OK, I know I`ll be flamed to hell but here it is anyway....

I owned anything Neo*Geo.... MVS, Home Console, Arcade cab, (didnt own Neo CD not worth it with long loading times...) and what they had in common? They all make you poor very very fast. I was into the Neo (I sold everything Neo now) because I liked the games, not because they look nice on a shelf, I bought games to play them - I didnt care where I got them from, or if they where 'complete' or came in the original bubble-wrap.

I have been reading rumours of a 'new' Neo Geo console - why bother? What is the point? Will it make the games cheaper? NO. So its still a no-no not just for me, but for many other people who would like to own a NeoGeo. If it had to be a new console, fine, but at least make one which will sell, and with sell I mean to OTHER people not already in the Neo Geo scene. So if anyone is seriously thinking of releasing a Neo Geo console based on the classic Neo it should:

- Be cheap
- CD Based (50x speed)
- Have shitloads of RAM (hell its dirt cheap now)
- Games would be released in ROM format on CD - when the machine is booted it would read the ROM and run from memory (its illegal? buy the licences)
- it should be official

Thats basically it, please feel free to add your stuff to the list, just dont be too harsh with me, ok

No console has ever been 50X cdrom, lol. The CD speed doesnt matter, its the RAm your system has. The Saturn is a 2X im pretty sure, and it seemed to run arcade perfect X men VS sf, ALpha 3 and MSH vs SF just fine with the RAM cart.

The neo CD needs more ram, since anyone with a CDZ knows, its not "Twice" as fast.

Well the speed of the CDROM isnt the main issue.... the issue is the price (not just of the console, but the games too.)

NeoGeo was expensive at his time because of the large amount of rom used in the cartridges.
It was a system made for arcades and then carried in the consumer market.
Now it's expensive, due to the rarity of most of his games.
NeoGeo was , is and will be an 'elite console', for hardcore players, who have a lot of cash to spend, there's nothing we can do about it.
If you want something cheaper and more mainstream-oriented, you have the Playstations and Dreamcasts (SNK developed for them).
I know sometimes it's frustrating to waste such large amount of money, but maybe (i said maybe) that is one of the reason that makes Neo-collecting so damn exciting.

The new system does make playing Neo games very cheap. Playing the real version of Last Blade 2 on a home console for $55 is crazy cheap. Not sure how cheap you need the games, but when most titles are under $40 (and good ones), I can't see how this is a rich man's game anymore.

Ummm, you don't have to have a lot of cash to play Neo games. You said you owned a MVS setup, which is about as cheap as it gets for all the neo games. BTW, we don't need another Neo console, technically SNK could just write a Neo emulator for like the Dreamcast or PS2 and just put out a bunch of CD's that contained MULTIPLE games. I mean the ROM download of MOTW or KOF99 is only about 80 megs. You could fit 6 or 7 games on one CD, hell if it's on PS2 or XBox you could fit the ENTIRE NEO COLLECTION on 1 DVD. I'm not saying they should do this but hey, I don't think SNK could be a viable competitor in the hardware market anymore, but if they went all Software (yes, like Sega) they could make a hell of a lot of money by re releasing old games, or producing new ones. Not to mention they won't be limited by the hardware of the old Neo if they released on the new systems. I mean wouldn't you people buy Metal Slug 3 on Dreamcast or PS2 for like 45 bucks???

I had an MVS system for the simple fact that games where cheaper to get... Oh, and on what marketing model an 'elite' console sold? If you want a product to be successful make it available to the masses, most people dont care if a game is rare.

The problem is that there is not a mass market for those types of games (i mean 2D beat'em ups and 2D action games in general).
Take a look at what happen to the Dreamcast:
nice system, powerful, with plenty of games from SNK and Capcom, but it died, and because it didn't sell enough.
Dreamcast had fantastic ports of Last Blade, KOFs, SFZero and 3 but it fails.
We have to face reality:
These kind of games are exciting, beautiful, challenging but not for the mass market, well at least not anymore.
One more thing, the success of a system isn't always based on total sales:
SNK created a system for a specific target of people, and i think they were successful because they released the Neo back in 1990 and 11 years after there's still a loyal support from gamers all over the world, so bare sales' numbers don't count here.

Not that SNK ever heard of memory compression techniques either..

I agree with Nostromo here. More systems won't really do dick all without more games, and unless the system were to be marketed to death like any mainstream one, non-Neo fans won't know/care about it. Think of it this way: Can you imagine how silly it may seem to non-Neo fans that some Neo Freaks would be going after a home-made system rather than the company's official hardware? I think they would collapse in laughter, which won't, just like putting more systems on the market, do a thing to make the Neo·Geo following grow.

You can give a starving person a gold-rimmed Worcester bowl, but it's useless without some food in it.

Heh you got me there man, certainly 2-D games arent mainstream any more (except for the GBA which is making 2-D mainstream once mroe).... So I guess in the case it is pointless to release another NeoGeo... or ANY other machine with 2D capabilities... Actually I wonder if the XBOX or Gamecube will be able to work with real 2d graphics... Very sad indeed =

Maybe its about time I face reality and move on....

And put a ability in the console that also NGPC games can be played on it, just like the super gameboy. That would be smooty

I like the position they're in now. Being mainly a software developer now they can put more effort into pleasing us fans

Sigh..X-Box doesn't support 2d graphic...only 3d....that's for sure...

even though this is off topic, the xbox would have to support 2d incase a developer wants to use prerendered graphics. I guess!!!
