automatedservices gave me a full refund and then some.

Hey Neo Freaks,

I won Metal Slug 4 from automatedservices via ebay on the June 30th and I finally got it today July 13th via UPS. It looked in good condition and I popped it into my 1 slot motherboard. It would boot up just fine and everything looked good but when I started playing it, the graphics surrounding the charcters and some of the moving vehicles would not come in/blurry and the sound would cut in & out. I then took it apart so I could clean the contacts to see if this would fix the problems and I discovered that the boards where SNK 1994 ones and there were homemade eproms and the inner board had a old move sticker taped to it so it would not come in contact with the upper board. Also, the title sticker is homemade with no serial# and it says Metal Slug 4 made in 2001?!?!?! Fuck!! I should have known something was up with the low price and all. I took it for granted that this was a big time east coast amusement company and everything was on the up & up. I have emailed them and told them the situation and I want my money back. I will call them in the morning and see what can be done. Hopefully things will be worked out and I'll either get a real MS4 or my money back. So, beware, automatedservices may be the next Neotokyobikerkid blow_top I'll let you guys know how things go tomorrow nite. Hopefully I'm not out $175 & stuck with a lame ass game very_ang

There's no way in hell these BOOTLEGGERS are'nt aware of what they sell!! It's too easy to open MVS carts aand know what you have that is why I am very skeptical of sellers that will not confirm authenticity.
I hope everything works out for you..I mean, they even took a long time to get it to you...what did they do?? Make it up like a burger or something once you won the bid??

I think there may be another thread warning about them..that I posted in..I'm not sure..

A friend of mine warned me about them..He also had a boot sold to him by them.

Hmmmmmm,I have a bootleg Aero Fighters 2 that had half of an old move sticker laying on the bottom board so it would not come in contact with the upper board..
I took it out and put tape over the spot where it might touch..
I still have the half of move sticker..I don't know what game it's from...
It really would be crazy if you had the other half...It has a yellow border with characters from a fighting game..
Tomorrow I will look closer to see who the characters are.

I forget who I bought it from but it sounds like their work..It wasn't someone I usually deal with...It's works flawlessly though..

Hah,

No this partial move sticker is also a fighting game with a black boarder. I never seen the 2 charcters on it before. Unlike your copy, this game would play all the way through with many errors as I described annoyed very_ang blow_top

OMG, it was in a white SNKG MVS case! Of course that was a bootleg! As far as I know those carts were used by SNK (notice that SNK didn't exist when MS4 was out) in some sort of rental thing to arcades in the mid 90s. I own 3 of those, Kof 94, FF3 and RBS.
Next time please think twice and ask for advice before buying such a suspicious item, not after getting it.

although im ignorant of the colour coding of mvs casing, I can always tell a boot internally. Uk neo mvs buyers may at some point have ventured over to hanger lane where a significant amount of the UKs amusement distributors are located, indeed I myself used to work for mainland entertainments as a site manager and repairs technician.

I can tell you now that every company on that estate , wether wise to it or not, has boots for sale. I ventured in to R and M automatics a while back to purchase a puzzle bobble and im glad I checked it out internally first as it was boot city!

The guys reply was 'you only want to play the game, dont you?'.

The point I guess im trying to make is that amusement operators dont always care about authenticity as the way they see it is, its going into a cabinet and people are going to play it whatever.

Remember all the boot leg champion edition street fighters from back in the day with their made up titles such as 'black belt edition' and 'rainbow editon'? Ignorant of piracy as I was at the time, I enjoyed so much doing a dragon punch that emitted hundreds of heat seeking ha do kens.

The day I realised then confirmed my suspicouns that there was no such thing as an official board for any of these games was a very sad day for me indeed, but an arcade operator would still say to me 'you paid to play it though, eh?'

I personally think youre more likely to get a boot from an amusement company than a personal seller, unless like mdgames, they blatantly tell you that they dont sell boots (as mike was nice enough to do for me this morning- money puzzle exchnger is a coming my way!), but dont get me wrong, there are exceptions to the rule, most notably that neotokyobastardkid who sells sold as seen.

Just remember, disributors dont always value or regard there boards the way a lot of us would, so ask afore ye buy.

Is automated services a distribution company or a seller with a fancy name? Seawolf dude, I wish you all the best in getting a refund. If its a company, I think they will be anxious to resolve this with you as reputations are easily tarnished over incidents such as this.

ah yes, the auction shows that they are a company and judging by their statement 'this game will be a huge money maker' obviously had been counting on sellit it to an amusement operator where its dirty lack of authenticity would have remained hidden in a cabinet for months.

They obviously didnt count on anyone buying it for private use, but thanks for bringing it to our attention mate, now the purists know to stay away.

I have called them a number of times when I initially won the item on Ebay to find out s&h and payment options. They put me on hold and I while I was waiting it described the many things this company does on the East coast vending for the last 30 yrs. I typed in there phone# on www.google.com and this is what I got:

Why? Most MVS games I have have 2 green pcbs if I remember well. Unless MS4 (never owned one) always comes in some different colors in the board?

Anyway as I said, for me the fact that the case was white with SNKG was more than enough proof that it would be a bloody bootleg.

The "2 green PCB" era is far behind us.

White box could have been swapped, it's not a prrof of bootlegging. PCB colors are.

Yeah, I have Real Bout Special as well and thought it was a bootleg at first, but I've confirmed that it's not.

Anyway, SeaWolf69, hope everything works out. I had seen a few carts on eBay from this seller and thought it was a little fishy. Now I know to stay away from automatedservices.

I was suspicious about automated services as they had some cheap(ish) Matrimelee carts for sale recently, but when I emailed them to ask some details they wouldn't even answer my question via email; I just got a reply saying "ring this number and we will answer your question".

If a seller won't even type out a quick answer to a simple question via email, then I really don't want to do business with them. Thanks for posting this anyway SeaWolf, as now I know for sure not to deal with them. Hope you get your situation sorted out though.

Ok,

I contacted them and they told me that they would give me a full refund + $10 to ship it to them. So, all in all it was a major inconveinace but at least I got to play it I suppose. Definately going to order through MDgames now. They told me they bought it via Ebay 9 months ago and it was in working condition. But they were pretty cool about it and hopefully all will work out well. I'll keep you guys updated when the transaction is completed.

Man, Neotokyobiker kid, do ever give up??? Take a cue from automatedservices and come clean. shame spock

I live right near automatedservices. The name of thier shop is called "The Pinball and Video Game Store". They are a long time supplier and route operator in the area. Since the arcade market is all but dried up, they have moved on to the niche consumer market. In fact they deal mostly with classic games.

I've been to thier store a few times and found them to be very friendly. All thier machines (think about 50+) are set to free play, and you can play as long as you want to.

I've bought a few MVS carts from them, but I was able to see them in person and pick through and find what I wanted.

I can tell you this. They most likely did not know it was a boot. They do not specialize in MVS games, they just have a bunch of them in the shop, along with LOTS of loose PCBs, pinball machines, cabs, ect.

They even have a nice dedicated Samurai Showdown cab.

I think it's entirely possible that they didn't even know bootlegs exist for MVS games. We are all a little paranoid here about boots and sellers and whatnot. Try to keep a cool head and realize that not everyone is as attuned to the MVS market as we are.

Sorry NeoCop2, but original MVS carts were produced in the mid 90's with that white case, I have 3 of them and they are all original. However, being in such a new cart is quite a good sign that it will be a bloody bootleg, unless the (unlikely) case that it was replaced.

NeoCop off.
