Create a very specific virus that remains dorment on all conditions except for those with emulators and roms.

If the virus doesn't attack the main populous (say microsoft office users) then it may not be important enough to fix.

Also, the virus can possibly be attached to roms themselves and uploaded to places like mame.dk to spread quicker.

Believe or not I've thought about that before, never posted anything though. But why a virus? Just a piece of code that remains dormant until emulated then cripples the host system is sufficient, I would think that to be safe you would not want it to propagate itself in any case (ergo not a virus).

You know, that wouldn't work, I have all my AES carts on my puter and I use emu's to try new games out that I'm thinking of buying.
But it'd nevertheless be kickass if all rom-lamerz would have their puters screwed, though <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

an office macro that searches for rom files and if it finds them, the hard drive is formatted.

subliminal messages aired during popular tv shows to brainwash people into actually buying SNK merchandise...

Wow d00d! You mean a virus like that 1 that looked for all C/C++ source code in an infected person's HD then deleted it?

There has been no more C/C++ programming in the whole world even since!

Duh! <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

you need more than a virus. You need an exorcism.

Yeah well something like that wouldn't be to hard to make for the Windows version of emu's. There are enough security holes in windows that they should call it cheesedows instead. And really does two wrongs make a right?

How 'bout an OLE triggered virus that detects emu's id's? Not that hard to think of now was it? Making it is something completely different.
How come btw that you're all over threads that either contain 'ROMZ' or 'emu' in their topic-names? <IMG SRC="smilies/smirk.gif" border="0">

wouldn't really work. You'd have to have it be active on the system on every boot, and it would have to be triggered by an emulator running, so if they changed the executables name then you're screwed. And well as soon as it was dicovered there would be like 500 different fixes for it and it would be stopped. And that doesn't stop Mac users ( <IMG SRC="smilies/glee.gif" border="0"> ) or Linux/Unix useres (also <IMG SRC="smilies/glee.gif" border="0"> ).

Sorry man, ain't killing it that easily!

Peace

Actually I have a better idea on how it could be done but just forgive me for not sharing it with y'all ok? <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Even if it would be miraculously possible to do such a virus, which is not, creating/distributing such offensive software is worse than illigal copies of ROM images (imo). And what is wrong with emus ? :-/

Here's a mathematical formula for you:

Left = opposite of right
Wrong = opposite of right
therefore
Left = Wrong
Three lefts = One right
therefore
Three wrongs make a right <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Hating emus is one thing, but trying to impose that hatred on everyone else? <IMG SRC="smilies/shame.gif" border="0">

Yes, but when you see that It can damage some companies selling, it must be stopped. WHy buying a dreamcast game, you can find it on the web?
How would manage that if you were the SEGA boss?

Got nothing against you guys cracking down on ROM sales, but I'm not going to destroy someone's computer for having them. Or maybe I'm just lazy.

I won't to. Computer are too expensive for that!
But a great protection in order to be able to control the roms production would be great.
I don't know why but if you want that small companies still produce games, that's the only solution.

Engineering, actually. But I did study logic sophomore year (as it pertains to electrical circuits, anyway <IMG SRC="smilies/tongue.gif" border="0">)
