Here is a guy gamers have heard about ever since 1991. Rumors, fake pictures, Sheng Long was like the Loch Ness Monster!

EGM ran two April Fools Jokes on Sheng Long alone, one in 91 or 92 and the other in 97 when SF III came out.

I don't think he's dead, in terms of storyline... or is he? Maybe if Sheng ever shows up, Capcom will make a twist and make him somehow related to that Dragon wannabe, Fei Long?

Anyways, I can't wait for the day Capcom unleashes him.... who knows... maybe SNK vs. Capcom 2? I'm sure he'll be featured in a game one day.... he just HAS to....

No one really knowns whether or not he was killed. We just know Gouki beat Gosetsu before he attacked Ryu and Ken. I suppose it could happen, then again Capcom doesn't have the sense to do something like that.

There IS NO SHENG LONG. I mean, unless you're referring to Goutetsu, who was the original master of Ken and Ryu's style. I'm quite sure that he's dead...but if he were alive...he would be OLD. VERY VERY OLD.
I find it very unlikely that he'll ever pop up.

Actually, I remember another Sheng Long joke in EGM awhile back, in Street Fighter Alpha 2. It was Gen's head on Akuma's body. Pretty funny.

I hope not. I don't care for Ryu & Ken and I hate Akuma with a passion. Last thing I want to see is another of Capcom's lame and cheaply too effective fireball, uppercut freaks.

Sorry Pollyanna, the supposed name for shenglong in Japan in Gouken. Apparently Gouki's brother, but I think Gouki says he killed his brother. He mentions it in his Zero 2 ending I think.

it wouldn't surprise me. Capcom were stupid enough to unleash Evil Ryu and, unbelievably, Evil Sakura. They'll whore any old character to get more more tokens in the machine.

Alright guys, actually I'm Sheng Long. I've hidden from the people for a long time. People at Capcom interviewed me once and I allowed them to use my name in the game called......Street ...Street something......I didn't remember.

Shen Long is another name for the Dragon Punch. This is true.

So, So True. EGM made him up after Ryu's statement "You must defeat Sheng Long(Dragon Punch) in order to defeat me!", or something like that.

Sheng Longs Jap name is Gouken..... Gouken is the brother of Gouki (Akuma)..... Goutetsu trained Gouki and Gouken......Gouken was a stronger fighter and trained Ryu and Ken..... Gouki grew jealous and allowed a demon to enter his body..... Ryu and Ken left the dojo one week before Gouki killed Gouken and Goutetsu..... Gouki lets Ryu live so that Gouki himself can "Train" him into becoming Evil Ryu.... Sheng Long also means Dragon Punch, as stated by Rade Kuruc.....

Sheng Long from the first April Fool's joke was actually the creation of the original Sushi X. A friend of mine, Ray Price, worked for EGM back in those days. Sendai Publishing, who originally published EGM before Steve Harris sold it to Ziff-Davis, was based in Lombard, IL, not too far from where I live. I actually know a number of people that worked on the magazine from the middle to the tail end of its prominence (it stinks nowadays), and I had a big laugh when Ray explained some of the back story about it.

Apparently the original April Fool's joke got coverage from Japanese publication Famitsu and caused such a tremor in the SF fan base that Capcom Of Japan was INNUNDATED with phone calls asking about Sheng Long's existence. Capcom Of Japan was FURIOUS with EGM over the joke, so much so that Sendai was forced to admit it was a joke rather than let fans figure it out on their own. It is because of that reason that the April Fool's jokes from then on were all admitted to the following month. Capcom Of Japan had to even modify its phone answering system to include a blurb stating that 'There was no such character as Sheng Long in Street Fighter, so stop calling us and asking about it.'

BUT....in this respect, EGM is responsible for Akuma's creation. If you compare Sheng Long's attributed powers and specifics, a few come to mind:

Teleports onto the screen and kills Bison with Instant Hell Murder/Raging Demon
Dragon Punch hits three times
Gray outfit

In fact, most of what Akuma can do, the fictitious Sheng Long was able to do as well. And the April Fool's joke came before Akuma did. Hmm...I wonder if Sushi can get some royalties <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">!

I believe things got so bad with the joke that Capcom DID put Shen Long in as a character in Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game. o_O;
