They gave the game 7/10 which isn't that bad considering EGM is a mainstream magazine. The one statement that really distrubed me was, "If you don't care much for the flowery presentation, you probably won't get into LB2 because it's just not as deep as most modern 2D and 3D fighters."
What in the fuck does flowery presentation mean?! Last Blade 2 is just not as deep as most modern 2D and 3D fighters?! Did they even play the fucking game!?
I am burning this issue of EGM in addition to canceling my subscription!
May they all die of the black plague!

It's cool that Che and Shoe have come back though...
Anyone know what EGM gave rating to LB1?

The last Neo Geo game I remember them reviewing was RBFF (issue 80) and hey, RBFF won "Game of the Month" so thats pretty sweet.

Seriously, what the hell fighters are they playing that are so much deeper than LB2????

someone listed NeoRageX (i think in EGM) as one of their current favorites this past month... At least someone there still appreciates neo games

Its funny how bad EGM has got compared to years ago. I used to read it from top to bottom back in the day, quality articles and reports... those were the days.

Now of them to call LB2 "less deep" than current fighters is a true insult.

As far as I'm concerned, GAMEFAN was the only mag.

I'm with outsider, EGM has sucked for the past year and a half. I used to think it was the best along with Gamefan and Gamers Republic, now it has gotten worse while even Gamepro has gotten better (and to me that magazine was really lame.) EGM think they are trying to be funny but are not. It is pitiful

Yeah, lets all hop on the I hate EGM bandwagon. I still think it is a good magazine. No, it is not as good as it was back in the old Semrad and Harris days (Sendai, not Ziff) but we cannot have everything.

EGM was always about being on the cutting edge and that still holds true today. They frequently update the design, they always remain on up to date trends of what is popular (remember all those Street Fighter 2 covers--todays street fighter 2 is Res Evil or GT3), and they always kept the same basic feel; an great, non-biased-informed read.

EGM was the same as it always was. Sure the quality may have dropped, but it still stands for waht it was back in the day.

It's probably the best Game mag that you can get on a monthly basis.

And anyone who calls Gamepro a better mag is illiterate.

I did say that Gamepro has gotten better not that it is a better magazine, I do feel that the quality of the magazine has become better, while that of EGM has gone down. I think that you are lame for not reading my comment correctly. Anyhow it is what you prefer anyway and I think that they all have something to offer Gamepro is the most mainstream of the bunch then EGM on down. I do feel that Gamepro has become less of a kiddy magazine to me anyway. I do miss when they used to review neo games.

Well, all I have to say is that I wouldnt be so lame to you if you just made your self more clear. You know, grammar. I'm not a perfect practitioner, but I try to make things as clear as possible. Clarity, my friend, clarity...it does a body good.

P.S. Gamepro is the same magazine it was 10 years ago; design, content and lameness all add up to shit. Who the fuck does a fucking cover story on fucking NFL bltiz?

wouldn't- punctuation does a body good to buddy. I'm not here to argue with you or pick apart anything you write. Anyhow I agree with you, but if I was 13 years old or didn't care too much about games I problably would think it was a good magazine. I wouldn't put blitz on the cover also. I also did notice that Dan Electro puts posts or replies on this site, so I am not gonna make anymore comments about Gamepro out of respect to him. I will reply to your comments though.

I stopped reading EGM about 6 years ago because they jacked up the format and started printing on bullshit quality paper. I also grew up. I remember the Sendai days ... I remember anxiously awaiting the launch of EGM2 ... and I remember when they gave away real prizes for the envelop art contest (an SNES arcade Fire Stick -- SNES controller board wired to arcade buttons) because I WON!!! I also remember when subscribers got a special edition of the Quartermann letter in every issue ... which later turned to tear-out special moves sheets for fighters and then finally disappeared.

GameFan was nice back in those days, too ... and I would pick up an issue or two every now and then a few years after. I also remember GameFan books. Next Generation was nice when it first launched -- I thought it was very refreshing and the polish of the magazine and the paper quality were unmatched. Of course, it quickly found the shitter, too.

I don't really pay attention to any of it nowadays.

Dude, did you realize that in so many words, you just admited that you have no spine? What, are you afriad that Dan Elcetro is going to flame you? I doubt
a fancy Gamepro editor would have the time for you. Luckily enough for you, I do. So go back into that cave of yours and cradle up to that calendar of 1994. When you feel you are ready to stop being a pussy, you can come out and voice your uninhibited opinion, little boy.

Punctuation is grammar, moron!

Jump off the fucking bandwagon while your at it.

