Has anyone played Metal Slug 4?

Someone told me that Metal Slug 4 is already in the arcades in the eastern part of the world (Japan, etc.) If so, I just want to know if it is any good? I don't know about anybody else, but I need to see more or hear more about this game before I spend another $300, especially since it is being made by a new company (I think? Right?).

Yes, its already been out in Asia for around 2 weeks.
What do you like to know?
I play until stage 4, reminds me of Sengoku 3>repeated enemies.
Keep shooting at Tanks and soldiers.(wheres the Aliens?)
Bascially everything has been reuse(Recycle) except for the static background.(Looks like wallpaper, hardly any movement, very dull too.... Guessed they can't reuse the same background.) :(
Zombies is still around in stage 4.> House of the dead.
So far I only see a new item> the double 2H.
2 machine guns shooting at the same time, very cool.
Not really worth $300 compare to Metal Slug 3.
This is what happen when license to sub contractors to do the job.

Static backgrounds?! That is terrible... The main thing I liked about the Metal Slug series was the alive backgrounds and smooth animation... I mean, it is not the most original concept, but it had a personality all its own. If 4 is just a souless shooter, then I will pass.

My favorite MS is Metal Slug X.... and I guess it will be my favorite one more year..

The idea of cyborg-enemies is cool but... maybe it's just me but I think it will be quite boring... In fact MS3 was quite boring when you played 8 times on the arcade...
That's why I prefer MSX. It's always fresh!

Ever notice how MS BG's get worse with every subsequent game? It's like they're running out of ideas.

Boring? My god, what excites you! I have Metal Slug 3, and I've beaten it 10 times or so. I still play it every day, dont beat it everyday though.

I like it better than X cause it just has so much new stuff. If you consider that boring, thats really strange.

I like the strictly military stylings of MS1 myself. None of that alien/mutant crap for me, thank you.

elephant slug, ostrige slug,
both suck, although I'll admit that I like the drill and the sub.

multiple pathways,
a worthy implement, I'll give you that.

THE LAST LEVEL.......
Too fucking long, they could have easily broken it into 3 easy pieces.

MS3 is my least favorite MS game, but to each his own. MS4 looks promising in the sense that the new vehicles are cool and those goddamned aliens and mutants and shit are all gone.

Thanks to those that have played MS4 for all the feedback. So, far I don't think I will pay $300 for a "recycled" game with static backgrounds. Anyway, I'm sure some people that will buy it now will end up trying to sell it later. Don't get me wrong, I would love to support Shawn and the Neo-Geo community, but not at the expense of a $300 game that sucks.

I've heard from Fran who lives in Italy that Metal Slug 4 is awesome. He has friends over there that go this arcade show and they got to play it. I really believe Fran cause ya know...he's the man, he knows a good game...KoF98 speaks for itself...

I believe the gameplay will be AMAZING, and I don't think the BG's are gonna be "static", I believe they will be nice. Just see it this way, MEGA is wanting to make a name for itself. MS4 is gonna be good. The back grounds will rock. You have to look up.

The more purchases from the Neo-Store, the more likely we are to see future neo-geo releases. English or Japanese.

Thanks,

Bryan

Well that's good news. Fran tends to have good taste. I honestly don't see how they can possibly screw it up though. They'd have to really change things around and scew up to make it bad.

try before saying that. maybe the background are static and the game recycled. why not reuse all that things that made slug series the best series ever made...

long life to metal slug. can't wait to try.

MS always had repeatng enemies.

I liked MS3, but the aliens just didn't fit in.

I already defended this game in another post, but I'll say it again...

Fran's right. Slug 3 is king.

Slug 3 is NOT just a Contra clone...if you think of it that way, then yeah, you might be a bit disappointed...Slug 3 is an action shoot 'em up that owes a definite debt to the Ghouls N Ghosts series..if you think about level layout and the character metamorphoses (not to mention the number of weird bonus items) it WILL make sense.
Plus the music is MILES better than the other three games...

Those of you who long for a new one with a strictly militaristic theme...go and convert Shock Troopers. Slug 3 cannot be beaten.
I have a sickening feeling that Slug 4 will end up being the first major misstep for the series...a trend that may be irreversable now that the TRUE SNK is dead.

Those of you who pray daily only for a new spine to grace your shelves either won't care, or will live in denial singing the praises of this new game no matter how good/bad....

I couldn't agree with you more on both issues. MS3 is king for me, if for no other reason than the fact that it provides the biggest and most exhilarating challenge of all the Slug games. Sometimes I think MS3 takes a brow beating due to nothing other than the fact that it's probably the most difficult title in the Slug series.

And I also fear for the "quality" level of MS4. I can't decide if I should go ahead and plunk down for a pre-order copy or wait for more testimonials concerning how said game actually plays.

The first had a militant theme and it was quite good IMO. I don’t mind diversity, but MS3 was a complete mess. You had aliens, crabs, giant eels, and zombies -- what was the point? It felt like someone just threw a bunch of themes together and called it a sequel.

Been there, done that.

I still think MS4 will blow MS3 out of the water, but I will agree about the BGM's in slug 3. Especially at the beginning in Stage 4 and beginning of Stage 5.
