Hey Shawn, since Alec stopped taking submissions to his list, would you consider continuing it here?

I've always enjoyed reading them and looking for updates. It's a shame that it's been discontinued.

I've got them all saved on one of my sites, I just managed to save it before they went offline, if anyone would like to have them.

That list always reminded me of the old days
when BigBruno's & Alec's were the two top neo sites around.

I would not even bother with the "Inspired By," unless the person starting it actually WAS. We have had our own Threads in Unrelated Topics like this, one started by myself, and some by other people. I, for one, never bothered with Neo-Alec's site.

I disagree. Thats list is neo-Alec's.
He went through a hell of a lot of work making a nice site for neo fans back in th day.

If shawn closed down this site in the future.
It would be uncool of yall to take his stuff
for your own sites without his permission.
Many of us were members of Alec's site.
Hell, thats how I met many of yall.

Please dont taint the "good ol days" before the flames took over the scene.
If he doesnt want us to take it, then I say no.

I said nothing about copying Neo-Alec's list. I have not even seen it. Why should we not make our own, original list simply because someone else made one somewhere else?

Its the reason people came back again & again.
So to me, it'll always remind me of alec's I guess.

I can see your point, Nick. Some of us have never perused Alec's site though, yet have started similar threads on this one. They were never a concerted effort, though. I think it would be cool to make our own, simply because it would be our work, compiled by the members of this site.

To Bio and Bobak: How about a compiled list of "Signs that we're copycats"?

Not meant to be an insult, but let's come up with our own ideas, guys. That's my suggestion.

Hell, I think most of the things on Neo Alecs list were dumb. I say we create a better list.

As for you statement on copycating, if you were to hold that arguement, then every neo geo website is a copy of the original neo geo website (which would have been a bbs). Neo Alec had forums, so I guess your arguement would mean that this site, the NGF site, DL's Yahoo Site, and Neo-Lord's site are all copies. Your arguement does not hold water because if finding inspiration were wrong (inspiration, mind you, not directly copying), then there would be no new work produced.

I suggest creating a new list that improves upon the Neo Alec list. Much in the same way the movie "Star Wars" was inspired by the Akira Kurosawa movie "The Hidden Fortress." Much like "Clueless" was inspired by "Sense & Sensibility."

As far as I know, I'm the first person on the face of the earth who's spelled his own name out with Neo Geo carts... But I was inspired by the picture I saw of Dion's collection (among others) from my early days in the Neo Scene.

Thus, I can say all acts of creativity in this postmodern era are copies in some way, and that to create better things we must improve on the last.

(postmodernism refers to the fact that, since we've reached a point were we as a human race, are pretty aware of all that preceded us, we can hold nothing too sacred, and that everything is a decontruction/recontruction of already present symbols -much like an episode of the Simpsons or Madonna's latest reinvention of herself).

Based on Alec's past actions and stances on "originality" (among other things), did anyone here actually expect him to give this off-kilter idea the green light? Sheesh, after reading only the first post, I successfully predicted the manner in which this "idea" would terminate... In all truthfulness, I kinda thought the whole "signs" list was bullshit. It just isn't my kind of humor, but hey, everyone isn't alike. If you "dig" it, more power to you. But IMO, this site is better off without the "signs" list and the kiddie-esque air surrounding it.

I assume the suggestion is dropped. Why not carry the inspiration over as something different, such as... "What I said to my wife to justify spending $1300 on Metal Slug" or "Reasons that don't regret spending so much on my collection" or something like that?

I agree, that's a start.

Let's form an agreement on what the list should be titled then. I vote for something like...
"Ways that I justify my spending on Neo Geo items to people that love me"
or
"Reasons that I say that my addiction to collecting Neo items is NOTHING like an addiction to crack"

I do think it should be something with humor.
