Found the following at Cloudchaser.com:

After filing for bankruptcy and dropping the Neo Geo Pocket Color from market, the worst was feared for the future of SNK, a legendary gaming company that introduced the King of Fighters and Metal Slug franchises to us. Well, NO MORE!!

We've received a report that SNK is actually now working on some kind of a comeback to the Western and European markets within the next year, now that they are debt free from filing bankruptcy. With that, a few new projects are being rumored for the Neo Geo MVS and home units, and some NGPC games may be forthcoming as well, although that's not confirmed yet.

A new Capcom Vs. SNK game is rumored to be very well in production for the MVS, as well as a new King of Fighters 2001 game and Samurai Showdown 5. Wow.

We'll have more details on this news as we get it. But if it does ring true, hey, WELCOME BACK, SNK!

All I got to say is that the best things come to those that wait. Now if SNK does bring the pocket back to the US then I think we all need to support them and not wait for "prices to drop". We got to help SNK out so they don't wither up and die (again).

I'd definitely run out and buy NGPC games... so SNK would have my support - especially if they got round to bringing out KOF R3 or MOTM2 <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

One thing though - would it be wise for SNK to spend money on bringing back the NGPC, especially with all the fuss over the GBA?

If its backlit... i would buy it again. i sooo wish i could play my NGPC in the dark without some little light.. if the thing only lasted 20 that would be fine... I would even accept 10 hours if it were backlit, and had the option to turn it off...

I LOVE my NGPC, but I am thinking it would probably be smarter for SNK to release new titles abroad on the GBA. Should new English NGPC titles show up (plastic CLAMSHELL, dammit), I will definitely be in line, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

yeah I agree - although I love my NGPC and would love more games (I was so desperate I even spent a fairly large amount on Faselei recently), I think it would be wiser for them to port some games to the GBA.

I did hear a rumour that AOF1 was sposed to be coming out for it, but it was an unreliable source and I don't believe it... so don't quote me on it <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0"> Would be kinda nice, although I can think of better games to port.

Hey:

I'll believe it when I see it, but if SNK is serious about making a comeback, I think they need to:

1. UPDATE THE FRIGGIN' GRAPHICS ON KOF. I know I will be branded a heretic for saying this, but its time KOF became more like Street Fighter and recieved an animation and overall graphic upgrade with each installment. There is a reason most lamers think that every KOF is the same.

2. I love my NGPC and would love some new games for it, but for SNK to continue supporting it with the unbelievable success of the GBA is insane, and repeating the mistakes of the past. I have no problem with new MVS games, but SNK needs to devise a good multi-platform plan, make some profits, and THEN push their own hardware again. Lets not develop another 37 billion(?) yen debt, eh?

simply put, SNK can NOT try to get the pocket back into retail syores here in the states. it would be dismal. they could have great succes selling the games thrue thier website if they came back. oh, and I would want the games in the clame shell case...PERIOD!
just think of seing these titles on the pocket:

KOF r3
MOTM 2
magician lord
mark of the wolves
and many others

the other thing SNK MUST do is learn how to program for the game boy advance and start releasing titles for it. I would wet my pants upon playing games like the ones listed below on my GBA:

nightmare in the dark
sengoku 3
spinmasters
top hunter
and others.

those games would be PERFECT for the GBA and could be ported flawlesly with ease. the only problem is SNK is not that smart and they probably will not do any of this. the games i listed above that could be ported to the GBA are games which the public does not know about and they would be well recieved in the hand held market. here is to hoping it happens.

You know I have Magical Drop for Gameboy Color. I won it off of ebay. It just shows you that SNK can make ports for the Gameboy. That would be a wise decision. If you can't beat them, join them.

I hope the CvsSNK on mvs is true, I would love to see if SNK's version is better than capcoms, since CvsSNK dissapointed me allot. I hope 2 is better.

