I'm just curious, has anybody completed their Neo Geo cartridge collection? <IMG SRC="smilies/smirk.gif" border="0">

Ok, now I know almost everyone on this board hasn't so let's just say you did complete your Neo Geo cartridge collection. Then what? Would you collect say Sega games or just sell the whole collection and go sailing in the caribbean or would you do something else? <IMG SRC="smilies/drool2.gif" border="0">

Hmm Id have to say if i could afford all the neo games then id look into buying a Saleen SR. That would be my prized possesion!!

Just about to finish mine in another year. Once done, I'm still going to play the games. I don't buy em just to collect dust....

If I've completed all Neo games? I'll then start selling those games I don't want to play no more (like Super Spy, King of Monsters and so on).

I'm going to complete my MVS collection and thats it.

AES collecting is, IMO, stupid.

Think about it...$1200 for Metal Slug? $800 for MOTW? $2,000 can put your kids through a semester or two of college...or buy two games?

In all honesty, the Neo-Geo is AWESOME! I love my MVS collection! I don't think I paid $2,000 for 45 games!!!

Why people waste hard earned cash on AES titles is BEYOND me!

Think about it...Metal Slug for MVS vs. Metal Slug AES!

Why do people collect stamps?
Why pay $5000 for a stamp the post office would not even recognize?
Especially when you can post a letter for 34cents.

People collect all kinds a shit.
Neo is just doubly attractive cause it can be fun to collect & you get to really play with your collection.

I couldnt see collecting stamps. Boering.
If I was rich, Id collect motorcycles.

Anyway,
If you dont enjoy collecting at all, then
MVS all the way. We all agree on that.

I have respect for every collector out there, I'm just NOT into the Neo-Geo that much to be forking over hundreds of dollars for a game when there is an alternative with the same game under its hood for the same system hundreds cheaper.

You do have valid points Nick...

I will not try & have any of it make sense, I can only apply my own viewpoint.

Its easier for me to justify, I dont enjoy most 3d games.

psx, pc, psx2, its just not my bag.
I like 2d.
I like neogeo, supernintendo, genesis, t-16 games better. Thats just me.
There are a few 3d ones I like, but not many.

I do not own a psx, or a n64, or any of these newer games.
Other than a saturn that i sold off to afford carts, & my dreamcast (I like capcom)
Other than neo, all the games I want are old & dirt cheap.
So neo is the only expensive vice I have.
Other than scotch.

For what it's worth, I'm only planning on collecting the entire Fatal Fury series on U.S. AES cart. So far the only games left on the list are RB2, FF, FF2, and FFS (also FF: Wild Ambition for PS I suppose). I can get FFWA for $15 and all of the rest, if I look hard enough, for under $50 (w/the exception of RB2). After that, I'll pick up an MVS converter and buy the MVS Metal Slug series, Bust-a-Move Again EX and Top Hunter. A while ago, I would have considered buying the Last Blade series on AES, but the impossibility of finding a U.S. AES cart of LB2 prompted me to give up on that and sell my LB cart.

Well. What I am about to say is true. I have come to accept that it is not reguarded as such until the collection is eyeballed. I have just shy of 900 carts for various systems, some I play almost daily, such as the Metal Slug series, and others I have never powered up.

I am in a position whereby I can obtain carts very quickly. Read into that as you will. I can also say that I enjoy collecting carts. I hope to one day put the carts and systems on display.

I enjoy collecting carts, and I very much enjoy the excitement that I can give to people who visit my house. I also personally enjoy sitting down of a weekend with my toolbox and cleaning products and restoring or repairing another handful of carts or a machine.

I collect these carts because I want to play them. I have never obtained a cart I did not want to play. I am not sure what value my collection has in a monetary sense. I can assume that it is substancial, but I have been able to spare the time and resources needed, so I see no ill effects there to my education.

Interestingly I do not have any home NEO-GEO carts. I would not rule myself out of one day owning a few, though I'd have to suggest that perhaps the money could be spent better in some collections until the polarization between the home and the arcade carts calms down.
