The end is here

Since the filing for civil reorganization in the court of Osaka on April 2, 2001, SNK has been trying to restore and reorganise the company but has just announced that this is not possible and that the company will be wound up and liquidated.

Just recently the Osaka court ruled that it has revoked the SNK application for reorganisation and will adjudicate SNK bankrupt by the end of this month. SNK has not announced any successor to take over any company operations at this time.

The long awaited "The King of Fighters 2001" will still be released at the end of November, but it is unclear who will be marketing the sales for international customers. Just recently SNK released "Zupapa" and had another 4-6 titles scheduled for release over the next 6 months. It is also unclear whether these titles will still be released.

SNK has been an industry icon for over 23 years, beginning in Japan in 1978 and has released hundreds of titles and enabled operators to operate low cost and steady games for many years. It is with regret we write this story and saddened to hear that all our friends at SNK have lost their job.

I'm just glad XBOX can't destroy everything that preceeded their arrival!
I'm forced to come in contact with their product on my CPU but I'm not forced to go out and purchase that hunk of SH86T they're marketing!

I guess this means we won't see Garou: MOTW 2 or Metal Slug 4 anytime soon (or possibly ever). At least King of Fighters 2001 will still be released in arcades in Japan (but will we still see it over in the states?). It's a sad day for SNK fans the world over. The question now is: will Eolith pick up any of SNK's other properties?

If this report is true (I'm still waiting for MMCafe to respond), it looks like the future of Neo-Geo ends today.

Even if SNK goes under can't Aruze just release their games since they own SNK?

Tis a very sad depressing day... SNK yours sure is a glorious legacy. More than a decade of Neo Geo and awesome software will always be remembered...

One would wonder what would happen to the intellectual properties/franchise of SNK??? Will Aruze the parent company take that over and continue on developing the SNK games but maybe on diff mediums (naomi, PS2, carp-BOX, or lame-CUBE)??? Somebody, any hot-shots developers out there can rise to the occation, buy the license and continue development of Samurai Shodown 5 or sumpin???

SNK is great!!!

Wow... what do you say to something like this?

I mean... we've all known that the Neo couldn't keep coming out with new titles forever, and with the bad news that's been coming out of SNK Japan recently, things didn't look so good.

But to actually get possible confirmation on what we've all been fearing...

I only hope this turns out to be a big mistake/misunderstanding, or that in someway Aruze can keep the SNK properties alive and well.

And I'm really dreading what's going to happen to the home cart/CD market. I can see the price gouging already...
