King of the monster...wow,great wrestling action!
Super funny to play in 2 players mode and WAY better than the second king of the monster who is a total bad game...

I bought KotM in S Francisco back in 1991...still I play it sometime..

Mortal Kombat is on that list, Street Fighter 2 is not! That is one damn fine list, those guys know their Arcade games. At least there are some people out there who realize it's a better game. KLOV is an awesome site...

I hope you are being sarcastic. Mortal Kombat was never a good game. It's popularity can be attributed to it's use of gore.

This is most unfortunate.

Resevior Dogs? That was a solid film. Mortal Kombat was a piece of shit. Mortal Kombat's significance came about only due to the fact the Street Fighter 2 popularized the fighter. Mortal Kombat added blood to a bad game and made millions. If Mortal Kombat was not all about blood and guts, then the SNES version would have outsold the Genesis one is spades. If Mortal Kombat made that list, then at least one Street Fighter 2 game should be. Street Fighte one does not count...it is shyte (well, it is better than Mortal Kombat).

Eating a bowl of glass is a better idea than Tatoo Assasins.

I wasn't being sarcastic, and neither was KLOV. Street Fighter II may have popularized the fighting game, but at least Mortal Kombat made some advancements. That's really funny that you think even Street Fighter is better than Mortal Kombat. Ten bucks says at one point in time you thought MK was the coolest game around... It seems to me a lot of avid Street Fighter II supporters did and they just don't want to admit it because in order for MK to be "significant" it would have to be Japanese. Oh, the Genesis version of MK outsold the SNES version for more reasons than it being uncensored... Much to a lot of people's dismay the Genesis was still outselling the SNES at that time, but people seem to have forgotten about that too.

I would really like to know why people think Street Fighter II is so great. What is it about the games that you think one of them is required to be on the list?

Tattoo Assassins looks awesome I wish I could get my hands on that.

Edits: Spelling.

Mortal Kombat does not play well. Admitedly, it is much better than some people here say it is, but it still is only above average. Street Fighter on the other hand had excelent gameplay and better characters. It also seemed less gimicky.

The recent part of the list is garbage, and the entire fighting game genre was more or less overlooked. I'm not going to champion Capcom, but Gauntlet over the vs series? These people know nothing about this decade. An arcade operator who decided to get Gauntlet Legends or Dark Legacy instead of MVC2 would be living in a cardboard box right about now.

I can't argue against Mortal Kombat. Gameplay notwithstanding, it was the shit for months after it was released.

As for the Neo Geo getting overlooked, that's to be expected... the Neo had a lot of great games but the better ones were hard to find, especially the more recent ones like MOTW and MS3. Perhaps if some of the games had been more widely distributed...

Also, the multi-slot curse discussed in other threads may have hurt the Neo's chances for a blockbuster. It's hard for KOF 96 to compete with Capcom when it's sharing the machine with a Samuari Shodown and maybe a puzzle game.
