I have the chance to pick up Neo Bomberman on MVS but it's a bootleg cart, so of course, prior to plunking down my cash, I would appreciate hearing any complaints or potential problems with bootlegged MVS cartridges in general or if at all possible, about this one. I really have no idea why they may or may not be unwise purchases so any feedback is quite welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Neo BomberMan

Most bootle mvs carts are as good as the "real thing",99% of the time, its funny though, the only bootleg cart I had problems with was a bootleg Neo bomber man.
Got it from Cosmic in Hong Kong,$70 too.Was told it had no sound, but when put it on, sound was okay, but the game had corrupted graphics then it started to burn!.bitch nearly blew up my mvs one slot.
Opened it up and it was a mess of wire and soldering.
But this was an extreme case , it dont really make much difference bootleg or not

We had one that I believe was responsible for the destruction of a one-slot board (I am basing this on the fact that after the cart itself burned and turned into a lump of slag when the board was powered up, that board no longer worked).

Sorry, I hit the back key instead of letting it finish, and it wound up double posting.

Well The only thing I know about bootlegs (and I have ended up with 3 over the years) is that over time the Proms will lose thier data and cause problems (sound gliches graphic problems ect.). I can say that out of the bootlegs I have ended up with all have some sort of problem. it may be a small line that appears on some stages or a loud crackling when one part of the sound is played. I would avoid them at all cost if possible. Oh and by the way, 2 of them I bought from cosmico, the other was from mullins who probably bought it from cosmicco.

I like to note this is out of the 30 carts I have bought from cosmicco, so I guess aroung 10% are bootleged. mostly older carts.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm still debating over what to do, though I'm leaning towards looking for a real one. The one I was after does not come from Cosmico, but Hong Kong all the same. I've had an urge to toast some kind of circuit board for a long time, though given the money involved I think I'll hold off on that.

Actually, Neo BomberMan was never officially released on MVS, was it?, although I do recall seeing Panic Bomber listed as an official home cartridge back in 1994/1995. Was it being planned?

Thanks again for the info.

So how do you know when you have a bootleg cart in your hand. I have some 20 odd MVS carts, and out of them I know one of my Puzzle Bobble carts is not real (the board has no SNK logos on it what so ever). But the only reason I even thought to check was because this particular board had horrible sound glitches. I opened the cart up to clean it real good and saw that it was a generic board. I noticed that the bomberman board had SNK logos on it, like a home to MVS conversion... is that when the wiring comes into play. I had a Metal Slug 2 cart I got from Video Connections a while back that had a single wire on it... I thought some one had repaired it, but now I am thinking that it was a Mod... this is very interesting indeed since it too was returned to VC for a sound problem as well. Any more info on how to spot a bootleg would be greatly appreciated... I think I will then spend the weekend opening all of my games

Well actually more of that batch I have could be bootlegged. I never have taken the time to open them all up. I just know the ones I am having trouble with are. You can usally tell because they have flashroms in them instead of real roms. or they have problems like what you described. Some mvs carts have clear cases and you can see it through the cases also.
