look at the screens.

the character shadows are behind them, and not infront.

all the other kof games afaik, had the shadows infront of the characters. (dont remember 2k1)

i remember someone mentioning that the characters looked to finnally blend in with the bg's.

this is definately a contributing factor...

i just thought i'd point it out.. ;)

The old school KOF games had alternating shadows. Like KOF 96, some were under some were above.

Now the character has more detail that way. The shadows were too distracting in the other KOFs.

Correct me if I am wrong, but are those background people in a giant clog?

You are correct, Jigen. The Dutch drive those to herd sheep into the windmill, wool shearing machines.

Hehe, cool.

"KING OF FIGHTERS 2002!! ... oh, and VF4 evo, too", that's how it's supposed to be.

Must tell the idiots of our gaming mags over here what a mag worth its salt should put on the fukn front page.

Over here, it's a 5x5 cm box in a mag, on p. 143 or so, something like "in case you didn't know, apparently there's a sequel to KoF". What smart move.

Yes you are right. I didn't notice that the shadows in KoF series were in front.

KoF 2K2 looks nice. I can't wait for the arcade release, that is if my local arcade can afford it. They are a bunch of cheap assholes.

Sure.
The Neo can't handle transparencies by hardware, so what they do is paint one pixel of each two of the shadow or paint the shadow once every two frames to emulate it, and that's what they get that flash effect.

SNKfreak is right, kof 96 also has the shadows at the back & at the front, also they can be at different angles depending on the stage & where the sun is at in that stage.

Evil Wasabi

well, ihavent played many kof;s in a wwhile, so sorry i wasnt exactly right, but you get the point :p

anyway, i think they should just stick with solid shadows or something, the flashing ones are annoying.

yeah, I know, and the flashing shadows look kinda cheap also.

I bet the end boss will be wicked kool. I thought that the end boss from KOF 2001 looked pretty neat. What would be even better if you could use your shadow to attack your opponent. Kind of like the last guy in Wicked City did on top of the church in the final scene of the movie.

In KOF98 for DC,
there are stages where
the character shadows are
behind.
Play the game now and see
for yourself.
