Maybe they consider the '98 edition a mixture of all the previous ones.

Its a dream match.
It never happened, cause it was a dream.
Stupid story anyway, I never cared for stories in a fighter.

Not to be a smartass...but I thought it was "The Slugfest"? How is that a dream? Oh well.....SNK can't count anyways......

KOF'98 Is titled 'the slugfest' in the US only, the Japanese version is subtitled 'Dream Match never ends'.

How else can you explain Mature, Vice, the NFT, and Rugal making appearances?

Alright - time for a (reletively) dumb question.
I know what happened to Yashiro, Chris and Shermie at the end of '97. But what happened to Mature and Vice? Due to my gameplaying skills generally sucking at the time I couldn't finish it with that team and now I cant find a KoF machine anywhere (all my local arcades closed down).
This has been bugging me for ages.

Cheers

...but that's my point. Why did they go and change the damn name for the US if it was going to be a game that didn't count in the series?

Nick...yeah I know......I like that name ALOT BETTER!!! I was just saying that since SNK changed the name that reason for not counting it doesn't count in the US, right? Whatever on this topic......I understand why it doesn't, guess my real question is why the hell they changed the games name in the first place.......

After kicking Goenitz's ass, Iori goes thru a blood riot and kills Mature and Vice.

Sorry if I spoiled the ending for you.
