Math is always a good way to put things into a perspective. Lets see 500 carts times 285 = $142,500
That’s a lot of money!! Now lets minus some expenditures and lets pretend:

$50 to make the games X 500 = $25,000 could be between $60-$70
$30 Profits to Shawn X 500 = $15,000 maybe $30-$40 markup or more
Crank up the factory = $10,000 that’s cheap
Workers = $40,000 for 6-8 workers at Japanese rate $40,000 might be way too low ($5,000 a person)
Miscellaneous = $10,000 art, ink, press machine, gum and .ect
That’s what - $100,000…SNK DID ALL THIS FOR US FOR ONLY $42,000

I know SNK is broke but, this will not help them. Sorry doesn’t make any sense.

That's a good breakdown, Pichai. I couldn't speak to the accuracy as I have no idea of the costs involved, but it looks like you do. The one thing I would say though is to remember that the actual run was 2000, and that only 500 got English art. That would of course make the English ones a little more expensive on a per unit basis, especially with the manual. Still though, even at 2000, that's not a huge profit margin. Hey, at least they love us enough to do it, I guess!

RyoGeo,

Your right 2,000 would increased the profit. But, than again $5,000 per Japanese workers is way too low coming from a country that have $2,000 a month rent for 2 bedrooms in Tokyo. Well, Atleast they love us...

I agree with RyoGeo the production quantity is more likely at least 2000, not 500. All artwork was already done for the previous Japanese release of MS3, so no new design costs there.

As I said in another thread, not sure about your production numbers. Assuming they are a bit low, the profit looks to be more like 200K plus, who knows. In any case, If you saw the cartridge and artwork you might not be so doubtful . . . <IMG SRC="smilies/eek2.gif" border="0">

Well, small margins are better than no margins. If they know they can make money off the deal, and it's not affecting profits in other areas, why not go for it?

Kind of an "is the glass half empty or half full" situation. <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">

I'm so very afraid of what housing could cost when I study abroad in a year or two. I certainly can't afford to split 2 grand a month between 2 people. Hopefully university housing is cheaper...

I think your number are, well, to High on the costs.

Think about it in this prespective, and lets take a recent Non-Snk release like Strikers.

50 carts were made and sold at $400 a cart so that is $20,000?

according to your cost model there would be no room for Profit.

There are also a few NGH's out there which may not even have a 500 piece run in English as well. SO would you say all these past release are not SNK as well.

I see the points you are trying to make but your number are way off. Costs are a lot cheaper. I am sure the PCB board press that does the NGM's is the same that does the NGH's. They even probable share resources with the workers and print houses and such for the release.

There was a rerelease of MS3 NGM along with the NGH. Do you not think these were done at the same time? How many MS3 NGM's were released as well. There is a shared cost as well to be considered.

I'm just throwing numbers out there. Maybe, it cost less than $50 to make each cart. You have to consider the SNK cases, Black shell, PC boards, chips, ect. And than there is Shawn's profit, $30-$60 each game. I can't even imagine paying Japanese SNK workers only $5,000 each to crankout these games. What do you think they get pay? Plug that into the equation. I just think that if the profit was there, why start now with MS3 and why not do the English KOF2000, KOF2001, or NITD. The demands are for MS1, Ninja Master, Kizuna Encounter. They can sell those for $400 each and that would give them a $120 more profit for each cart. This game might be done professionally with a 3rd company in Japan with rights to SNK products. Than again..NGF claims they have exclusive rights to SNK in the US.

I Do not know if the PCB board Manfacturing plant is even owned by SNK or someone else. For all we know it could have been owned by SNK and it was absorbed by Aruze and beside making NGH, NGM and other PCB boards it is making boards for slot machines, pachinco machines etc. i doubt it took more then a week to actually do the run of NGH's Japan and English. It was just fitting it in the schedule.

what is the other option. It was cheaper to get 500 metal slugs 3 japanes NGH carts. Remove the stickers, Pay someone else to print the work. reapply the stickers by hand then if SNK did it to begin with. or even to order blank carts.

SNK just came out of bankrupcy I am also sure there is pressure for them to show a profit no matter how Small.

yes I do think your figure of $5000 per employee is high just becuase as I said I doubt it took more then a week to even do the run. Maybe $5000-$8000 in labor for the whole week, If that. And that is also assume the parts are made in japan and not somewhere else. I am sure they are assembled in Japan, but usally the parts are made in other locations.
