NCS confirming preorders for Sengoku 3

In case anyone was still nervous, I just received an email from NCS regarding Sengoku 3.

Here's what they sent me:

Dear NCS Customer,

We are confirming pre-orders for the following item today:

NEO GEO Sengoku 3 JAPAN Home Cartridge US$268.00

This cartridge will arrive on October 25 and you may confirm your pre-order by replying to this message and specify your shipping preference. You must already be an NCS customer to confirm in this manner and we will ship the game automatically for you on Wednesday.

If you have never ordered from NCS before and need to set up an account, please visit our online store to place your order at http://hh141.hiphip.com. Sengoku 3 JAPAN is listed under the "Neo Geo | Sengoku 3 Order" section of the store.

We are unable to supply the USA version of Sengoku 3 since we were not allowed to change our original pre-order for the Japanese version from SNK. You may read a more in-depth explanation on our website update that will be posted later this morning.

Whoo-hoo!! While it's disappointing that they weren't able to secure the English version, it's great to see that they're still planning on getting this at all (there seemed to be some question in some people's minds after all the news on SNK's financial situation).

I never played Sengoku, is it any good? I may dowload the rom and if it's good I may pick it up for MVS. Any suggestions on which is the best?

It's encrypted. If it even makes it to the ROM boards, it will be quite some time (like years). I understand the "play before pay" concept in buying such expensive games, but I sincerely hope it is a LOOOOOOOOONG time before this game gets emulated. There are stocks to sell through of both MVS and NGH carts that people like NCS and the NeoStore should not be punished for having.

And here's what the NCS website has to say about why they're only getting the Japanese copy:

Pre-order confirmations went out this morning for the Japanese Neo Geo home cartridge version of Sengoku 3. We expect delivery on Wednesday morning and all pre-orders will ship on that day.
Unfortunately, NCS is unable to offer the USA version of this game. We were not allowed to change our pre-order quantity for the Japanese Sengoku 3, which we originally submitted about 2 months ago (about 1 month before the USA version was confirmed). This quantity helps SNK determine production numbers. For us to cut our pre-order quantities at a late stage would affect how our numbers are viewed in the future. I.e, the view would be that a pre-order from NCS isn't really be a serious pre-order and thus not acceptable for any future productions of SNK products. This also applies to other products from various manufacturers and publishers. To avoid this problem of staining our repute, we have committed to purchasing our entire pre-order quantity of the Japanese Sengoku 3 game. Since there is obvious risk in any venture, we don't want to take on any additional risk with the USA version of Sengoku 3. Capital requirements for any Neo Geo game are hefty, especially with the numbers we will import this week. Thank you.

To my mind, this looks to confirm that the English release IS an official SNK product - it's just that NCS's preorders went in too early for them to change it.

Hopefully this will ease the minds of any of those who still had lingering doubts...

I can still get the ROM's for part 1 and 2. I just want to see if I like the gameplay at all.

yo my brother yes we're mostly aware of the JPN but this is a side-scroller action game and its not that hard to figure the basic game controls in niponggo language in the manuals on the JPN version. its pretty straight forward. for a collectors stand-point the artwork on the JPN versions are not necessarily cut-up or lacking or even ommitted compared to the US version sometimes. and a bit cheaper than the us version offered in this site. <IMG SRC="smilies/tongue.gif" border="0">

I can read the Japanese writing. Yes, the english art is sweet, but the Japanese carts tend to be far more artisic.
