this company have been keeping things 'hush' for now.i'm not too sure if its to suprise us or something. But we should get to know some details on kof 2001 by now.there are no new info about the game other than the returning of popular fighters and a 'fun' striker system.we need some juicy tidbits on that game but Eolith has been keeping quiet all this while.

Maybe it's better this way... i'm not too confident about this new chapter... since the great '98 edition, the series is getting worse every year...

since the great '98 edition,
the series is getting worse every year

May someone disclose to me what is so incredibly great about `98? I dunno, have been playing it for years every once in a while and could not detect anything great in it ...
Lame stages, lame (if any) story, and an
overall rushed feel.

My personal KoF ranking is:

1. KoF `00
2. KoF `96
3. KoF `99
4. KoF `97
5. KoF `94
6. KoF `98
7. KoF `95

Eolith has been keeping quiet all this while.

Maybe because the game maybe hasn`t even
left the planning stage? I don`t want to
sound scary, but I have a mixed feeling about this.

Star, why on earth did you rate '95 last?!? That's number 1 in my book, with '98 with a close second, and 99 or 2000 as an honorable mention. But why is that one last?!?

Gameplay wise, nothing beats KoF98 IMO, with 96 and 99 close behind. If you have played KoF frequently from 94 to 2000 you will notice that 98's gameplay is very well balanced. The characters already have their post-96 smoothness and great moves, while offering swift, right-in-yer-face controls. Get Kyo, Terry, Andy or Ryo, some practise, and after a good 20 hours fighting you'll be able to kick some serious ass

Interesting note here. I've seen a couple Japanese Distributors start taking preorders for KOF 2001. The price is 88,000 yen or approx $740 us.

Which is actually quite cheap, both '99 and '00 debuted on MVS for over a $1000. Of course '99 plummited to around $100 after 2000's release, I expect 00 and 01 to do the same in due time I m just happy 01 is comming, now I can get 00 for cheap!!!

kof 98 is the best in the series IMO.
i think tha kof 2001 might take its spot since its also a Dream match but with the Nest storyline.i hope that korean company release some new screenshots at least for kof 2001

Kyokyugen Star- Truthfully, KOF'98 has NO story. That's why KOF'99 is "Episode 5" and 2000 is 6.

But the lack of story is forgivable IMO since 98 is the best playing one of the series.

KOF '98 has no story because is a sort of collection of the previous KOFs, for gameplay and characters: a 'Dream Match', exactly!

98 was cool... shame the boss team from 96 weren't in it :/

Having the USA sports team but not the 96 boss team is unforgivable

That's true, they must bring the boss team back with a new member (Wyler)

Wyler? I didn't think we was worth anything when he debuted in AOF 3. I would much rather see Hienlien (or whatever his name is) from MOTW.

You mean Grant, or Kain? Yeah, one of them in KOF would be cool. Hell, I think all the people in the game should get a make-over like Terry did in MOTW, that would be sweet. Age some a few years, change hair styles, clothe styles on others. I mean, christ, these people have kept the same style since 94 and before it is time to update!!! Ha, anyway,

i'd rather KOF didn't turn into one big mish mash of SNK chara and remained seperate from MOTW. I like the way they introduce new chara in KOF instead of reeling in lots of chara from other franchises to justify the update.

SNK should make "SNK Battle Royale" with every fighting game chara Fuck that Capcom vs SNK shit.

For me:

1. KOF 98 (because it feels right)
2. KOF 99 (K and Krizalid were great)
3. KOF 94 (classic)
4. KOF 96 (boss team... but Chizuru and Goenitz weakens the game)
5. KOF 97 (still good and it has Shingo )
6. KOF 95 (the music seriously annoys me)

for me its a simple answer for why its my favorite
cause it lets you play with pretty much every character from previous kofs and also retains an incredible balance..amazing
also the gameplay is the best of teh series..playing 98 is like second nature to my hands
