Digging out of old threads

I realize that TonK re-heated dozens of threads before he "left" (well, sort of...), but a couple of ppl intentionally or accidently replied to all the old cruft, including myself ("Can someone translate this e-mail"), which pisses me off.

Of course it's okay to repost in pending threads, like Arakon's Neo->DC controller project, where he needs some time to do the work and to post the results, but there's no need for "Metal Slug X for PSX" or stuff like that over and over again.

I suggest that threads older than 3 months should be archived or deactivated for posting.

If someone wants to add something worth saying, he should start a new thread.

What do you ppl say?

Good points Takumaji. However, I think deactivating all older threads isn't the answer.

Here's what I think should be done (and has been done to some extent, even just tonight when a new spammer resurrected some old threads a short while ago):

Any resurrected threads that have nothing to offer as current discussion, should be LOCKED. That prevents any future replies and lets them fade back away as they should. Then the currently active threads can overtake the locked ones and the problem fades away . . . its not a perfect solution, but it is a start!! <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

Here's a quick and easy thing to do to check on a thread to see if it's old or fresh news.

Look at the date of the 1st post.
