Nice review. It IS the best KoF since 98, maybe even better. Good to see a review worthy of the game.

The review is decent to say the least. As usual, they are nitpicking on the graphics. They call it ugly. But i think that the backgrounds are some of the best in the series. They are right about the game being the deepest 2d fighter.

Yeah, I was suprised at how well it scored at gamespot. The guys over there seem like graphics whores and are only interested in the latest and greatest. It's nice to see KOF2k1 get the praise it deserves. I don't know why he dogged the backgrounds so much, they seem fine to me. They're not amazing, but they're not as poor as he made them seem. Personally, I think Neo Geo's graphics look much better than most of the 3D polygonal crap on PS2. I'm just so sick of 3D. The golden age for me was definately the 16-bit era.

I thought the character graphics is very very nice, prolly the best in the series.

The backgrounds, however, seems alittle washed out to me. And the animation isn't that great, HOWEVER, it is still very nice (especially compared to KOF2K). To me, KOF96 and 97 have the best backgrounds, I just love the dock stage for 96!

The game is deep, does anyone know any good combo faqs for the game? I just saw a guy ripping up the arcade with just May Lee (and 3 strikers) today. Damn i think he plays it there everyday (in NYC chinatown, but NOT at the arcade)

Why is it that every movie they have on gamespot shows someone playing like shit? <img src="graemlins/ohno.gif" border="0" alt="[Oh No]" />

Hmmm... I have to disagree. The backgrounds in 2K1 are easily some of the worst of the series. They are badly drawn, and lacking in both color and animation, not to mention that they are very pixellated. The background style in 2K1 is very similar to '97, and they looked better even back then.

Don't get me wrong, I love 2K1 and I think it's overall a major improvement over 2000 but the backgrounds stink. IMO the KOF with the best backgrounds is '99 and the best KOF overall is '98.

Yeah...nothing pisses me off more than waiting half an hour to download a movie only to discover the guy playing it is complete turd!

Still, nice to see a Neo-Geo review get some publicity on such a high-profile site.
