Mai's Famous 'Bounciness'

Hey there fellow SNK lovers and Neo-Geo worshippers. I decided to stop by in between scheduled doses of Capcom versus SNK on my Sega Dreamcast to inform you that Mai has never looked so good before. She is truly captivating on the DC platform. She sports some cool color options for her outfit, her animation is smooth and loaded with bounciness and jiggling. On top of that there are times when she unleashes a powerful kick towards the air and her entire rear end is viewable except for that tiny part covered by the g-string she has on...
If this is making you want to play a Neo cart featuring her as a character I highly recommend you refrain from doing so and purchase a Dreamcast and Capcom vs SNK immediately. Like I mentioned earlier, Mai never looked this good before!

Personally I think exactly the opposite. I think Mai looks horrible in Capcom vs SNK. The cartoony artwork used for her makes Mai look very bland (all that skin colour), just plain ugly, and because of the drab colours, I virtually don't even notice the bounce. Well I only play in the arcade but I can't imagine the Dreamcast version being anything different in that respect.

Comparing Main in CvS to a KoF incarnation, the KoF Mai looks real as per the art style, but she is so much more defined in every way such that people can notice the character she really is, and the bounce shows up far better on a nicely shaded character, rather than someone who looks like they were coloured with pastels. I do rather like Capcom artwork mind you, just not what happens when it crosses paths with Mai.

I agree with Neo Bomber Man on this one. Mai does not look anywhere near as good on the DC in CvS. Her artwork is indeed very "cartoony" making her character seem very flat.

Well fine, I guess I am alone on this one. But I do stand by what I said. Neo-Geo is cool and has some outstanding graphics but it is an 'ancient' system and I simply have moved on to what I consider to be a superior system. I didn't trash my Neo, but I don't use it like I did before. Nam-1975 is currently the title I play when I use it...
Anyway, I can notice the bounciness and she certainly is not FLAT in her appearance. Period.

Mai herself no, of course not, but her artwork yes. That's the real problem with Capcom's style of character graphics in fighters: If they get it wrong, the character ends up looking paper thin, like a cardboard cut-out. If they get it right, they thankfully avoid that and create a nice-looking sprite.

This may be a little off topic, but it DOES refer to Mai...

I remember being at an arcade a couple of years ago in Boston playing KOF '94 (for old time's sake) with some friends. One guy chose the girls team, and as usual we were making lots of loud noise as we played the game.

ANYHOO... to make a long story short... while I was using my Chin against his Mai (bounciness and all), some little kid came by with his mom to see what was going on, looked at the screen and say, "WOW!!!!"

The mom, looking at the screen, quickly covered the kid's eyes and walked him away from the machine...

I don't think my friends and I ever laughed so hard in our lives.

Pretty cool story man. What a wicked, wicked mother to blind her young child's eyes from seeing the glory that is Mai. But what a smart little guy to recognize true beauty when he sees it.
