Well the fact of the matter is that sometimes an honest effort is put forth and some people who try to make that effort work get railroaded.

ECM telling Shou to hit the bricks on a problem that wasn't his fault was not cool. If anything he should bite the bullet and kept on going.

Too late for that now tho.....

Wow, more drama from the GameGo mag... Gamefan since back in the day has always been a strange mag... dont get me wrong, I liked it more than most, but they never seemed to have everything together. I tried subscribing to them atleast 4 seperate times, and they never subscribed me!

Sad that GameGo suffered such a quick death.. was it even ever alive? Issue 1 showed promise, too bad it will never be.

when i subscribed i recieved
1 issue.
then i waited for ages that would
then bring the burning rangers issue that
i ended up buying at newstand because i lost
faith in recieveing anymore mags for my subscription.
then the burning rangers ish
that finally came in the mail
had a nice little letter with the monitor
on the letterhead that apoligized for the
lateness of the mag.
that was the last one i ever got subscription
wise.. everything else i had to get at the store.

I have read the above story and I must say that I am shocked at what I have heard. I loved Gamefan and still do. I was so surprised and happy to hear that GameGo was going to have some of the old crew from Gamefan. Now I hear this and I am totally disturbed. Why is it so f'ing hard to get a good magazine up and running?

What a joke, it almost seems as if ECM used the term "hardcore gamer" in vain.
Look at this.....
ECM was cool to talk to in chat, but things are creepy now.
I regret this future ever materialized.
However, we are all contronted with choice, and that is that.

Its like one uncovering jerry episode after another.
Face the music, it sounds like shit...
ECM gave up....
ECM is not the god of the hardcore gaming scene.
THERE ARE MANY OF US who still appreciate the heavy side of gaming.
We do not need head figures if you get my idea...
I NEVER thought I would see the day I am dropping ECM's name...

How disturbing.

More and more I'm getting the impression that, while a good writer and a true SHMUPS fan (like me), ECM is an . . . um, asshole.

Shame really.

With all the comments going back and forth on that site, it makes you wonder what the real story is. The first issue was pretty good, a tad thin but good nonetheless. Too bad there is no mention of a refund to the people that paid for a full year subscription or is there?

This whole GAME GO! situation is very disturbing.
Communication is key and I really don't understand why ECM did'nt feel he had to communicate with his supporters as he did in the beginning.

I guess it's safe to say he won't be trying to promote anything 'GAMING' related in the future. i
NO GAMEFAN,NO GAMEGO!
Looks like the good ol' days of gaming is
officially over.....

Take any "facts" you read about GameGO! with a grain of salt. I'm not singling out Shou, who I've known for many years, but there are a lot of things that people will either never know or choose not to believe.

I feel terribly about the mag and how it ended up. We're going online, keeping the boards up, and just put up Issue 2 in PDF format.

Yeah, the Sengoku 3 review is in there.

In any case, thanks to anyone on these boards that supported us. Some GO! staffers are still around and we'll continue to try to cater to you guys and girls.

Thats good to hear, even without ECM you guys can still kick some ass.
GAMEFAN was THE best gaming mag and that will always be fact.
I loved the page quality and the way things were not geared so much towards the mainstream.
Closing house because of one person's mistake is not the answer.
So I say.
Good luck with GameGO!.

WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA!!

Everyone calm down, LWK...Big Bear. Let's look at this for a moment.

I shed no venom towards ECM. I've never talked to him, he's never stolen my Juice Box. However! I have followed his career, like everyone else, through countless issues of GameFan and countable issues of GameGO!.

ECM is not The Alpha and The Omega of the 'hardcore gamers'...I'm not sure he ever was!

Sure he was always a big supporter of 2D shooters, and in the "resurgance" of 2D shooters a lot of people seemed to have credited him with spreading the word.

Shooters probably woulda came back if ECM was never born.

What has ECM really done to alter the game world as we know it?

GameFAN kicked ass........ran into the ground. Who's fault? Beat's me.

GameGo! kicked ass.........self-destructing.
Who's fault?......well, who am I to point fingers?

