I dont know if this has been suggested and im not going to research the archives to find out so here goes. Lately I've been seeing a lot of the older members getting pissed at newbies for posting old topics, what they believe to be stupid questions, and so on. Basically the older members who know their stuff and have paid their dews feel that you need to know your stuff i.e. neo geo knowledge or forum topic history before posting a new topic. I have heard suggestions of a newbie faq but honestly how many people would give a rip about reading that before posting a topic. Honestly no one new is gonna care how long you've been here or how much you know. The point is you've got two parties which make this forum work. Youve gotta have the knowlegeable members but youve also gotta have the new blood. Newbies are always gonna have to start learning about SNK and these forums some time and if you squash that by bashing them for posting topics you've already seen then youre gonna drive them away thus hurting the growth of the Neo Geo community. That being said I suggest that there should be a forum set aside for the Neo Geo Elite i.e. those who have been around since the beginning and/or have proven themselves to have extensive knowledge of the Neo Geo community and SNK itself. You could vote new members in and assign them a password which allows access to the Elite forum. You could have all custom avatars, initiations, heck you could have a toga party for all I care. Point being I dont want to see newbies bashed for saying something someones already heard and I dont want to see older members getting insulted seeing topics arise that they feel are inferior to their stature in the neo geo community. The forums in the Blizzard Diablo games also have a unique solution. Forums where you can start your own and asign a pass to give to who you choose so as to make your own discussion group. Either way would work but in the end its probably to much work and people will keep on bitching and moaning. O well what ever.

if there is an "Elite" room, people with huge sigs like that should be excluded

I dont agree with this idea, it would be better the more experienced help out the newbies. Who do you think helped them, if there was a room like this it would split the community in two. Lets not have a North neo and a South neo the civil war should teach you about this.

A room for the elite? Damn, youre really sad. Gee, why dont we call it Mr.Wizards bedroom so he can sit there all by himself, with his hand on his 'joy-stick'. Use your time on this planet together and keep the scene strong. Let people look UP to you, not away from you.

ohh, and am I the one mentioned in your sig now? I feel so honored.

yes it was a smart-ass reply, because I figured this was another "joke" suggestion. If you were being serious... well, you're not as 3L33+ as you think you are anyway

Actually I only have a problem with huge ass sigs because some of us are still running around on Dial Up and it's quite rude to get something like that loading on your screen.

Also the fact being that a large sigs sometimes stretches the page out normally than it should be and thus fucks with the wordwrapping as well.

Not trying to be a dick but there is no honest point in having a giant sig. If you have to have an image, make it a decent smaller sized one. It's only fair to other posters on these forums that you would do that. :)

I'm convinced that an "executive lounge" style part of the forum for "elites" wouldn't be the best idea to implement at this juncture. If this were put into action, it would have to be based on something other than raw post count numbers, or else the "spammers" as well as real contributors would end up in said forum. Secondly, setting up this kind of a forum would pose a logistics problem, as I seriously doubt that any of the mods around here want to be charged with the task of hand-picking people to populate the suggested forum with. And besides, we already have something here that's sort of similar to the concept you're suggesting, and that's the "mod forum."

But on the subject of people unwittingly posting duplicate threads or threads dealing with dead tired issues, I'm sure that, if we ever get our search feature fixed, this issue will be remedied to an extent.

Mr Wizard, basically, you need to grow a thicker skin and learn to shirk off comments people make that bother you. I viewed the thread that prompted you to post this, and while I'm sort of disappointed that some of our "veteran" members jumped you for bringing up an old topic, you'll just need to learn to roll with the punches around here, or else you'll never enjoy your stay. It's true that the Neo-Geo scene is a bit more hostile than many other on-line communities and has a bit of the old wild west/unregulated feel to it. Its been that way since the days of the DHP list and all the way up to this site. However, if you stick with the scene long enough, you'll come to appreciate its quirks.

Heh, any scene where $300 is the norm for a new game is surely weighted down by more quirks than you can shake a stick at.

I agree... there are already a few jokers on a certain mailing list that is trying so hard to make the Neo Geo some "executive class" system for the "elite". And although it is failing miserably, it is a major annoyance to see their antagoistic actions repeated over and over again. Making a supposed "elite class" of Neo Geo people for this forum would just be buying into that whole ideal that people just don't want to see.

I think the best way to deal with things like this is make some sort of newbie FAQ... something that people can go to and see all of the basics. NCS does this on their sales pages with some basic questions about their business practices, and answer the typical questions any newbie would ask about an internet game dealer that sells imports. Neo-Geo.com could easily do the same about certain titles, gameplay issues, storylines, and even "availability" of games.

Anyone that posts to these forums should be treated equally, regardless who they are or what games they own. As long as they make it a point to act like adults or mature children, everything should be fine.

That's my two bits worth... :)

DolphinLord and VinylBoy I appreciate your feedback as you two are about the only ones who understood what I was trying to say. You guys are on the ball. As for those who still dont understand what I was making the suggestion for I will say this: I am a newbie, I dont know a lot about Neo Geo, and I was talking about a problem between newbies and Neo Geo vets. Now reread my post and read my topic in the news and rumers forum called "?Home-made portable neo geo?" and you will see why I made this suggestion. Basicaly its all about Newbie bashing.

After further thought about my suggestion I suppose you have to have vetrans to teach the newbies. Its just unfortunate the BS you gotta go through to make friends and earn respect in here. I say this because for the most part members here do not act as adults or mature because it usually takes only one comment to have folks here fly off the handle and loose all civility.

As for BBH, I did appologise. Honestly I didnt plan on having that sig up for too long any way. I guess you need to ad a sig size rule in yalls faq. The moderators could have taken it down at any time right? Or at least PMed me about it. Or even emailed me about it. So why are they complaining? And as far as my current sig goes, that purtains to anyone who fits under that catagory and if you fit under it then there ya go. Oh well screw it all. As DolphinLord said, live and learn.

Your right, & it's 100% Bullshit.

Some of theses guys have forgotten when they were newbies too.
Their questions were answered.

I recall being sick of repeating the same answers time & again myself back in '98.
It gets old quick, & just gets more stale with time.

Is that the new guys fault.
Hell No.

It's the experinced users fault.
NG.com members have started bashing every
new guy cause they dont know the exact party dialog.

What a crock.
If they cared to help the communitty.
Make a website & do your best to answer specific questions.

My sites not the best, but it's totally geared to trying to get people a quick understanding of alot of the most commonly asked questions.

If these guys weren't into attacking everyone, & actully wanted top help stop the problem.
They would write up some stuff & give you a web link.

Don't feel bad at all.
We were all new to the neo at one time or another.
Just some guys here have forgotten that.
& some were just assholes to begin with.

Anyway,
If you want to ask a few specific questions without being rediculed by the ng.com new guys greeting committy,
feel free to email me at:
nick_th_fury@hotmail.com
I'm not online alot, so im slow in my responses.
So please be patient.

Ever watch a tv channel called Nicklodeon back in the late eighties. If you did then you'll know were I got the name from. It kind of goes with the avatar. I claim no relation.

Well, I think a newbie forum would be a good idea, maybe we could call it N00b forum, and people with easy questions could ask them there or even new members could post their questions there and pics etc..? I know many forums I am registered on have a newbie forum, maybe we could make one too? :o
