Tak's ne-o-rama Neo Geo FAQ

I just uploaded the very first version of my Neo Geo CD FAQ.

The FAQ is part of a complete web site I'm about to finish, but I've decided to publish the FAQ stand alone to get some feedback first.

So - any comments (and additions) welcome!

Thanks guys'n'gals.

GREAT FAQ...

I own a prototype game.

Mutation Nation.

The CD looks fake, but it was pressed on a NGCD, and its has some sort of stamping on it with a date. You can tell by looking at the small letters on the center of the disc.

If it says NGCD then its real.

Very cool! Nice to see some info reguarding the rumor of replacing the cd drive to make it load faster. I know someone whoe tried this. I tried to tell him: No, you need much more than a faster cd drive!!", but alas, he tried anyway (and wrecked his system). Nice work man!

Proto MN, woah... Got any pics of it? Would be a nice addition for the "Finding, Buying and Collection" chapter of my FAQ.

Thanks for the replies so far, guys. I will do a major update over the weekend and try to finish the whole site. Keep your peeled!

Mitch, my CD Collection is no longer for sale. I was choosing between my Acura and my games, and you sure as hell can't get a speeding ticket from a NGCD System :D

The Font Loader looks "real sexy"? I describe it personally as being a "real presence" because of it's size and sturdy construction. You may want to add a pic of that as well to your faq.
Another interesting thing I've never seen accomplished would be approxinate load times for each game. Puzzle Bobble loads into memory,League Bowling..I remember Fatal Fury Special being an excellent load....basically all titles up to KOF 94' loaded on the NGCD rather nicely.
One more thing..I found that the design is abit flawed in the TOP LOADER...The pcb that houses the joy ports sits on a ledge above the main board within with "minimal support" and can be damaged by inserting and removing the joy plug with excessive force. Also be careful with the yanking of joystick cords as well so I would recommend the use of extension cables.

BB, so far I have loading time charts for 21 games, which took me lots of time to make, sitting there with a watch and measuring all that loading. Specially the newer FF series games are tricky because they come with pre- and post-fight-anims with short loading intervalls... heh, guess this was the first time the Neo CD loading was too fast for me!

LB2's loading is da shit... Initial loading: 23 secs, menu: 14, intro: 21, pre-fight anim/screen: 40, level 1 fight: 36... ...that's more than two mins of loading before you can play the first level!

Other games load quite quickly, Mutation Nation, Sengoku 1+2, Ninja Combat, prolly any game before 96.

Anyway, I will do charts for all the Neo CD games I own, it's just a matter of time, and put it on my site.

Thanks for your tips! And, yep, "sexy" was the first thing that came to my mind when I first saw that big black front loader thing. I wanted to have her, with all her Rubens proportions! ;)

Yes the design of the Front Load CD was unusual @ the time until 3do copied it :-D
As far as "load times" go,I can remember some of the longest being KOF 97' Real Bout Special & Last Blade. I got rid of my CD stuff before LB2 and KOF 98' were released. @ the time I collected CD stuff,it was easy to get ahold of all originals, most with the spine..(I was anal about not having the spine card then.) :-D
Besides Metal Slug,I feel Real Bout FF is better on CD thanks to the tracks...that intro music is the best on CD..puts the ROM to shame...damn that music would HYPE me up!! I would just leave it on to listen to the demo.

Cool faq indeed.

Here's a trivial question for everyone here:

Which company designed and built SNK's MVS board?
