I have both.

And yes, there is a striking resemblance in the incompetence of both companies handling their systems...

...at least the NEO is/was around for 11 years, while the DC only lasted 2...

I personally own four Sega Dreamcast systems. The Dreamcast is an incredible game machine. It is too bad that so many overlooked the system. A little more support from the consumer and the developers would have gone a long way to extend the life of the system.

Just the other day I was in an Electronics Boutique. A clerk that worked there asked me if I had played the import version of Capcom vs SNK 2. I said not only have a played it I actually bought the import. He then said that he had it too but got his free off of the Internet - ie he burned himself a copy. I could not believe it. Folks like this helped to destroy Dreamcast but they'll never get it.

I just recently got a DC and I love the thing. It's got so many great games and they're dirt cheap! That's basically where the similarities end between the two systems, I can get a new DC game for $10 but a new Neo game could cost a few hundred.

Yea I know, whenever I go buy DC games the clerks wherever I go tell me "yea I burned this game it's great" or "oh do you have your DC modded for burns?" Not only are they taking profits from Sega and killing the DC, they're killing their own business. Retards

I have to disagree with this case somewhat. Capcom never released CVS2 DC in the US, so they should not be depending on US sales at all. If you want to bemoan piracy, go for it, just show me where in my region can I get a legal copy of the game first.

As for what killed the DC, that was Sega losing too much money on the hardware and then discontinuing it. The Playstation is much easier to pirate, but with Sony behind it, it's still fine.

Apart from the online side of it, I think the DC is just about perfect, as systems go!
Reliable, if you dont fuck it around. Plays perfect versions of £5000 arcade games. Does the best 2D graphics of ANY home console!
Every genre is represented in style!

Fighters.
Soul Calibre
SNK Vs Capcom
Marvel Vs Capcom
DOA 2
Rival Schools 2

Shooters.
Giga Wing
Bangai O
GunBird 2

Gun Shooters.
HOTD 2
Confidential Mission

Racing.
MSR
Sega GT
Crazy Taxi 1 & 2
Daytona

Action/ Role Play.
PSO
Headhunter
Shen Mue
Sonic 1 & 2
Alone in The Dark
Code Veronica
Ecco
Lodoss
Skies of Arcadia

Unique 1 offs.
Space Channel 5
Jet Set Radio
Samba Amigo

You can just go on and on, the list of GOOD DC games reads like a who's who of the last few years of console and arcade video gaming.
At some point over the next 18 months, when the "wise" gaming public realise they are a bit dissapointed with their PS2s and X-boxes, suddenly used DCs are gonna be hotter than GaymersAbyss at a pride march!

Lucky I too have four!

Good points about the DC. I love the console, and even though support is ending for it, there were MANY great games released for it which will be fun to play for years to come. In my opinion, to this day the DC is far superior to the PS2, which due to poor design and ridiculous hype hasn't come close to measuring up.

And for neojedi, while I can understand and appreciate your anger that games like Capcom vs. SNK 2 were never released in the U.S., the fact is that I have that game (JPN version) and it plays fine with a free Utopia boot disc on my U.S. DC. So its not as if you can't play it somehow, and in fact the whole game is in English anyway!!

The DC will always hold a special place in my heart, just like the Neo Geo still does after all these years . . .

I hate those people who "proud" of their pirate DC games and say some shit like "yeah, I have that copy (burned)", "DC games are awesome coz they are (free)"....etc.

Majority of my friends play "burned/pirate" DC games even I tell them to buy legit copies.......no one listens.

Um, you're confused again as usual Neolord. I replied to your lame attempted flame a while ago, I'm not "ignoring" you, although based on the intellect you've displayed tonight, might be better if I did.

Oh, and please don't clutter threads like this up with unrelated content. The subject at hand is the DC and its similarity to the Neo Geo in terms of its quality and possible future demand. Stick to the subject at hand and don't try to stir up flames, OK?

i dumped my DC burns a while ago. All I have are legit games now.... Hey we're all entitled to some mistakes now and then!

