Why not just make a single "International Forum" where people can make threads for whatever language they want.

This should keep people from feeling left out if their particular language is not represented and be less overhead for the boards in general I would think.

Take the top 3 languages and give Mod status to one person fluent in each (3 total).

On a side note, I'm a bit put off by the idea of non-english posts. Not due to any kind of bigotry twoards any other nationality but because I may miss out on some good posts due to them being buried in a forum that I would not frequent due to my native toungue.

I actually think this is a good idea. For example, there are several Portrogese members, but not nearly enough to warrant an entire forum. Heck, for the international forum, why not have it have an option when you make a new topic to select what language it's in to make it easier for others browsing those forums. That way, the topic coud be in a certain color or the country's flag could appear beside it.

I can swing with this idea.

Even just one international forum is more than what many other message boards offer.

Although, you can't moderate what you can't understand... Shit can go down and how can anyone tell what was said - spam, racism, threats... Will neo-geo.com be held accountable for any of these complications when it cannot moderate them properly? I hope not. But I can see it getting to that point. That's why many boards are English only. Not just because they're based in America, but because most people with an internet connection speak and read English well enough.

We were discussing this in chat and i have to concur this idea sits well with me also.

If we can have a simple international forum section, it would literally give Stephane what he wants.

Equality for everyone in one section.

I posted this in 16-bits thread:

If this was really 100% neo-geo based, the only non-english forums we'd have would be Japanese and Spanish, with the occasional Portuguese.

And only soccer threads would get French, German, Italian, Arabic, and Korean.

i think we say screw it all and just have one big

If we get a birthday forum, I also want a good-bye forum.

Nah, in all honesty, I think a rom forum would be the next greatest thing.

Or maybe we can have a rom section, and then have it broken down into languages and birthday forums. Of course the next logical step in that section would be to include a selling/wanted forum.

One universal International forum sounds like a good idea. We could add flag pics for the message icons to help viewers to distinguish the language. I doubt the foreign members will like this idea much, since they would naturally prefer a dedicated language forum.

Honestly, I think we have too many forums as it is. Would like to bring the # down to 16. We are considering merging 16-bit with General, phasing out 16-bit in the process. Also, due to low activity, Hyper 64 and Creative are under consideration for being phased or combined with other forums.

I would like to hear from more members on the above ideas (post here), and this will also be discussed with the mod team.

yeah, I think the Neo 16-bit forum should go, and the heading for the NGPC and Hyper 64 should be "Other Home Systems"

and/or "Gameplay' should go...not much to talk about there really...except Combos...but that can be put in the KoF section...wait...

I like the idea of one international forum.

A catch all would work out well, and sorting them is not an issue.

If you are Italian, just look for the posts you can read.

The gibberish=Portugese, Spanish, German, whatever else.

Why not merge the 16bit, hyper, & ngpc into one forum for system discussion.

I would also merge creative & general.

I also say axe the war room, & just moderate this BBS like adults with rules.
That room is just an excuse to allow people to act any way that they wish.
Rather than attempting to get along.

i m not sure about mixing it with the NGP one since
the NGP one gets alot of visits.
but you have my vote to axe the sig test forum,
i mean the creative forum.

Definately I agree with the idea of just 1 forum for all non-English languages. That way we Spanish-speakers and our Portuguese-speakers brothers will be happy, and so will any other language speakers. I quite agree with the content of Stephane's complaints, maybe not the form.

Just put some way to identify the language (or we can just read the title) and some mods there. However I think that only 3 with the "top" languages are not enough, I would say at the very least 4 (German, Italian, French and Spanish). Portuguese is very similar to Spanish (me myself can read it quite well) so the Spanish could mod the Portuguese posts I guess. I guess either me or Neo-Jorge could be the Spanish mods.

And about the other forums... I personally only use News, General Dis, Tech, the Market ones and Unrelated. Only from time to time Gameplay and 16 bits, and Suggestions when there's something going on like now with the International forums.

I wouldn't axe the war-room. However I would make it in a way that any topic dies in about a week of its last post. I would merge the 3 systems forums and the 3 gaming forums. And let the creative one die.

Well, tho I'm German and like posting in the new German forum, I had similar thoughts about the international forums. I think they will grow too big too quickly, and I have the feeling that they tend to keep halfway intelligent (but non-English speaking) posters away from the English fora like General.

I think ONE separate international forum for ALL non-English threads would suffice, this would also help to solve the problem with the Spanish and Portuguese ppl requesting their own place to post in their respective languages.

I will post a link to this suggestion in the German forum to start a discussion about it, let's see.

I think one international forum is a great idea, you don't have to flag the posts though, since members can look for the post they can read...This will hopefully end all the fights around with the portuguese bros.

It would be good cause nobody would have a reason to complain about being 'singled out'. I sometimes wonder if the people involved are even offended, other then to have a reason to cause a dispute. I am sure we can all get along on decent terms. If somebody gets mad at a person due to the language barrier, all you have to blame is yourself. Everything here is on par with everything. May be hard to understand...

I find that if we took time to learn another language we could probably have a inner focus.
In a realistic world, make the International Forum.

Seems cool, but don't mix the NGPC forum with any, its not worth it I tell you! Theres still a fairly large group of NGPC people visiting it from time to time. And while your at it delete the childroom.

One global international forum would be good.

However, if many threads are posted by one group, it'll force the other groups' threads to go down and off the page. Having one catch-all section means that everyone in it will have to try and behave, as the original "foreign-language" threads. Frequent spammers might spoil it for everyone.

Also, does "international" mean strictly non-English threads? If people from different non-US contries want to organize a get together or something (in English), they can do it in Unrelated/General Discussion/News and Rumours depending on context?
