Metal Slug 3 BLOOD?

I am interested in purchasing the english version of MS3. It would be the first Neo-Geo cart I have baught. But, im wondering if the English version will have the Blood or will It be Censored? I have Heard that all american releases of neo geo games are censored. Is this true?

Japanese consoles (NTSC SYSTEM) will play games completely uncensored, blood and all. However, the English version console (PAL SYSTEM) will censor certain games, like Last Blade, Samurai Shodown, & Metal Slug.

I also specifically asked SNK if the programming of English MS3 was to be changed in any way. They said it would remain exactly the same as the Japanese version program and provided an answer similar to the one above.

Yes, forlom, Shawn is 100% on the mark. As you may not be aware, the chips in the English carts and Japanese carts are EXACTLY the same. It's the BIOS in the actual Neo Geo system that determines whether or not certain things are seen or not seen. A prime example is the first Samurai Shodown. There is no way to get blood with the cart in a US system, but plug the SAME cart in a Japanese system (or a mod'ed system that has multiple profiles) and you get the bloody original version with which you are familiar from the arcade.

Also, the BIOS determines which title screen you get as well. Using the Samurai series again, in the English BIOS setting, the Samurai series is known as "Samurai Shodown 1,2, 3, etc." With a Japanese BIOS, you will see the Japanese title screen that will say, in Japanese characters, "Samurai Spirits," "Shin Samurai Spirits," etc.

And BTW, Metal Slug 3 is a GREAT way to start your Neo stash. It is a GREAT, GREAT game and much fun. Oh, and, to my recollection, the "Zombie Blood Hurl" from stage 2 is intact even with the English BIOS running.

Just so you know when Shawn was talking about "English" version he was refering to the Europenan-styel English.

The "North America" or American Neo Geo is NTSC Standard.

The US, Canda, Mexico, Japan and other parts of Asia use NTSC, National Television Stadards Commission.

Europe (except France) and parts of Asia, India and Africa use PAL, Phase Alternating Line.

France, Russia and everyone else uses SECAM which is a French abbreviation, if I'm not mistaken, and I'll be damned if I remember what it means.
