Dear Shawn, Bio, Bobak, and other esteemed mods,

The time has come to wipe out post counts. Think of all the needless posts and spamlords that would instantly wipe out. Not to mention all the other posts thrown up by old hands who are sick of the likes of Ray_7 and Tora Kouhi. It's time to realize that a stupid little number at the bottom of everyone's post is a giant cause of wasted resources. I believe we could keep the ranks, and have them advance via an invisible count. Having War Room posts no longer add to post count was a good idea, but is still ineffective against folks who rack up their counts with ingenious four-word replies to monotonous threads. Kill the post count!!!

I soooo whole-heartedly agree with this. Make the post counts viewable only from Profiles, just ditch the display that shows up on each post.

Now, you tell me it's not all in the name of showing off. Who the hell cares about crap like that? My feeling is that if the post count will help keep that traffic up, those statistics up, I seriously doubt it will disappear. Very sad really.

I like post counts displayed.. they tell a lot about a person...

As for people like Ray_7, lock there post counts...

Why should others have to put up with something they don't like because of other people...

I doubt it would solve much anyways...

A valid point NBM, but I'd like to think the cost savings by having less absolute crap posted might offset the possible lowered traffic. That's not something I know a whole lot about though, so who knows.

I'm for this. Get rid of them. The only thing post count tells about a person is how many times they clicked the 'Add Reply' button.

Good idea! Ditching the counts and keeping the ranks means that people can still show off if they really want to. Plus I'd imagine that NG.com gets enough regular visitors that DONT care about post counts to keep hits high...

By staying here, we promote the downfall of the neo goe gaming community. It's not to say that people will stop playing the neo at all, but the site will crash and burn like another DHP, NeoAlecs or Dolphinlordssnkneogeodomain. After enough funsters arrive, people will leave.

If Shawn can keep affording to stock up on so many hundred copies of new NGH releases, I seriously doubt the cost of this BBS is that significant to him.

Honestly, it's his place, and he is paying for us to continue using it, although since assuming his "not mingling with the masses" attitude, or maybe not attitude but simply actions, he's somehow been made to be popular, which I suppose anyone would like. Many a moron also gives him full credit for the site, which Shawn himself has said he didn't want (it's basically a group work these days). So all in all, why do anything differently now to change that? I may have been around in the "Neo Scene" only since Sept. '99, but from what I've seen he is the only person ever to have used his money to make a name for himself, rather than being a consistently good, contributing member like many others in the past have been, or a total jackass, or simply himself, or just something other than someone using his wealth in an attempt to gain internet fame.

I think showing the number of post counts is dumb. Many boards I've visited have this issue come up. I say axe the counts, but do leave the cool titles. I really like the custom titles that pop up.

Eliminating post counts would make this forum so unlike the other forums.The forum might get less popular.Just look at the war room.After post count was eliminated,no one post over there often and the fun was gone.Spammers should get their post count toned down.
I am not a spammer or anything but i'm just stating my 2 cents.
