Well it seems official by an email someone got from SNK about this, their liquidating all their stuff, and closing up shop.

It's over.

Let's see who get's their characters, or if Aruze just keeps them all to use on Pachinko theme machines...

I love you SNK. I hope your characters do not become bastardized pachislot whores for the rest of their trademark viability.

Viva la Marco!

Yeah let's just hope that a good successor will continue the SNK trademark where it left off. But still it's really sad that SNK is out. I still believe that SNK will surely come back later in the future and make a miracle return.

I wish Capcom would just start making AES carts and new games featuring the beloved SNK characters!

Nightmare Match Revival: King of Pachinko 2002 o_O

Why couldn't they have at least brought out SS5 (or whatever they call it in Japan; interestingly, none of the Samurai Spirits games in Japan for AES/MVS had a number in the title*)? I feel lousy for not getting a NG sooner, but I didn't have the $$

*Samurai Shodown --> Samurai Spirits
Samurai Shodown II --> Shin Samurai Spirits
Samurai Shodown III --> Samurai Spirits: Zankuro Musouden
Samurai Shodown IV --> Samurai Spirits: Amakusa Kohrin (Amakusa's Revenge, apparently).

I just hope they give the rights to somebody else, like Sega or even (shields up) Capcom. Anything would be better than having the characters just disappear or wind up in pachinko games. (interestingly enough, I remember reading about a pachinko fighting game for Super Famicon in Japan; whatever you got determined the technique your character used--it was a Banpresto game, so it had Gundam, Kamen Rider and Ultraman characters).

Though SNK may be gone, it will still live on (as another company? owned by another company? characters licensed by another company? I honestly can't say for sure).

My question is: what's going to happen to the artists who provided the killer artwork for many of the games throughout the years (especially Shinkirou, who did the photo-realistic illustrations for countless SNK games)? I hope they find a new line of work soon...

Last time I heard Shinkirou is working with Capcom.

I really want to see Samurai Spirits V and many other SNK games that were going to miss out on for quite a long time.

*WHEW!* Thank goodness! At least his job is safe. I can't wait to see his renditions of Capcom's characters. But, I'll miss his work at SNK the most. Best of luck to you, Shinkirou!

Now, if I only knew what became of the rest of SNK's artists stable (Eiji Shiroi, Kita Senri, Hiroaki, Tonko, etc.)?

if SNK has to sell his chars to any one then sell them to Eolith(KoF2K1 looks ok). But personally i think that Sammy(GGX) they look like they could do a great job with the SNK franshises but they had to get a new artist because theires sucks

That's the problem, so many of SNK's "fans" are ROM-downloading weasels, who think putting up a Geocities site with two ripped sprites, a fanart section, and links to a shady ROM download site actually counts as "support." You know the kind. The ones who say "Long live the NeoGeo," then ask "Where can I download ROMs" in the next sentence. I had shouting matches with the little @$*&!?&$#!!!!'s on message boards and newsgroups for years. Fat lot of good that did.

Again, I don't know the exact circumstances behind the "acquisition" by Aruze, or the company's bankruptcy proceedings (though I wouldn't be surprised if something sketchy went on over there), but in the end, SNK filed for bankruptcy, requested a "turnaround judgement" from the courts (which apparently gives bankrupt companies a second chance), and that was revoked. All of SNK's fans should've put their money where their mouths were. Most of the -real- ones did. (Buying games at $270-300 a pop is tough for anyone, I admit. It sure wasn't easy for me.) The rest of the "fans" didn't.

Sure. Give me a shovel, Krauser.

I wonder if Capcom could take in the SNK teams... even though their future product wouldn't bear the SNK name, it'd still be the same team. With Shinkiro is there, it'd be nice to have the other artists follow suit. If they join up with Capcom, then they could use Naomi hardware.
