Megaton anouncement = Nintendo owns the Playstation name?

Anyone heard about this?

"Nintendo is set to file suit against Sony next week, declaring that the Playstation brand, and all of the profits made by Sony from it's sale, belong to Nintendo. While reading over the original contract between Sony and Nintendo (Sony were to make a CD drive for the Super Nes, entitled the Playstation), a lawyer for Nintendo noticed some key wording which showed that it was Sony's responsibility to make the drive, and that they broke the contract, not Nintendo, like initially believed."

"According to sources, Nintendo is almost assured a victory, gaining all the profit's made by Sony off the Playstation since its introduction in 1996. Even if Nintendo do not win outright, they are guaranteed the rights to the Playstation name, and Sony will have to immediatley change the name of their console."

BTW. I think that tomorrow will be the day for the big (Megaton) anouncement.

Also, if Nintendo have bought Capcom, or Sega, or Namco, as rumoured, then everyone else better just pack up and go home!

I will not be that optimistic, since 1996 six years has passed, which is enough in most legal systems to consider the legal action engagement period as expired, moreover Nintendo has been consenting about Sony’s actions, so they have created an legal appearance, in other words, no one can act against his own actions.

Where did you take this information from?. Anyway if this goes to Court it will be a very interesting proceeding to follow up.

Its a sort of follow-up to the blurry picture of SOnic, Rockman, and Mario, that was doing the rounds last week!

If you didnt see it, its very blurred, so you cant make them out. but apparently it sort of resembles the PS2 logo???

Then there was a de-blurred version that went around. Showing that is was in fact Sonic, Rockman, and Mario.

Anyway, point is, its supposed to be a teaser, showing that Nintendo have bought/acquired Sega and Capcom. With the added teaser of hinting at the Playstation thing as well!

HOLY SH~I~T!!! OMG!!! Talk about dropping the bomb or raining on a parade!

If this is true, then it'll rock the foundations of home entertaiment and most likely cause the Sony gaming empire to collapse!

It's like Nintendo was secretly using Sony to gain profits for itself, and if/when things got bad for Nintendo, they could pull a string and walk away with millions on console and games sales and making Nintendo the only real rival to Microsoft!

Like the CEO of Nintendo walks into a press conference with the Sony CEO, pulls down his pants and shows the world that he's wearing Mario and Donkey Kong underwear (meaning that it belongs to Nintendo) and walk away with Sony's underwear all the while smiling at the massive profits that the Playstation (the underwear) had made over the years!

And the shoddy release of the PS2 during debut, when Sony purposely didn't produce or release enough units to meet demands THEN charging them for $800 isn't a "dirty tactic"?

Before Sony decided to bring their CD unit (that was supposed to be for Nintendo) into the market, they should have made sure that all loopholes in their contracts with the big "N" were all covered. If they left something this silly in their contracts, they deserve to get screwed. Business is business... and both Sony & Nintendo are notorious for shady business deals...

Frankly, I would love to see this blow up in court. It would be rather funny.

Well, the PlayStation was originally supposed to be a Nintendo product.

Nintendo was in talks with Sony to produce a CD-ROM unit for the SNES to be called the PlayStation. Sony was not supposed to reveal anything to the public, but they did anyways at a game show in Japan. This (obviously) pissed Nintendo off, especially since the plans weren't even finalized. Nintendo then decided to make a deal with Philips instead, in retribution. Nintendo evetually cancelled the project, but Sony still wanted into the console business, and the PSX was born.

Nintendo broke the contract by announcing the SNES CD attachment would be made by Matashiwa (panasonic), and thus killed the Sony deal/contract whatever. Nintendo never registered the trademark Playstation, nor anything else.

It'd never go through, just kinda sad for a company to try and pull this shit off just cause they're in 3rd place and their marquee game (Metroid) isn't selling as well as they hoped...

Why?
Well, even if all the rumours are false, including the Sega/Capcom buy-outs etc, Nintendo have actually managed to make people talk about them again!
That cannot be a bad move, when They've not done anything really big in the xmas run-up. And dont forget Microsoft have just added two free games to the price of a X-Box in the UK, and launched the live service.
But what are people talking about?

What really would be a dumb move for them, would be if their 'Megaton' anouncement, turned out to be a damp squib!

One thing is for sure!
Whatever Nintendo's Megaton anouncement is, its gonna have to be F***ING HUGE, to not be a disapointment, after the level of rumours that have done the rounds!

Do you think Nintendo are stupid enough to allow all this hype and not have a killer anouncement up their sleeves to stun their critics into silence?

That would be almost as bad as the pre-release bull-shit claims that surrounded the PS2!

I'm not sure about the Playstation business!
It may just be that Nintendo are trying to remind everyone that they were the brains behind the idea in the first place, or it could all be lies!

I do think that they've acquired a BIG company though.
I'm hoping its Sega. But Capcom or Namco would do.
Two out of three would be better.

-Sega annouced that they would start making multi-platform games and bringinig some already-exclusive games to other platforms

-Namco won't stop supporting Sony ............ don't ask me why

-Capcom ? this maybe true (specially after the annoucement of the 5 games) but there are still many games which need to be released on PS2/Xbox like megaman X7 , red dead revoler , DMC2 , capcom fighting all-star ............. etc.

-if that playstation story really happened , nintendo better forget about all square games for GC/GBA

-nintendo already made some big annoucement with it's first party titles and resident evil stuff
