Since everyone here is a neo fan, i wonderd if those with jamma/mvs rigs play these older PCB's or play them the "other" cough*mame* way???

Ikari n P.O.W. are my faves, anyone else got fave pre neo SNK games??

Vanguard, Psycho Soldier, Athena... yeah, played em all ROMZ style. I have vanguard for 2600, it use to get a lot of play, but not any more. Chrysalis as well... er, I think that is spelled right.

I was actually thinking of starting a topic like this awhile ago... good choice Baseley.

Anyone know if there is a complete list of all the pre-Neo SNK games? the only one I've ever seen/ played myself is 'Ikari Warriors'.

Awhile ago I saw an SNK baseball game for the Japanese NES, was this a Neo port or one of the pre-Neo's?

Never play Vanguard with the sound up. Your ears will explode.

Heh... just check my avatar man. P.O.W. is still the shiznits after 14 years and Ikari III still gets a lot of play out of me, along with the strange but based on reality game about the cuban revolution to overthrow Fulgencio Batista in *Guevara!/Guerrilla War.

A list of pre-Neo SNK games huh? Well here's a start!

Battlefeild/Time Soldiers
Ikari Warriors
Victory Road: Ikari Warriors II
Ikari III: The Rescue
P.O.W.
Crystalis
Guevara! / Guerrilla War

SNK ruled back then, and SNK lives on!

I have never played any of of SNK's older games before the Neo Geo was released.

As for a list, I'll try to list them all:
  • Ozma Wars
    Safari Rally
    Sasuke vs. Commander
    Satan of Saturn
    Lasso
    Joyful Road
    Marvin's Road
    Gladiator
    Vanguard II
    Mad Crusher
    ASO: Armored Scrum Object
    Alpha Mission
    Arian Mission
    HAL 21
    TNK III
    Athena
    Psycho Soldier
    Victory Road

Phew, that took long. Thats all the games that I could think of right now.

I only played Ikari Warriors when I was a kid. It was a dope game. I never heard of the rest growing up. I did try Athena via emulation, and it sucks. I figure, a lot of distance had to occur between the NES days and Samurai Shodown 1.

Yeah, before I could afford a neo/supernova I was into SNK made NES games. Actually, I never really wanted a neo until I played the NES games. I really just liked the games SNK made. Then one day it just hit me... just like that. If I loved SNK games on the NES, surely I'd love games they developed for their own hardware. That day I decided to buy a neo, and I did. That very day.

So, yeah, I've liked SNK for quite some time. As for NES games, Crystalis is insanely under-rated, Baseball Stars is exceptional (a bit ahead of its time), Iron Tank is just flat out fun! P.O.W. is actually better than the arcade version, Alpha Mission is cool - until you die. Athena COULD have been good. I still haven't played the sports games besides Baseball Stars, though, I have Little League Baseball sitting in the trunk of my car.

As for arcade games, I can add SAR, Marvin's Maze, Lee Travino's Fighting Golf, Mad Crasher, Sky Soldiers, Chopper I, Bermuda Triangle (?), The Next Space, Gladiator 1984, Fighting Soccer, Street Smart, Championship Baseball, Sky Adventure, World Wars, Touchdown Fever (1 and 2), Battle Field, Mechanized Attack, Prehistoric Isle in 1930, and Gold Medalist.

By the way, did Sasuke vs. Commander ever come out in the US? I've tracked down the jap version of the board, but I'm wondering if I could find a domestic version for cheaper. If anyone has Sasuke vs. Commander, Osma Wars, or Psycho Soldier (jap version) for sale - drop me a line.

'Satan of Saturn'

That's one of the coolest titles I've heard in awhile. What is that, a shooting game?

If you search by manufacturer at http://www.mame.dk/ you can find most of them, including all the artwork.

While on the subject of non neo SNK games, it's a shame home versions were never done of Beast Busters n Mechanized Attack, i'm pretty sure, but dont quote me on it, that they ran on neo hardware and would have been cool at home, let alone a fukkin neo light gun! buttrock

It's all about Crystalis! multi_co
Agreed, some of the pre-Neo SNK games were fun and some were not, but Crystalis is the one true masterpiece they made that I've played through over and over again.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Back in the day, Mechanized Attack was the shit, PERIOD!! If I had the room I'd buy the dedicated cab. One thing I've always remembered about that game was when you die, it always said "You are dead!" in a low type voice( I think it was this game). I remember they did make a version of it for 8bit Nintendo. Beast Busters was pretty awesome as well. I wish SNK/PM would get back to making different types of games again.
