The Sellers Forum needs a change

I think it would be a good idea to have at the top of the Selling Forum page either a scrolling marquee of known bad sellers, or a list with links to their real names/addresses/alliases (that would probably be better). I know we have the black book, but it does not seem to keep up to date with the specific transactions we have in the forum. It is also buried away outside of the forums, and many users may not be aware of it.

When a deal goes wrong here, we get large posts explaining the whole situation. After a few months, these threads get buried within the other ones, and new users (and regulars) may not be aware of what has happened in previous months (i.e. what happened in the falkenzx exchange could have been avoided if the old warning about falken had not been buried).

I suggested a separate forum like this some months ago, and several people agreed with it, then it never happened. I also started this thread:

<a href="http://www.neo-geo.com/cgi-local/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=003907" target="_blank">http://www.neo-geo.com/cgi-local/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=00 3907</a>

But it got buried because I couldn't be bothered to keep bumping it. If it were a separate forum, that wouldn't have been a problem.

Unfortunately, the wanted and selling forums can get clogged up with a bunch of people screaming at each other. I'm not saying the screaming isn't warranted, I'm saying it should all be in a separate forum. If a newcomer visits these forums and wants to sell, they go to the selling forum and see 12 people screaming their heads off at each other, they're not going to want to do business here. Also, as you pointed out, some scammer might screw someone over, get flamed hard for a week, then have that thread get buried, and a few months later, some other poor guy gets ripped off by the same scammer because he didn't see the other thread.

There should be a separate forum for buyer/seller concerns, as well as feedback. I originally suggested that it be for NGF and other stuff, and most people were turned off of the idea immediately because they weren't paying attention. The selling forum should be for selling, the buying forum should be for buying. We could call the third forum "Market Misc." or "Buyer/Seller Feedback."

If the mods create a thread that only they can post in, and have it permanantly pinned to the top of the forum, that would stop it from getting burried (and from becoming a shouting match).

I'm really suprised these suggestions aren't getting more attention from the users here, Andy. Maybe this wasn't as big of an issue as we perceived. Maybe it just needs some advertising...

off I go...

That is a cool idea for a sellers/traders/buyers' black book to warn people. But what about fake sales, and trades that are made-up to harm somebody's rep? I have seen many spammers on the board, "the NG.com stupidass" for example, flaming everybody and everybody for no reason, just because he has "doubts"

If a deal is fake, for instance if I say you ripped me off, but we never had a deal in the first place... I believe you would be able to prove we never had a deal (and I'm sure shawn could go into our accounts and check our profiles to see if there were any legit PM's sent). If we come to a general consensus as a community about whether or not someone got ripped off, then within a thread that only moderators could post in (pinned permanantly at the top of the sellers forum, so it can't get burried), they could keep the community informed.

As long as the thread is under the exclusive control of the moderators with the consent of the rest of the members here, I don't believe there will be a problem with people lying.

This sounds like a great idea, we can have a list of approved sellers and a list of bad sellers. :)

I'm not sure a list of approved sellers would be necessary. For one, there would be too many to list. Second, it could create favoritism, and if one of those sellers goes rotten, he may back himself up by saying "he's approved". I don't think it should be used in terms of a feedback forum, just simply as a constant reminder that what you do will haunt your rep for the rest of this site's life... that it will not be burried among the rest of the threads so you can resurrect your reputation a few months later.

Totally great idea but i opened a feedback thread in the general discussions board and it only got 4 hits

I have loads of traders and sellers i could add to the list of the good side

next week if a certain individual doesn't come through i will be adding a bad trader from the board

Myself and another couple know about this guy and if he doesnt come forward his ass is grass thats all i am saying for now

Great idea - if you are looking for people to check it from time to time i would be more than happy

The only thing i think member should be aware of is:

What would happen if a member had a personal vendetta to ruin anothers name for no reason, you would have to back up with proof that a sale has gone wrong with all communication and links if possible, then there can be without a doubt who the guilty party(s) are

Thats my 2 cents - for now but a fantastic idea :)

That really does not do much good as it is still not certain. This site can be a joke sometimes with the Neo-Geo.com spammers. We need to regulate the NG.com stupidass(es) that post only to confuse members. Just read some old thread on "bad sellers alert" or "I need some refs" for the spammer(s).

Personally, I'd like to see an "eBay"-esque feedback system for boardmembers that buyers/sellers could use once a transaction was completed...

Just something, anything more than what's there now. A sticky thread, a separate forum, something.

A feedback forum would be simple enough and east to create.

There's a lot of good/bad trader posts, and they are a tremendous help, ecspecially to the newer members. I know that when I first signed up here, I spent a good chunk of time browsing the selling forum (and there was a damn lot of pages) to check before sending people any money.

A forum would put all info in one easy to find place, and clear all the "unwanted" posts from the selling forum. Problem solved.