#1 I am not a pussy nor a boy, and I think you are an idiot for getting so out of hand over this shit. Was I attacking you or anyone?-no. I do have a spine- You're a fucking ass clown man, that's all I have to say and you can quote me or have the last comment or whatever, but you are the one who needs to grow up my friend. I do think that if I was posting on this site (Dan Electo) that I would not want to get attacked for doing nothing, especially when I am offering suggestions in the tech section. People have helped me that way. Anyway, what kind of a comment is "get off the bandwagon" (what a stupid teenage remark). I feel like I'm dealing with a moron anyway. So long and Fuck you my friend,

Hey! I called you a moron first! Get your own insults, "ass clown".

Stop mentioning Dan Electro's name. He doesn't like you or anybody. He is a jaded Gamepro editor. They eat spam and write bad reviews all day. That takes a lot of time. Time, i must say, they dont have to worry about you!

Why don't you just marry Dan Electro! Dan Elcetro! ELECTRO! Damned YOU!

diehard gamefan back in the day "was"
the only mag.
i would read them just for the gamecave
section in the back..
but honestly you can look at all the
layouts they did and truely be impressed.
it was a super high quality mag that
supported the quality games that
all the other loser mags didnt cover because
they were not mainstream or fit in their particular mold.
gamepro sucked.
it still does.. they put out misinformation.
when the PS2 came out they had all kinds of
false specs when comparing it to the DC
and the upcoming GC. liars.
and its the most subscribed.. bought mag
by kids today.
and god.. ya know.. at one time i didnt think
the art was too bad.. when i first saw it..
but god.. retire the bastard already.
my pet cat can shit better art than what the
hell that geezer is puting out nowadays.
and dont forget gamers republic..
man.. if anything gamers republic was a cool
mag ...dave halverson is the man.
shame that crap like gamepro survive and thrive
while the good mags are cut.

it was che chou who put neoragex as his favourite, that asshole supports emulaters. And i am not pleased with the rating they gave sonic adventure 2 too.LB2 deserves 8.5.it seems most dc games are getting a cold shoulder as well as 2d games.

Hey:

Take into consideration that LB2 was only reviewed by one writer (Jonathan Dudlak), and perhaps you can just chalk it up to a matter of opinion. If James Milke, who is an avid fighting game player and an admitted SNK fan, had written that review I'm sure you would have seen at least an 8.5.

As for EGM...EGM is the only gaming mag I find worthy of subscribing to, and while they piss me off on a regular basis with their Tony Hawk and Gran Turismo fanaticism, their reviews pretty much decide for me what U.S. games to buy. I don't always agree with their reviews (their low scores of Strider 2, Ring of Red and Metal Slug X were just a little bit off), but they support importing and root for GAME companies, their support of the Dreamcast and Sega in general was awesome, and so I'll keep getting EGM in my mail.

Well. This is an interesting thread.

Rade, the cover story on NFL Blitz was a) one of our only football covers in 10 years and b) something like three years ago. If that's the last mag you have for comparison, you're not up to date with some of the changes we've attempted to make. We're still far from perfect, we're still lame and goofy and kiddie and all that stuff to some people--but we have been trying to get better. Unfortunately it seems like you haven't picked up a mag lately to see the attempts.

If you don't read the mag, that's okay. I'll never shove our mag down anybody's throat--everybody has a choice as to what they want to read. But if you don't know what GamePro is doing currently, please shut up about it. When you start reading it again, then you can start judging it again. But if you remain ignorant of the mag by choice, you've got no right to say what we are and what we aren't. I don't review games I haven't played, you know?

Rare, please tell me which spec sheets you're talking about and how they were "misinformation." Chances are I was the one who compiled them. ONE mistake was made, a cut/paste typo concerning the clock speed of the Dreamcast, in a special PS2 booklet in the December 2000 issue, and I personally apologized for it to everybody who took the time to write me e-mail about it. I hardly think that an honest mistake in a chart counts as something insidious like misinformation. So unless you have some proof of this willful "lying," it'd be best to not make wild accusations.

Ralfa, don't pull punches. I'm here, I read, I listen, I answer. Constructive criticism is always welcomed. I have an email address--danelektro@gamepro.com. GamePro's got a web forum too. Feel free to use either with GP feedback and not clutter this very specialized forum with OT stuff.

And for the record, I don't think EGM sucks. I think they put together a good mag. I respect what they do, even though they sometimes take unfair shots at us. But oh well--get in line, I guess. I also don't think it's fair to judge them on one review that you disagree with. It's just an opinion. Take it for what good it does you and move on. If you see a trend, well, that's something else.