An MVS Ryu and Ken would be cool to see as well.

if SNK started making games here
in the US everybody would
have to get the US versions if you
want SNK in the states..
i read some where in a magazine
where one of the guys in SNKUSA
commented how.

- the kids just wanna play the games
its not their fault if they import the
games from japan-

cardboard cases or not.
if they started making games again.
i will get them.
ncs already said they are
buying a huge amount from SNK
when they start reproducing japanese games
later this year
if they started remaking new titles i
would support that too.
god knows i would desert my GBA in a heartbeat
if SNK started making game for the pocket again
they were finally realizing the power of the
thing
if there are any doubts just check out
gals fighters or MS2 or Svc:MotM

Yayy!!! SNK's not dead yet (I knew it all along). The Neo is still going after all these years, how amazing is that??

Things are really looking up, especially if this Metal Slug 3 AES re-release works out... and MOTW going to DC, and re-released Pocket games...

Thank God I'm a Neo*Geo freak! <IMG SRC="smilies/glee.gif" border="0">

I own a NGPC and I think it's great, but there is almost NO chance of seeing it succeed in the US. I've read inmore than one place that only 80,000 units were sold here.
That's practically NOTHING.

A couple more games would be great, but for SNK to try to push the Pocket here would be INSANE, especially in this critical day. SNK's push of the Pocket and the resulting failure was much of the reason for the huge debt!

I think the NGPC would have been more successful if it was actually pushed as a DC device...

Since the DC and NGPC could be connected together to share game data and unlock secrets, SNK should have pushed MUCH HARDER on this. There could have easily been a sequal to the Samurai Shodown RPG that was for the DC, with a totally seperate adventure based on a bunch of side quests for the NGPC. Link the two together, and you uncover more secrets and more quests.

OR, they should have tried to make package deals with DC with certain games and systems. I'm certain most people would have bought a DC/NGPC Capcom vs. SNK package, which would have contained a Dreamcast with a new, sealed copy of Capcom vs. SNK, that also came with a NGPC, link cable and MOTM...

Or, if they wanted to keep the games strictly to SNK and Sega licenses, they could have done special Sonic and/or KOF packages.

At least, this is how I would have approached the NGPC after realizing that it wasn't selling a lot of units on its own. The DC and the NGPC were both going through some hard times on the console wars, so they should have teamed up together for some cross platform and system linkable titles. Both systems would have sold more in the process.

Another Spanish web page has posted the announcement of the possible SNK come back.
All who understand Spanish can read it here: www.meristation.com/noticias/2001/junio/20010621-12.htm (http://www.meristation.com/noticias/2001/junio/20010621-12.htm)

Remember there was the Sonic bundle, but even that wasn't enough to save the Pocket. Has anyone played the NGPC Sonic? It's been awhile since I've played a Sonic game, but I did like Sonic 1 and 2 for Genesis.

I remember the Sonic Bundle...
Actually, right before I actually bought my NGPC, I remember seeing two people playing Sonic on their NGPC linked together on the train. For one brief moment, I thought that SNK would finally start to get some recognition in the US. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

The Sonic bundle was a good idea, but they still treated it as a separate entity and machine. I'm not sure if the NGPC Sonic could be linked to a DC Sonic title for extra gameplay (and vice versa) but that's something that should have been pushed as well.

My idea was to treat the NGPC as a DC device, made by SNK. I think if marketing by both Sega and SNK in the US to push that concept it would have done more and had a better shelf life. The NGPC could have doubled as a DC VMU as well as a game system, which would have been kick ass. Then, you could have sold a $200 bundle system that came with a DC and a NGPC.

An ideal Sonic Package would have been the DC with the Sonic Game, packaged with a NGPC with its Sonic game. With the whole knowlege that the games would have been cross compatible, plus special games exclusive for the NGPC, a bundle like this would have sold easily.

Magical Drop was by Data East, so are you telling me that SNK actually made it (the GameBoy port, that is)? And I believe their KoF GameBoy ports were by Takara, along with some others.
