Would you guys recommend buying this game? What is a good price for it? How is it as a game overall?

I payed £57 for mine over the xmas period and love it, it was in mint condition with everything, so u could pick it up for less i'm sure in a little worse condition.

As far as compared to PSX version, ive only played the PSX one for a minute, so can only gauge from that, that the Saturn version has a little (quite a lot really)of slowdown in comparison.

The other characters i enjoy playing with more than Alucard, but they have no story.

I say buy it if u havnt got PSX version.

Personally I liked the Saturn version better to be honest, however... I never could figure out how to beat the game using Ricther due to parts of the game being the areas you'd morph Alucard into mist or into a bat to get to. The PSone version is Aces over the Sat one though, but if it's at a good price, why not you know?

I own both, and the Playstation version is better. The slowdown (on the Saturn) is a bitch, the one new stage doesn't add much, the added enemies don't really fit the mood and some of the transparencies are messed up as the Saturn's hardware is forced to "fake it", producing some pretty crappy effects. I remember the map screen being annoyingly misplaced as well (compared the PSX version), but I don't remember why.

Most of these quips are exaggerated, however, because once you've been spoiled by the PSX version, the Saturn one just isn't worth it.

I would stick with the PSX.

saturn can do transparencies, its just this game doesnt.

also, yes, the map is a fuckin BITCH in the saturn one.

gotta hit start to go to the menu, and select map, with LOADS inbetween.

hit select in the psx version and its up right away.

you use the map a lot too, atleast i did.

saturn version> psx version i mean the saturn version has more areas, more weapons, and more characters, and only like four or five occurances of slowdown that i've seen, so quit bitchin about something tha aint all there. get the saturn version you won't be dissapointed at all, and i've owned the psx version for years so you could say i've been "spoiled" by it but once i got the saturn version it just blew mw away.

Well Steve, the deal with the Saturn version of C:SOTN is that it was designed and coded for the Playstation and the Saturn version is simply Konami's attempt at getting their PSX original onto the Saturn (with an added chraracter and some new areas).

The game was designed for the PSX and was awesome on the PSX. Get the Saturn version only if you're a Castlevania fanatic really.

And I'm a diehard Saturn gamer, but it's just not meant to be on the Saturn. And it sucks really, because the Saturn is a much better 2D system than the PSX, and it's too bad Konami never made a Castlevania game designed for the Saturn hardware as it would have been amazing.

Too bad.

NOW I remember. Yeah, that was horrible. And this is the type of game where you use the map like once every other room, so it gets really annoying, REALLY fast.

The Saturn version is my personal favorite. I've played through both versions a good 5 ot 6 times each and I have to go with the saturn. I really really like all the extras thrown in and the remixed classic tunes customized to each character in certian parts of the caslte. I think it's a stelar presentation over all. Also the HUGE enemys that took the entire screen ran at a much higher resolution and if you notice the PS version is slightly letter boxed so they stretched the screen to fill in the saturn version. Sure the slowdown and transparencies suck, and the map can get kind of annoying, but all the other extras (expecialy Richter in his new outfit) really make the game shine.

Richter can jump to infinate heights if you master his upper jump technique ...after you jump you press down then up and jump you have to time it right ...if you learn how to do it successfully you can jump in mid air to any area you want .

I have a copy for sale, $50 shipped. The disc is in near mint condition, but the back page of the manual is a little rumpled... Nothing major. I can take pics if you want. Let me know if you're interested.

I bought it because I love the game, nut man, the PS one is soo much better. Here is a list of what makes the SAT version not so good:

1. Loading in the middle of the level

2. The map, and status screen LOADS! eek!

3. The characters are smaller

4. The Sound FX are way more compressed, so the quality is pretty low

5. The lighting effects are gone

6. The Morphing effects are gone

7. The new levels (minus the Cursed prison) really don't fit the texture of the game.

Still, it has some cool new music, and it's worth it if you are a Akuma-Jo hardcore freak.

You don't have to get to every area with Richter to finish the game. In fact, you can blow straight through the game unitl the end. I finished the second castle in about 10 minutes...

I agree with most everyone here. I have both versions and have played through both twice. The PS version is just so much nicer because of the load times. I'd say buy it if you really think your going to play through with maria and you really want the extra 10 minutes of cool area (the new areas are really awsome, its a shame they didnt release this version for the PSX.)

Chainsaw, I have to pass for now.

Hey, do you save Castlevania on Saturn by memory cart or internal data? I heard that the only way to save is through internal data but I find this hard to believe. Does it take up a lot of blocks?
