BBH hi-score in ST1-29 500 000 point and his hi-scores 14 000 000 in ST2 are imposible for me !!! I play ST1 on lv4 and kill every enemy with close attack for a diamont(30 000 points) and can hardly go to 18 500 000 points. The version of the game is arcade and u have to go about 6-7 stages. You can choose 2 times your way (mountain, jungle or sea).I personaly take the sea way 2 times(there is a lot folks to kill=more points!)In ST2 my hi-score is near 10 000 000 and 14 000 000 BBH"s hi-score isnt too big and imposible if he kill 4 points every soldier in the sea stage and take the gold right(u know wat i mean...)

Finally, somebody that's interested in high scores on these games.

Okay. First of all, you said you take the "Sea" route for both halves... I assume you mean Valley. Valley is good for the 2nd half, but for the first, Jungle is WAY better. On the first three stages of Jungle alone, it's possible to get 13 or 14 million. And more importantly, when you switch routes from Jungle to Valley, you can earn an extra 1.7 million or so on the Train stage. So you're already missing out on a million and a half points by picking the same route twice. The train stage only appears when you switch routes, and trust me - I have tested every route in this game point-wise, and Jungle is definitely best for the first three. Then after the switch, take Valley for the next two.

Now, what you're probably wondering is... where does the extra 10 million come from? For a long time I played the game, and my scores were consistently in the 18 to 19 million-point range. Then I found something out. If you wait around in certain areas, more enemies come out! Next time you play, pick Jungle as the first route (like I recommended above). After the first four soldiers drop down and the other two soldiers are surprised, you will see one working on a tank. When you reach this point, don't move forward! Just sit there for a couple seconds. About 5 or 6 soldiers will come in from the top of the screen. Now this is where things get tough - you have to figure out which areas in each level are the best parts to wait in (I call it "stalling"). A lot of it is trial and error, figuring out which areas are the best to wait around in. Believe it or not, I use the timer to the maximum on every level except the last one, sitting around waiting for more enemies!

Hmm... that might have been kinda confusing. It's hard to explain how exactly this works without seeing it in action. I'd mention emulators, but people around here get really uptight about that...

Shock Troopers 2nd Squad is pretty straightforward, yes. I hope you're taking the Naval Base/City route and not the Air Base/Train route. As for where the extra points come on that... well, like you said, as many close-range attacks as possible, although it's a lot riskier in this game. And of course, picking up the Gold for the 19990 bonus. On the "stats" at the end I usually have over 300 close-range attacks and over 100 of the 19990 Bonuses.

For squeezing out points... well, I hope you try to kill all the soldiers that come out of the truck at the end of Mission 1, and letting the first part blow up on its own. There's nearly 2 million points to be had there. Also, there's a part near the end on Mission 5 where an infinite amount of soldiers come out (albeit very slowly), and they can easily be dispatched with close-range attacks. You can spend a lot of time there building up points. It's pretty much the only area in the game where you can "stall" and leech points, but it doesn't work that well. Still, every little bit counts.

If you have any more questions, feel free to post! I love talking about this game, and have always wanted to share my "tricks of the trade" to someone who's interested in getting 20-million+ scores.

Hi,BBH and tank you for the quickly and fully answer of my question.I knew about the jungle and valley combination before and i have tried it many times. The waiting tactic is old and i allready know it, but tank you for your posting. The problem in jungle first route is that the soldiers there are hard to close-range kill(they run backward and shoot simultantly).About the train stage (transfer betwene routes stage)-you are right.i have worked of a way to make more points with a my own tactic <close-shoot and close-slise> tactic. There is it: you must play with fast moving character(Milky,Jackal...),when the enemy is close to you hold down shoot buton ,get him stunned on your fire and move forward shooting to slice him and get diamond! The other topic i will to discus with u are the hidden rooms and ways.I know about 2 of them on the Valey stage (I m valley specialist ).The first is in the 2route first stage the sewers. The place is on brige barricade with 2 tanks on it and 2 barels with weapons inside. You must go slowly forward ,when you see the place go to right on hold the direction.I dont remember if you must destroy the bridge. The second hidden place is the before final stage in the town streets area. There is a long way forwards, and then u reach a place with a right way change (u get a buster weapons right before).Now-there is a garrage door and 3 boxes with weapons before it .Crush the door and stay close facing opened doorway.Wait a little and done! There is a surprise in this stage but i will let you discover it alone if u dont knew it.At the final please excuse my englich, but i m from Bulagaria and dont use it to much here .I like to talk with you about ST1 to ,becouse it is very good game and i love it.So tanks again and see you again friend!

Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but your "tips" arent new to me either.

For the guys that move forward but then back up when you're in range for a close attack (like all the ones on Jungle stage 1), what you have to do is roll right after they back away. Once they back up they're commited to firing a shot, so they can't move again right after. Once you get the timing down for this, getting close-range kills on them is a lot easier. (as long as no other enemies are around...)

The multiple-shot + close-range kill IS important for points too, yes. But it should not be used all the time. I've found that there are specific enemies that always drop down after the first shot, and so you can't get the "combo" kill. At first I thought it was random but I think it's predetermined. Also, most (not all) green soldiers only award 500 or 1000 points for each "shot" you get on them. Meaning if you get a dozen shots in a row on them, you might only get 6000 points. With them it's not worth risking the points you'd get from a close-range kill, so just stab them as usual and hope for a 30k diamond. The white soldiers are worth 3k per shot, so they're worth doing multi-shots on. And then the purple ones... they give 6k per shot! So shoot them once, stop, then start pumping them with lead... getting 10 shots on them plus a close-range kill can be worth up to 100,000 points! (6k * 10 + 12k + 30k. The 12k is the close-range kill, as all close-range kills are worth double the points you'd get from shooting them normally)

Regarding the "alternate" routes on Valley. On Valley 4, it is definitely *NOT* worth taking the "side" route to the right when you get to the bridge with the tanks. The top route has all those diamonds, plus a ton of purple soldiers that appear later (remember, they're worth a lot of points on multi-shot kills). The hidden "base" area on Valley 5 is good for one reason - the clawed guys that appear at the end, since you can get two first-aid kits from getting close-range kills on them. The "regular" route seems better, there are quite a few soldiers to kill and there's a bomb pickup. Also, when you get to the human boss, extra soldiers come out to attack you every now and then, which lets you squeeze some more 30k diamonds out of the route. Strangely, they don't appear if you take the "hidden" base route.

Good luck!
