In addition to the stuff that's been there awhile (the 3 Neo games, MS3 PS2, 2K1 DC/PS2, and KOF EX2 GBA), there are 4 new entries in Playmore's release list that are labeled as "PSone Books". Are these upcoming game releases? Please translate right away somebody... looks like KOF '97 and '98 are there.

ssIV SPECIAL, following the PlayStation's release title. Both Samurai games are pending.

If they could fix the loading times, I wouldn't mind them re-releasing the SS1/SS2 collection. That's the only home version, besides the Neo home cart (which I also have), for SS2 that's ever been put out anywhere as far as I know.

No, nothing can replace the perfection of the Neo original, but SS2 is too good of a game to have seen such a limited home release.

SSIII for PSX could possibly be as bad a PS game as there has ever been. What crap THAT was.

Still, you gotta wonder what SS3 is doing on that list. Maybe they're remaking it for the PSX... by now they'd have to know how badly that the first attempt sucked.

More importantly though, why is SS4 called Special? Was the first PSX release Special as well, or are they adding chars this time around? I wouldn't mind seeing SS4 with all the missing SS2 chars added and the ninjas toned down.

PSOne Book releases are just re-releases. Don't expect anything new except for packaging. JP Samurai 3 is absolutely horrible. Samurai 4 Special has Cham Cham in it but it's not all that special. :p

I never ended up buying the Japanese SS4 Special, just 'cause the SS3 was so rotten, so I never knew that it had Cham Cham...

Yeah, the PSOne games are just cheaper rereleases, nothing new on them.

I wonder how was the gameplay in SS4 for the PS? Man I hope it was not the same as SS3. Choppy shit.

I always thought SSIV for PSX was a passable entry. Not GREAT, maybe not even GOOD, but passable for those with no other way to play the game.

The control seemed okay to me, and the graphics, while not frame for frame exact with the Neo version, were fluid enough (in most cases) to satisfy an uninitiated person's need for 2D goodness. It was DEFINITELY a step up from the horrid, horrid SSIII PSX port. The load times even seemed decent. The big problem I had with the game was the muddy sound. The SFX seemed to be coming from some place underwater the entire time I was playing. Also, the lack of an English mode, while not really MISSED, would have been appreciated (cheesy English text aside).

Actually I thought that almost all of the PS ports of SNK games were pretty terrible, althought, like I said, I never played SS4, so maybe they got their act together for that one.

I also saw (once and only once, and when I went back to the store the next time it was gone, and I haven't seen it since) SS1 and SS2 on the same disc for PS. Part of the PS 'the Best Collection' series. Did anyone ever play that one? How was it?

Thought most of the psx ports of SNK games were kinda a let down except maybe MSX but I'll get em for collectors sake or something, although SS4 has peeked my intrest considerably

Will we see a Stateside release of these games, or are they going to be Japan only releases?

The SS 1 and SS 2 Fencing Pack (I believe that was what the title translated into) was a pretty decent collection. In some respects, I'd say it's a pretty damn good port of the Neo versions.

The big problem, ESPECIALLY with SS 2, was the loading times. They were awful...we're talking comparable to Neo CD 1X level slow. It was almost unbearable waiting for levels to load. And God forbid you didn't turn off the cutscenes

Don't forget the PC port. :D It's basically a direct port of the NeoCD version. This came out ages ago and was then rereleased by Interplay (along with Fatal Fury 3, Darius Gaiden, Raiden II, and several other quality games old pc ports) about two years ago. PC version can be had for $5 and if you dig aroudn in Interplay's online shop enough you can get double packs of SS2+FF3 in one jewel case and the such.

Edit: The coolest thing about these releases is that while you still want to put the cd in for the music, you can copy all the files to your hard drive (they're all about 8 ~ 20 meg per game) and bam, no load times! :D

お…おはよう…

*keels over from sickness*

I uh...have played SS4 on PSOne. Kun and I were down in Austin once, and he dragged me into a game store and had it put on demo, to show me Cham-Cham's supers and stuff.

It's not a bad port...not like SS3 -_-. You get the bonus characters too, and it helps to make up for the missing frames. I'd probably buy it if I had tons of spare money, but I don't. It's fun, and playable.

But keep in mind, both SS3 and SS4 are more of pretty picture than a fighting game. SS4 has a lot of easy infinites and 100% combos. In SS3, it's even worse...redizzies...

And if you or your opponent has a super bar? Oh man, it's over, those things do way too much.

But still, they are artistically amazing. I just wish there was at least some way to competitively play them without getting routed from the first hit. I think Street Fighter 2 may be a little more fair than those two games...and that's not saying much.