But don't go telling me that pirates killed DC. The DC died cause the Japanese market said "well wait and buy a PS2." So there were no big Japanese developers making killer app games on DC, which made for low sales in Japan and UK. So the system died.
Basically It had no really good RPG's in japan so it was killed off. Sad but true. I don't know if anyone can kill off Sony with Enix and Square in thier back pocket. Yeah those Japanese (and me) buy up those PS2's for RPG gaming goodness, it's kinda hard to compete with those numbers when it comes time to choose a platform to develop a new game on.

Peace

I have a Dreamcast and love it.

Generally, I don't give a rat's kiester about these overrated RPG's, especially those with turn-based fighting... the games I enjoy on it include Ferrari F355, Psychic Force 2012, The House of the Dead 2, VF3, the Street Fighter IIIs, and the Takumi shmups.

It bites that Capcom vs. SNK 2 didn't come out in the US as a DC game. Thank goodness for the likes of NCS whenever such a case arises.

I absolutely love my DC way more than any console. It has tons of great games when it was still alive.Even now it still has!

Recent releases like crazy taxi 2,CvS2,shenmue 2,headhunter,bomberman online,MOTW and some others show proof that the DC is still great. But i feel bad that sega discontinued it due to losses if not,it would still be great till this day.....

DC kicks ass!!!!!!!!

I have a DC, and 'course it rocks. Hey, it's from Sega!

Right, some DC games are heavily sought after, but only by a small number of ppl who can appreciate the quality of the last round of releases (CvS2, Zero Gunner, Mars Martrix, SM2, etc.).

The majority of (casual) gamers decidet either to wait for the PS2, or to trade-in their DCs to get Sony's latest console. The promotion of the DC by Sega was crappy, too (Sega standard). The DC was dead as soon as the first companies started to cancel releases.

Although it was not the main reason behind Sega's decision to step back from their own hardware, I believe that the pirating of some DC games actually *did* some harm to Sega and their DC. At least some developers were not too amused about the fact that some DC games (despite the near-proprietary media format) showed up as Honk Kong copies one day before the game had been officially released.

Industry giants like Sony may be able to cope with that, but not Sega.

The original arcade stick is a huge beast, with micro switches ("clicky" stick) and overall high quality parts.

However, the stick does not feel and control as tight as the Neo old-style board. Specially in MotW DC I had a hard time first pulling off some moves, it took me about one month to get used to Sega's stick. That's why I appreciate Arakon's Neo->DC controller adaptor project.

My fav DC games are, in no special order:

MotW, SF 3rd strike, Sonic 1, Quake 3 and CvS2.

I have a DC as well, but still love my MVS system over the DC. Probably cause my MVS is newer than my DC. I like the fact that a lot of the DC Emulation sites are still keeping the DC alive with Doom DC, Sintendo, NesterDC, plus all of the tools.

I thought import games were considered illegal outside of the country they were meant for! ???

whos agetec? and where can i find their site for their stick? and why do people say 'sites supporting DC' when their bloody emu sites? and i feel the only reason DC failed is due to the Microsoft link up which meant that most games and the console was easily acessiable by pc's and could then be easily copyed ps REMEMBER THE PROMOTIONAL STUFF ABOUT DREAMCAST USING 1GIGABIT CDS AND THAT THEY WERE UNCOPYABLE! WELL I RECKON IF THAT WERE RIGHT THEYD STILL BE IN THE GAME, and on a different note my mate had an emu dc on his pc but after playing a couple of games he went out and spent a fortune on dreamcast originals, the same thing happened with me and my neo emulator for my dreamcast i ended up bying the mvs arcade and have now got about 30 original carts, so maybe just maybe emus can do a bit of good, but maybe itd be better if they only included a few levels instead of the whole thing, and if that sounds good why dosent a hacker get into some sites and start locking up certain levels and leave a message saying' if u like this so far then f@ckin buy it' its a bit extreme but it could have a good effect
