prohibit the linking to ROM info

It happens every time a new ROM job comes out. Someone who says they dislike ROMs posts a link to the ROM, or info that easily leads to it.

Just make a note at the top of the news forum that says it's frowned upon at the very least. It makes me wonder what these people are looking for when they run accross this stuff... seems to me like they keep bad company.

Bobak, I believe you stated the rule as: "Talk about it at your own risk, but don't advertise or link to it".

That works for me.

Edit: Maybe this suggestion is incorrect. It's just that I don't see new members posting this info... usually people who have been here a while, and should know better. If it were new members, then I'd say let them post... so we can weed them out early. I guess the older members doing it aren't any better...? <img src="graemlins/spock.gif" border="0" alt="[Spock]" />

Though I consider myself neutral in the emulation debate, I would not be terribly dismayed if any and all emulation news threads were closed. If this is in theory a strictly anti-emu board, how much sense does it make for it to function as an alternative to zophar.net in practice?

Seriously, I have no problems with roms. I play them sparsely, and because so I've bought games such as Last Blade, Art of Fighting 3, and so on which I've never had the chance to do before. Do I have a problem with people selling roms? Yes. Do I have a problem with people acting like idiots when it comes to roms? Yes, and people who support either side.

I try and joke about it on the site because both sides get so serious when debating the issue. I'm more apathetic - I do what I do, and try not to get too involved with the issue seriously (which I have maybe 3 times on this site the whole time I've been here). I can respect the people who are against it and I completely understand where they're coming from. I can also respect the people who play roms for reasons such as testing out games, playing online, or doing movies/sprite rips. What I don't respect is people thrusting their views in the face of others and try to play like they're high and mighty (which I've seen from both sides).

I don't think this issue is something that should get people so pissed off. There's good and bad things that go with the subject. Obviously I was kidding when I said we should have a pirate forum. It was to try and shoot some humor in this situation, which I guess fell on deaf ears. A lot of my posts are like that. So in short, I don't have a problems with rom users, or rom haters. In the end I just have a problem with idiots, which I guess we all do. Hope this clears anything up.

I propose to refer to legal roms ( carts, etc ) as roms, whereas illegal roms would be referred to as romz...

I got nothing against wolfe. I mean, shoot. I think it was over a year ago I met you, KK, and Hidden Warrior. Those were the days of definition. I respect you all.

In reality though, I really have no regrets, I also dont hold any grudges.
If you use roms, then use them. Most people who do use them support the neo in arcades. So they show support anywa. too_short, just keep in mind not everyone buys neo games at release. I am currently more supportive of my MVS addiction then my HC, completely due to prices.
I used to be anti rom this and that, blah and blah. Does the complaining benefit anybody? Dictations are almost always done for self gain.

There is a market, thats the biggest problem. Roms allow me to play others on the net in fighters. Cause all the neo is to me is fighters and shooters. Cut those and im gone.
For quite a while now I have played SS3 online with some friends, and I even play with a keyboard since I gave my friend his pad back.
Me and EW aka Charlie play online often, and its fun as hell. We are not competitive, but more-so respectful of the skills we dish out.

My greatest respect in this scene goes to those who can beat me in a game im good at. Yes, tourney level players are my biggest interest.
And no, I cant play ten percent my norm without a stick.

Man, I can't knock emulators. There's nothing wrong with them... just the people who use them (don't take this the wrong way... I wasn't sure how to word it). I haven't used an emulator before, but I can see their advantages.

ROMs are great for FAQ writers (for screen captures, comparing damage counts, frame rates). Versus play over the internet is also a definite plus.

I just want people who first come to this site to start out with a little passion; work for their games an extra day a week, and to tell us how great it is to finally get to play something their parents wouldn't buy them when they were young. There isn't really a lot of news flowing through the News and Rumours forum, and when first-time visitors come and see that it's filled with ROM links they get the wrong idea about us as well as what the Neo is all about.

Man, I remember I bought the first Super Dodge Ball I found. It took a while to find... I'm glad at that time I didn't buy that 850$ converted SDB from the [unbeknownst to me] freaks. I didn't even have a neo at the time, but I knew some day I'd get to play it. Opening the box... seeing that giant cart. My mother asking me what the hell it was... me telling her how much I dished out for it. I've owned about 50 neo games since then (and had the opportunity to play nearly that many more from some very generous friends I have made), and although I haven't liked every game I played, I still get good memories from each and every one (world heroes 2 with chainsawyak). Good times.

Sublime is right, if we can find easily roms in this board, all that we said and made against the roms is useless. I don't know how it can be made but if it's possible, it must be done. And it's not only for neo geo roms.
