I just checked out GameGO!'s website, and on there they state that the magazine is now on indefinite hiatus after an 'implosion of funding'. I think this sucks royally, as I enjoyed the first issue very much and was really looking forward to their 2nd issue (namely the Sengoku 3 review.) I'd like to know what the rest of you all think about this. And, if ECM happens to read this, any chance you guys could post that Sengoku 3 review on this site? I hope you guys can come back and beat the odds, the 5% hardcore gaming nation could really use that continued shot in the arm.

Give them a chance. It's a very tough time in the print mag biz, especially for a start-up like GameGo. They ain't dead yet, but they do face a hefty challenge.

I don't have a subscription to Game GO!...but you know what, in light of this recent event...I'm getting one. Right now.

If the money disappears, it disappears.

I consider it a donation to the last bastion for the true game connoisseur.

I strongly recommend and encourage others to do as I'm doing.

Gawd, I hope not. If GameGO! goes under, that will leave me with exactly...ZERO game magazines worth reading.

God, I think it is true. I tried to subscribe to GameGo the other da, via Paypal. the sub was 2.99 plus 14.99 shipping. I completed my end of the transaction, but on my paypal status screen, it listed my gamego order as "canceled". My govt. cheese gets direct deposited to my account on the first of the month, so I have enough cash in my account. My other transactions went through, like my donation to thegia.com. I hope it's not true.

Same thing here:

This email confirms that Video Game Depot Corporation has denied the $14.99 you
sent and no money has been transferred from your PayPal account.

Boy this does not bode well for GameGO!.

I even told them in my letter it was a donation and they could keep it.

Man...must everything suck?

Well, I sent the payment of the same amount via Paypal Aug 30th, and it took my payment, but obviously I can kiss the magazine goodby.

I too, think GameGo! is/was an awsome mag. I drove 30 minutes to my nearest EB just to pic up the mag when I heard about it. I loved how they really spoke their minds when reviewing/previewing a game, and didn't have to rely on numbers or stars. The "old school" section was really cool too. After reading the article on Ys 1 & 2, it brought back so many memories, I just had to go out and buy a Turbo and Ys to relive that great game again.
All is not lost! There's still hope! I heard from someone that GameGo! guys are trying to sell the mag to a new company so they can keep the mag in active circulation. I really hope this happens, cuz it's a great mag, and I wish other gaming mags would follow suit.

Great sellers: GamersAbyss, Nikke, NeoGeo2k2

This isn't directed at anyone in particular, but I kinda like the quote...

"Hardcore never even existed. It was only invented as an excuse to
whine about the reduced production of genres that collapsed under their own
weight years ago.

All a hardcore gamer is is a developmentally arrested casual gamer. The
difference is, they're hooked on casual gamer's fare from 10 or 15 years
ago. That's not hardcore. That's retarded."

It's a little harsh, but...

IMO, "hardcore" or "real" is pretty much a term elitist gamers use. There's no such definition, and the idea that ECM somehow embodies the idea scares me. I mean, what are the requirements? Shun everything mainstream? Shun everything 3D? You have to like shooters or 2D platformers?

Playing tons of games should be enough to be a "real" gamer - the moment "hardcore" is linked with likes or dislikes it becomes silly.

I liked Gamefan and the first issue of Gamego! for the games they covered - stuff that wasn't available in other mags. But one thing I've never liked about ECM and crew is the huge inconsistencies in their reviews and their general dislike for "mainstream" gaming.

Your right Nick,

Which is why I avoid the term "hardcore" like so much plague.

I defense of LWK I know he what he means. LWK is a game player. He likes games. I have no doubt that his 'hardcore' comment is the correct usage of the word.

'Hardcore' is like the word 'Hacker'. It's meaning is lost and now synonymous with someone who has to have the newest fastest bigest bestest game around. Screw anything that may be older yet fun.

Hardcore to me, means you can play a kick ass game of Skate or Die!

Hardcore to me, means you bought a new 50" cab, rip out it's guts, only to play nothing but Yie-Air-Kungfu on it.

Hardcore to me, means you've beaten Gates of Zendacon.

Hardcore means you love fleamarkets because where else can you find such an abundant supply of cheap NES games?!

Hardcore to me, means that you too go to www.the-underdogs.org on a bi-weekly basis.

Hardcore to me, means if you want to be in the industry like I do, your first choice of jobs ISN'T something that will pay good. You're first choice of jobs are Planet Moon, Nihlistic, Dreamforge and Looking Glass (god rest their souls)...because the games they made were so kick ass that it was impossible not to love it.

Does this mean Dreamcast sucks? Hell no.
It means you have respect for the games!
Respect the old school, you low-class fucks!

That is the spirit that GameGO! represents.

If you want the new-style of Hardcore, go to ShugaShack.

In the meantime I sit, content, as a game connoisseur.

**as much as I hate 'Hardcore' I sure said it a lot, didn't I?**

For full effect, read this will humming "Battle Hymn of The Republic".

Thank you.

Edited...and you're not the boss of me.

To me, a hardcore gamer is one that appreciates good, quality games regardless of whether they are on the Atari 2600 or the PS2. The problem is, quality titles are lacking due to game companies catering to the mainstream to increase sales. I will eventually get a PS2, after they have worked out the hardware bugs and such. Meanwhile, there is a universe of incredible games out there for systems that are not even produced anymore. I have spent more on Saturn games in the last six months than on PSX games in the last three years.

I do believe ECM gave Zelda majoras mask a 98 in Gamefan. That game is very mainsteam and 3-D.

Anyway, ECM is a man that cares about this industry and to see this happen to his new magazine makes me sick.
