O.K, don't mean to be mean but SNK could of made kof2001 themselves

I have to admit after all this time and hype about Eolith creating it I thought I was going to see something beyond MVS graphics to me it doesn't look as good as kof 2000, the life bar looks to plain eveything about it.
Or maybe SNK have financial problems creating it.

p.s i am basing this on graphics

Well SNK probably passed this to eolioth because they obviously thought it wouldn't make them enough money to make it themselves.

And why would you think the graphics would be beyond MVS? It's an MVS cart! lol

We have to remember that most "third parties" in the history of NeoGeo are really just different branches of SNK, or different development teams (ie, ADK, Nazca).

There is no way SNK would hand over a franchise to a third party and just say "hope you come up with something good." We have no idea the level of involvement SNK actually had in this production, but I'm sure they had as much quality control as every previous release. Eolith might even be owned by SNK, but either way, make no mistake that SNK was involved in the production of this game at every level.

Personally I think it looks really promising. I really like the new art style and the new screenshots. And I REALLY like the logo... no more subtitle BS "The Slugfest"... "Millenium Fight... give me a break. THE KING OF FIGHTERS 2001 is ALL that needs to be said!

I don't care whats' wrong with SNK's financial problems. This game does make enough money. If only they put this game in WIDE attention on US-European market.*Home of the capcom domination of 2D fighters*

SNK has released every KOF game in the US, even 2000! Trouble is people don't play the machines, and that makes arcade ops not want to buy the next SNK game next year.

I was in a crowded arcade in 98 in DC, about 3 weeks after KOF 98 had come out in japan, the arcade there had the jap 98 in a machine, ONE GUY played it the whole time I was there, sad really.

My first impression of the 2k1 artwork is not too good, although I like the fonts and some backdrops (the Venice stage). Some chars (Ryo!) look strange tho. Let's see what the thing plays like, that's what really interests me.

and

Drift King: Why should SNK think 2k1 would not raise enough cash? I mean, it's Kof?!

SNK knows KOF franchise is money machine. They just don't have enough resource to continue it anymore. SNK got bankrupted, what? last year or something. Thankfully, they've revived, but things are not the same anymore. They lost bulks of programmers. (some of them went back to Capcom, others formed their own company, namely "Brezza Soft" who actually is responsible for making 2001, while Eolith was just an observer.) It would take awhile until they recover their full financial strength. I know it sucks, but take some pachinko lessons with Aruze, then stand up on its own, I think that will be the best for SNK. Until then, SNK would have to license for the time being. (KOF's been handed over, we already hear rumors of new Fatal Fury game (also licensed) )

During 1994, when KOF94 came out. Only few people played the machine in least popular places like the small shopping market store. But, if you go to a popular place like the mall for example. The mall suit with Samurai Showdown 2. Then KOF95 was out. It still comes at least popular places in Long beach, CA. But, the mall, the big crowd digs with cheesy Street Fighter Alpha 1. That's when the amount of skilled players decreased because of Alpha 1's chains and stuff. CPS2 still tops the MVS. Hey, isn't Real Bout 1 better than Alpha 1? In 1995 era.

I can't find ANY Neo-Geo machines near me. You used to be able to buy used neo-geo machines on Namcos website. Now you can't.

The only fighting game that seems to be pushed is Tekken 4. That's it. I don't know if the genre is dead or the house-wives-of-america are pushing for less violent games. I don't know...

SNK had it's heyday in the USA in about 93-94, Samurai 2 was their big blockbuster here.

The truth is NOW snk is stone dead in the USA as far as arcades are concerned. NO ONE plays neogeo machines. To put it in perspective I talked to a guy online, in texas that knows an arcade op, he said his Tekken Tag machine made hundreds a week at this one location, the KOF 2000 machine at that same location made like 5 bucks a week!

The crowds aren't playing them, arcade ops are lossing money and that = arcade ops selling their SNK machines and not buying more.

I mean about the only place youll find neo competition here is at a tournament, and how many people show up at a good one? 3o maybe 40? The crowds just arent there for snk here.

KOF 2001 would make no money here, its a lost cause.

i have to say its cool the art looks different, the kof art needs a facelift, but i do agree, those life bars are BIG as shit, and look like nintendo graphics, and the portraits on the life bars are TOO big, they take up way to much of the screen!

Thats going a bit to far, the art in capcom vs snk 2 is fresh as shit, some of the SNK characters never looked cooler (not all of them), and the capcom characters looked awesome.

They have a realistic kind of feel in it than the one in KOF2001. I'm still giving credit. Well, the KOF2001 gives me a new taste. Can't really think it's better(Everyone still complaining about Terry's look and Athena's?) Fine, it's a draw between CvS2 and KOF2001. Both of them are still spectacular. Give the new artist some time people.

I can't believe that the majority here does not like the new art. I was saying weeks ago that SNK needed to completly redraw all characters, change hair styles, clothes, age them a bit... etc, etc. I was tired of SNKs old cut and paste act.. most characters are unchanged since 94' and some even before that! Eolith, well still maintaining a similar look to previous versions of the characters, has slightly changed them, and I think they look great. Everyone looks much more natural now, the graphics are skinnier, sleekier, and sexier than ever (Mai looks freakin' great). The character select screen looks slick, I am really digging the color pallete and the character portraits are fresh and look pretty cool. I think this looks to be one of the coolest, atleast looking, KOFs we have ever seen. I may stand alone, but who the fuck cares... I think this game looks great.

KOF 2K1 is going to rock, the art is a fresh idea.
Which is good, and well.
How it plays is what matters to me, and about 90% of the crowd.

I work in an arcade in florida. We have a single 1 slot MVS machine, it has Samurai Shodown. It rarely gets played these days, though its a great game. The thing is, even if you work in an arcade all day, a machine tends to make more money than you notice. On busy days, friday saturday and sunday, pretty much every machine will get some cash in it, no matter how old or unpopular it is. NeoGeo games aren't as popular as they used to be, but the company that owns the arcade I work for sells MVS machines for $600, because on average they will still make over that in a year. $5 in week is too low an estimate for the average machine, especially with a newer game. Of course, if the new art brings in more players then GOOD!!! *smiles* Anything to get SNK up and running as it should be.

I see. Oh by the way, if you work at the Arcade, what will happen if a game is transferred? Will it bring out a new game replacing the transferred one? My Capcom vs SNK1 was transferred because the controllers mess up. I hope they transfer it for Capcom vs SNK 2. Also, that Capcom vs SNK 1 is the same machine tranferred by Samurai Showdown 4 MVS machine.

I also work in an Arcade and stuff is transfered all the time. When a cab is relocated that doesn't mean that we're going to get another to replace it -- sometimes we just spread the cabs out to fill the void. Generally, if the game is new, we'll keep it for several months, then it will go to another DM in the area, and we'll see how it does there. Whatever place the title is most lucrative is generally it's new home.

On a SNK side note: We haven't had an SNK cab in five years; quite depressing. Plus side I got a cab for free with World Heroes and Samurai Shodown 2 -- woo hoo! Heck, I'm generally allow to check the inventory and choose what games I want; very cool