Shawn has done more for the gaming community that ECM! A lot of people are quick to tell you how "small" the SNK community is...but it's sooooo deep. The PC-FX community consists of me and 20 other guys. Go check out www.pcenginefx.com, there's a post every week there...usually about ISO's.

Frankly it sucks!

Neo-Geo.com has brought togehter NOT ONLY SNK fans, but general game fans as well.

Shawn LITTERALLY brings games stateside...

Do you think SNK would run a US release if this community didn't exist?? Are you fucking stoned?

There are other Neo-Geo websites and bulletin boards, but this really is the big 'un.

Anyone who doesn't see this as a true contribution is totally dilluded.

Does this make Shawn the ultimate fan? Hell no. There are people who have done more than Shawn, but that doesn't diminish what he's done.

Here's the burning question.

If ECM was so fucking "hardcore"...why is he gone?

Answer...it was a job to him. Nothing more. If it's something you love, you do it.

I love making videogames.

I'm not working for a Game firm. That's all I want to do. You get a job elsewhere and do EVERYTHING you can to do what you love.

If no one will hire me, I'll do what I have to to make enough money and hire my damn self...and if you fail, god damn it you pick your sorry ass up and do it again.

ECM is a half-assed "Hardcore God".

If this is the best that the world-wide gaming community can do...I'm ashamed to be apart of it.

Well no one person can be given full credit for a scenes success. Anyone can put up a BBS, plenty do, it's a matter of if a crowd catches on to it, and comes. Give credit to the crowd for coming back everyday.

The reason the Turbo Scene sucks is cause it's not that concentrated, or their not as hardcore as neo owners. The neo scene was always hardcore, the crowd's just moved different places, Alec used to have it, then Dolphinlord had it, now Shawn has it, after Shawn someone else will have it.

Shawn didn't revolutionize anything, neither did Dolphinlord, the only person I could say that did, was the first person to start the first neo bbs that had a crowd, and who would that be? Because I don't have a clue.

I'm not crediting Shawn with anything more than building the site. But you have to look at things in absolutes. We can assume that if Shawn didn't pick up the slack when Neo Alec went south, but not ABSOLUTELY sure.

Comparatively is what I'm saying. Compared to ECM, Shawn has done more with a combination of the BBS and physically bringing games stateside. That's my only point. (hell, I feel that us freaks who make the inserts are the true fans *wink*...we see neither credit nor cash...I just hope someone likes it )

Dolphinlord picked up the slack when Alec went south, Shawn wasn't even a memory back then, if you wanna get blunt with things, Dolphin took Alecs crowd away, and Shawn stole Dolphins crowd from him, cause last I checked Dolphins club never died like alecs.

Who's saying ECM did so much? I never heard of the damn guy before the gamego site was up, and that lasted a whole couple monthes, so I never saw anything that he did.

Big Bear with is "Good Old Day's Of Gaming Are Gone" call.

And I sorta misread what LWK was saying, but irregardless I've heard it said before that ECM was King Turd.

Caris, let's not argue this point. We're just gonna dominate this thread.

I said my piece, my opinion.
You said your's.

Let's just let it go because we're gonna ping pong for another 20 posts .

Dolphin took Alecs crowd away

LOL.
One of these days, someone's gonna need to hold a class on neoscene 101. & Give history lessons of what we all actully did.
Although it is fun reading the speculation.

I credit him as being inconsistent, nothing more.

The departure of Gamefan, Gamego, and ECM *isn't* the death of the hardcore gamer or the end of some golden age. If you need a person/magazine to tell you what's hardcore, you're just as bad as the "mainstream sheep" that "hardcore gamers" so often complain about.

I appreciate what they were trying to do with the mag, but the information they provided will still be available on countless niche sites on the net. And for all we know, they'll be one of these...

GameGO! can be fine without ECM. I loved GameFan- but it was pretty good even in the "Die Hard" era, when there were Skid, Sgt. Gamer, and others.

What ECM did to Shou was a damn shame.

Haohmaru- Good luck with the online incarnation of GG.
