Southern Hills Golfland to Close it's Doors by year's end

Well, anytime it seems like there is hope for new Neo games to debut in the U.S. something else happens.

To the disappointment of not only Capcom fans, but with SHGL hosting every new NEO GEO release on the official launch date, SNK fans will have to search elsewhere or just have to wait a little longer for new MVS games.

Slated to close on December 31, 2002, Southern Hills Golfland has been the "players" arcade for many years and considered the top arcade for versus competition anywhere in the U.S.

Hopefully there will be an alternative location for players to meet, but at this point, the news has stunned fans and players from across the country.

This news was reported on srk.com.

Damn, I saw you Posting in here and was hoping it was going to be good news, not bad. :( It sucks when a place like that closes down, because these days it will not get replaced.

Dammit Trieu, now where we s'posed to square off next E3? Shit, this is truly bad news. SHGL was a place I enjoyed visiting every year, a solid reminder of what arcades can and should be like.
I know all about the death of arcades, seeing as how every place I used to haunt as a teen is now GONE. Another nail in the coffin of arcade culture.

that really sucks.
The arcade here has got the last few neo games on release, ROTD, and MS4 at least.
so maby, just maby, the arcade here will be kinda like SHGL.
We have a buncha fighting games and stuff, its a nice arcade, and its still in southern Ca, like SHGL.
i havent been there in a little bit, but im hoping they get 2k2.

It looks like what goes around DOES come around.

SHGL had this coming. I just wish SRK.com would sink with it.

I, for one, am very happy about this. I just wish all the games there could go to respectable owners. And I wish that SRK.com wasn't using this as an excuse to give Alex Valle and all those other chattering monkeys an excuse to talk about how great they are again. Hopefully, they will disappear along with this arcade.

Well it looks like they are planning on moving to Camelot if this does happen anyway, so really no loss... it will mean things are in flux for a while though, but I don't really think this is the end,

Interesting... that's not too far from me either. Is it right off the 5?

ALTERNATIVE LOCATION
(it's _okay_ if you need an SNK fix)

Japan Arcade
333 S Alameda St
Los Angeles, CA 90013
(213) 625-1486

(in Little Tokyo, right in the heart of downtown Los Angeles)

It always has the latest KOF (how soon they get it, I can't remember) on a big screen. The arcade has all of its machines set to JPN mode, and has a dozen candy units with other games.

Again, this arcade is a smaller arcade, but is safe. Some of the units need better maitence, but I've seen worse. You may also want to check the College Arcade next to LA City College, there are also a number of other arcades (ucla, some of the hidden arcades in the San Gabriel Valley) that also have or probably would have KoF

Good luck

When I went to Cali last year I checked SHGL out to play some Beatmania IIDX and other fighting games...

It was a great place :D ...I only wish I could go again before it closes down

It's really sad to hear arcades closing...

And there's never any new ones opening...
