Man I hope these pictures stay up long enough for everyone to see. This is my joystick design. I plan on building it in May. I'll post pictures up as soon as its done. The buttons are laid out to be at your finger tips. The top four buttons are buttons one through four and will be used for neo geo games. The bottom two are buttons 5 & 6 for capcom games. I'm gonna wire my sticks for my super nova, but I've found the wiring diagram for the control ports to Neo Geo mother boards and I could also wire a cable for that as well. The base will open and you can disconnect and rearrange the button configuration via quick disconnect terminals to suit your every need. I've aslo got some sticker designs that would go on the front of the cartridge so when you open the box you'll see whats in it if you dont have an insert yet. Let me know what you think. I hope these images show up correct.

just get rid of the bottom 2...i know it would be nice to be able to say like well you wil be able to play capcom games onm it as well..but that would just not be comfertable chaining moves ect on something of that nature....just get rid of the botom 2 and it should be cool.

This is a interesting response. I must admit I am terrible at performing special moves and that I designed the layout for the most comfortable hand position I could think of. However, I would love to hear feedback on every ones ideas of the best universal button layout. I currently have a mas systems joystick and it has the 6 button layout. 3 on top 3 on bottom and in straight rows. This button pattern is most uncomfortable and it sucks on neo geo 4 button games. This is why I want to build my own joystick.

i know what your saying...basicly imo its one way or the other.....and since your a neo guy i would suggest just keeping 4 buttons....if you were capcom i would say do the 6 button lay out....again though yeah i guess other people will having differnt ideas but there is just no way you could play like that it would seem..no granted you can change say the buttons in options perhaps but even so lets say they were at default well you have the bottom 2 as 5 and 6 which i would assume would be fierce and roundhouse....so basicly say i jump in roundhouse ducking mk, hadoken.(qcf+p) well i gotta move my hand to 6 then hit 2 then hit 5....thats not gonna be comfertable........i like it though(that is not including the the bottom 2 buttons ;) :p i gotta go to work in a bit though so i cant commment more... also is the joy stick a 4 way joy stick 8 way 360 ect?????

Personally, I'd place three buttons above the four you have lined up; left justified. That leaves room for Capcom's six button layout and SNK's four button layout.

Honestly Im making the joystick to play Neo Geo games mostly and the top for buttons are almost exactly like most MVS cabs with the exception that they are curved a little more to better fit your hand. Im not to familiar with capcoms arcade button layout so I would learn from my button layout so it wouldnt be as difficult as say someone who has mastered the streetfighter button layout. Im trying to make a button layout that has six buttons and that will allow you to not have to move your hand to reach buttons. As far as the joystick, I would be using the Happs Super Joystick because it most mimicks the feel of the Neo Geo Home Stick. The buttons would be compitition buttons similar to the ones used in the Candy cabs.

Here's my ideal layout, I didn't take the time to give ya a proper illustration but you should be able to tell where I'm going even though I just threw it together.

It's almost like a standard 6 button with the bottom row shifted. It keeps the standard MVS layout, but it'll play like Street Fighter with little adjustment, also it'd be pretty good for MK2 (Blue = HP, Green = Block, Yellow = HK....).

Nice stickers, by the way. You should .pdf them and upload them. I'm leaning away from the .eps, just too many people have problems with it and Acrobat is too easy to get to pass up.

As soon as I get enough done I will probably turn the stickers over to Kazuya or Big Bear for download. I'll aslo make a template for those who want to make their own.

You guys use freaky button layouts. My personal configuration is like this:

For Capcom

XYZ
ABC

For Neo*Geo

ACX
BDX
(kof configuration)
or

ABX
CDX
(everything else configuration)

This is all on the same stick, BTW.

I keep missing out on the pics! I can't wait until I get my space probs resoloved!! :-D

Uhh,I am a purist. Standard MVS 4 button layout..
90 degree or so angle for the 1st button and three across. Start and Select button above like MAS and a small Pause Button on the side panel.

How bout a joystick with button configs that you could quickly disconnect and replace with another to suit any players prefered button layout. <img src="graemlins/smirk.gif" border="0" alt="[Smirk]" />

I'd use the Capcom button layout, but with an extra button #4 to the right of the top row for use as D.

1-2-3-4
4-5-6

I've got 2 controllers that I designed and made myself. Two of the controllers are the 4-button layout (not standard Neo-Geo order), and the other two have a 7-button lay-out (like an all-purpose controller). I'd post pictures, but I lost my host. If anyone wants to host them for me so people can check them out, let me know.

THE ONLY button configuration I would consider if looking for a good SNK/Capcom layout would be the following:

XYZ
ABCD

The standard Neo ABCD layout, perhaps slightly arced as on a true Neo cab. The XYZ buttons ABOVE (must be above) would be aligned just as the ABC and would be used as the punches in any Capcom game (ABC would be the kicks). I'm not sure if this would require opening up your enclosure and switching a few connectors whenever you change formats, but it would be worth it.

In addition to that, I would wire up a 1P start, select and credit button. I'm not sure I like the color scheme either. I would go with a solid black enclosure, black stick and either white or red buttons. Depending on how good you are with an airbrush I would toss around some ideas regarding some kickass Neo/Capcom art on the enlosures themselves.

Labels look good. I prefer a cool looking template over a bunch of unique looking labels though. If you do the labels you should do the carts as well. I had an awesome customized label/cart/cab paint scheme planned out awhile ago but I have sinced dumped all my Neo items for the time being, but your artistic abilities are better than mine so you could come up with something better.

Are those joystick pics actual 3D models you made?

Yeah, you'd have to change the wiring on the inside then, because the ABC on a Neo is the Punches for Capcom. In my opinion, that's too much trouble. But that's because I'd rather have plug-n-play as fast as possible. Practical over looking the best.

The joysticks I made in Adobe illustrator. I figure that if you want something like SNK across it for graphics or any kind of graphics then you could go down to your local vinyl shop and have them cut you up some out of vinyl stickers and then apply them to the controller after you've painted the base color and then clear coat it for a smooth glossy finish. I'll probably paint mine either red with black buttons, black with red buttons, or maybe black with black buttons. I may have some gold SNK logos to ad on later. The total cost will be around 110 for two of them and 55 to 60 for one. Thats way cheaper than MAS systems at 99 a piece.

BTW can anyone show me the CAPCOM button layout?

Thanks
