Console gaming pirates are anxiously awaited a new mod-chip which is expected to open floodgates of copied PlayStation 2 software. Curiously dubbed 'Messiah,' the chip has already begun filtering into the European underground market. Reportedly, the chip allows PlayStation 2 owners to play copied PlayStation 2 software on CDR and DVD-R discs, and well as original games from all geographic regions. Moreover, it removes all DVD-Movie territorial protection. Several varieties of PlayStation 2 mod-chips have been available in the Asian marketplace for months, however, none have allowed direct-booting of copied games. In the past Sony has managed to incorporate a combination of software and hardware revisions to fool would-be PlayStation software pirates. It's currently unknown how Sony plans to defend against the 'Messiah,' but we'll keep you posted. Below a several pictures of the chip itself.
