very good. High and low attacks in the same combo always (almost) works.

Thanks, cgun. I'll work on the aggressive actions you suggest. I just seem to get nailed everytime by either a CD counter or that damn fireball. Aaargh!

I'll plug away! :D

Thanks

Thanks once again to everyone for the feedback and all the nice comments about the site. This is what makes doing the site worthwhile really - knowing that people are finding it helpful! :)

With regards to the screenshots thing, I thought it was a good idea to have more of them in the actual review, instead of just at the top of the page and on a seperate "additional screenshots" page. I'll carry on doing this in any future reviews I write, as well as add in a few other interesting things if I can, such as small mp3 samples of the games music if possible. I already did this ages ago with some of the older reviews, but I am going to try and do more of it in future.

Hope you are all enjoying your holidays still - I had to go back to work today!

Kazuya > I would like to see some older reviews updated. If i remember right sonic wings 2-3 have very basic reviews for example. It would be nice if you could add some to them. Otherwise, i can´t find anything to complain about, your site has helped me alot when buying neo-gems. :)

Yeah I know what you mean... some of the reviews on the site were done a long time ago, probably when I first opened the site. I do want to re-do many of the reviews when I get time - I'll maybe even totally re-write them (I have done this with a few reviews in the past).

To be honest, I think my opinions on certain games have changed now too - over time I have started to appreciate some games more than I did when I first played them... this will be reflected in any re-reviews I do :)
