If any mod wants to see the system they have going; PM me and I'll give you my PW/Login for the site so you can see it.

Lots of work, i know. :) But, a great idea.

I asked for something like this before. I still think it's a good idea. But yeah - a lot of work.

You move up in rank by participating with the site, or in this case, forum. As you move up in rank, you get Karma Shots.

Say you read a DriftKing post that you dont like, because he's being a complete asshole. You give him negative karma. WIth enough of this Negative karma, less of the total site [or forum, or the forums functions] are available to him.

Hmm, interesting, but a lot of people would just be assholes with it. It might work with them not being able to do certain things, but if they couldn't view certain threads or something, that would just be dumb.

You might think so. But there have been no abuses at Toolarmy.com, because everyone WANTS good karma, like everyone WANTS post counts.

It's a cool idea, Ray. Unfortunately, what Grandma says is true. "One bad apple spoils the whole barrel." <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[Crying]" />

Not a cool idea. First of all... I don't give a sideways vigina about [my] post counts.

There are a ton of not-so-bright people in these forums, and I can't tell you how many times a misunderstanding/lack of knowledge has started a scuffle. Shit would work just like ebay feedback... someone fucks up and gives you bad karma for no damn good reason... and it's a downward spiral from there. Revenge.

I agree with this...

Axe the postcounts..

A Karma system would be great... Only alow mods and trusted people to give or take Karma...

That's how I did it on my boards... Admin, mods, and I created a 3rd group of trusted people to help manage the Karma...

But who will manage the dogma? :D

Seriously, though, the karma system is probably a better idea overall... every single message board I've ever seen has folks who'll jump all over "n00bs" with low post count... even if the n00b in question is just posting with a new name. Keep everyone on an even keel, and let actions dictate status.

I would limit it somehow, though... if not restricting the ability to alter karma to moderators/trusted people, perhaps you only get a certain number of "votes" either way, per some given span of time (a month)? Just a thought.
