I realize that many people have suggested these, but rather than bump month-old threads I'm going to list what I think will add some character/speed/cool stuff to the forums:
1.) The Calendar.
I miss the days when I'd go to the forums, see someone I'm pals with, and get ready to post a "Happy Birthday, (whoever)!" but then I already see one there. I remember that I was having a really great day on MY birthday last year, and after I got home to the forums, I see a lot of my friends had posted in not one, but two birthday threads dedicated to me. It's times like this when I think "Who cares if we've never met, we're friends anyhow." about our little community. I don't know of anyone who wouldn't get happy at seeing a lot of his/her fellow members take time to wish him/her a happy birthday.
2.) One signature per page.
Some people here have some large sigs. It becomes rather annoying IMO to see someone with a big signature post four, five times in the same thread, and just see that big signature a lot. We used to have it where you only saw the signature once per page, and that was plenty in my opinion, why do you need to see it more? I feel that allowing only one signature per member per page would make browsing the forums more efficient.
3.) Those little phrases underneath your name that changed when you got more posts (aaaugh what's it called?).
Oh, more nostalgia. Who can forget the surprise at getting 330 posts and suddenly there are three lightning bolts under your signature? Or the joy you felt to get a few more posts and realize you're some other witty phrase with little icons underneath? These also added a bit of character to the forums IMO, they aren't at all nessecary but they made us us. And if that list is gone I'd be glad to help start over with a few fun phrases (oh ho, alliteration).
4.) Stats.
I remember when I was newer here we had stats for the boards, with stuff like avg posts/member on it. It was kinda fun to know that one was only 4 posts more to being the average, or that you had the average beat 2 times over.
5.) The Featured Member on the front page.
This was always fun to see, even though it was entirely random. I always thought it was kinda cool to see one of my buds on there, and like the calendar and the posts being represented with a phrase, it gave us a little more definition and uniqueness as a forum.
Remember these are just suggestions, none of them are really necessary but I'd like to see them re-implented.
