I cant believe that I'm the first person to start a topic off about this.
I guess everyone is tooo busy drooling over the KoF2002 pictures.

Anyway, Madmans' Cafe (you all know the link by now) have a link to an interview with the ROTD development staff.

One part worthy of note is that the developers stated they were happy with the success of the game in arcades and they even hinted at a possible sequal.

How excited we should all get over this rather depends on how much everyone likes the game when it comes out on Sptember 26th.

Yup! <img src="graemlins/drool.gif" border="0" alt="[Drool]" />

But I finally got around to reading the interview, most of the questions go something like...

Question:
How does this relate to the Technos Double Dragon side-scrolling series and storyline?

Answer:
It doesn't dammit!!! <img src="graemlins/loco.gif" border="0" alt="[Loco]" />

Still pretty interesting though. Direct link is <a href="http://www.classicgaming.com/doubledragon/evogainterview.htm" target="_blank">here</a>

Hey! I liked how they nudged him with questions on side-scrolling beat em ups. We need more games like those.

They mentioned in the interview that beat em ups do not draw attention like they used to, so it isn't profitable to make them.

What about Dynasty Warriors 3? That did pretty well.. I dunno.. They must have been referring to Sengoku 3..

Yeah I hear that. But we need not just side-scrollers but good side-scrollers. And a good side-scroller (ie Double Dragon, D&D) is hard to make because every enemy or enemy group needs to have some personality and unique behavior, or the game washes out fast.

What worries me about Sengoku 3 is that the market observers interpret its performance to mean that side-scrollers are past their prime. But I think that the enemy design was not deep enough for this game to have been a hit. People had fun playing, but were finished with it after a few times through, not like the examples above which kept people hooked for years!

I hear ya... Sengoku 3 was a step in the right direction my eyes (I never really liked most of the other Neo Geo side scrollers to tell the truth), but it did have many flaws. The lack of different enemy sprites was one, although I think the combo system made up for it a little. If it had a little more variety it would have been a better game and I think more people would have been interested.

I hate to say it, but Capcom always made better side scrollers than SNK - Cadillacs Vs Dinos and AVSP still own me ;)

Y'know, its kinda sad that ROTD seems to be getting ignored or forgotten about lately. I mean, isnt this what the Neo needs? Something thats been started entirely from scratch, no recycled graphics or ideas (I'm referring to the MS and KOF games).
I think the last Tag fighter on the Neo was Kizuna Encounter- and thats pretty old now. It seems a shame that all people can think about now is the next KoF (and then subsiquently moan about any changes) instead of looking forward to something with new characters, a new (fairly up to date) style and a different combat system?

Personally I hope ROTD does well in arcades and home sales so that Evoga make that sequal they were hinting at, and perhaps iron out the problems people have reported with it.

I Agree, i'm going to put down my preorder as soon as i know that i got the money for it.

Look at the life bars, and then look at the lifebars in Sengoku 3. No recycled graphics huh? ;P
