I don't know about the rest of you, but I am not too excited about KoF 2k1.

When I first read about it, one glaring factoid that stuck me in the eye was the lack of a team edit.

Strike 1.

Then came wind of some weird new striker system.

Strike 2.

Lastly, I was very dissappointed in KoF 2k.

Strike 3.

Granted, some of these assumptions may be wrong or have changed over time, but one fact remains. I am not interested in KoF2k1.

Anybody with me?

I'm replying to say that I AM excited! Sorry, I know it's not the answer you were looking for, but I just can't help but be excited about this one.

PS: I love Akira

I try my best not to make an judgements about the game until I try it.

It does LOOK better than 2k though.

If you have played one kof you have played them all. i mean sure there are new moves and combos but most chars are excactly the same in each version.only difference is back drops
however i like playing them and as soon as the game is cheap enough to own i will buy it on mvs

You're kidding, right? They scrapped custom parties and forced the default parties on you? That means it's not even KOF anymore.

Teams can still be edited, I don't know where all this 'no editing' stuff came from.

Greg, you must be kidding, right? This is the very very last game with actual SNK people involved and we should not be getting excited about?

NO. I am pretty damn excited about this one and there are lots of reasons for that.

-- new characters with Garou like animations
-- a fantastic new boss
-- very nice combos to be found as seen in the new videos
-- excellent stages with lots of background animation

to name just a few.

But sure, if you don`t like KoF or fighting games that`s something else.

But I really really do hope this makes it onto homecart yet <keeps fingers crossed> that Sun Amusement (and Shawn? :rolleyes will make it possible!

I gotta say that I felt the same way as Greg, up until recently.

Then, I saw the mpegs someone here posted about. WOW!

Animation of the characters looked, to me at least, to be MOTW quality. That one boss with the insane cape flowing around, used as a weapon, was insane.

After seeing those, I GOT EXCITED about KOF2K1!!

Now I'm really hoping for a home cart release . . . and it sounds like it just might happen!!

I am "holy-shitness" excited, i watched those vidds and i think it's very cool how there's two end bosses. Ignis' supers look so bad ass, and for some reason, the graphics in the game look a LOT smoother than 2K.

K9999 is the man. I like the new striker system, it could make battles a lot more interesting. for example, a two person vs 4 person team. should be fun.

i'm excited. hell yeah.

KOF2K1? Funk that.

Hmm, I should be excited about a new character that's a total rip-off of Tetsuo from Akira and some other new lamers, eh? Nah. Garou was the last great SNK fighting game. If you want real KOF, fire up a copy of KOF '98. After that, the lame new characters and bullshit striker system sent this series to an early grave. Leave the weak strikers in the Capcom VS games where they should rot. I'd sooner play Capcom VS SNK 2 then KOF2K1.

I don't really care about KOF2K1

1) art style is different
2) SNK is dead.....
3) KOF games are all the same ......

I'm still excited.

The art style may be different, although it's by Tonko (the guy who did Garou MOTW).

This may be the end of KOF as we know it... although strikers are in it, I've kind of learned to live with this. At least the strikers have a limit (unlike MvC2 where you can truly abuse the hell out of them).

KoF 2001 looks like it may be THE GREATEST GAME OF ALL TIME to me and my friends... but then again, we're King of Fighters '99 junkies, even after Garou

Definitely looking forward to it. Was disappointed to hear that Jhun Hoon got cut, and even though Mei Li doesn't look that good (her character sprite), she looks like she'll be interesting to play. Also, it looks like they decided to go all-out on the character animation, presumably because there's very little chance of any kind of console port. I don't like the idea of Foxy having an instant draw DM (seems like a game breaker), and I don't care for the infinites (especially Kula's, which looks too damn easy to do), but otherwise, it looks pretty good, definitely better than 2000, which was a disappointment for me.

If I can find an arcade with it, I'll drop some quarters on it, no question. And if Sun Amusement comes through with the AES like Enterbrain/Arcadia reported, I'll definitely import the home cart.

Not really interested...

What I would really like to see is a new Fatal Fury game with the Garou engine but using the old characters (Mai, Andy, Joe, etc.)

I just can't get into Fatal Fury and Real Bout with all that multiplane movement.
