jap street fighter game questions!!!!

Hey, i have allways wondered this. on the japanese versions of the street fighter games and CvS1 the names are mixed around. Balrog(The boxer) His name is M.Bison, M.Bison(The boss) His name is Vega, and Vega's name is Balrog. Why are they like that? This only accurs on the jap versions, why????

Think about it? M. Bison=Mike tyson. A big black boxer? they couldnt get away with that in the US!

When the game was brought over to the USA, Capcom looked at it and thought: "Hang on! We can't call him M.(ike) Bison! Mike Tyson will sue us! So instead of making new names, they mixed up the old ones. The thing is though, Vega didn't suit (To stop this getting confusing i'll call them the boss, bull fighter and boxer) the boxer, so they called him Balrog and made the bullfighter Vega.... the Boss was then called M.(ajor) Bison....

I never could figure that out. I mean...there's Gouken, Goutetsu and Gouki...but they change it to "Akuma". It makes sense that they chose that as a name...but...I don't know why they felt that the change was necessary.
It's like Darkstalkers. They change half of the characters names...and...I have no idea why. To sound better, I guess. I guess they think the Japanese names sound awkward or something.

Doesn't Gouki mean Devil in Japan? Maybe Cap Usa thought it was too risky to call him that, and renamed him Akuma. Yes that is totally lame. Wasn't Sodom called Katana in some versions of Final Fight as well? I remember that was because Sodom is a sexual act.

Actually..."Akuma" means "devil"...more or less. that's why the name makes sense, but I still don't understand the change. And yes...they did change Sodom's name in the original Final Fight...

I'm trying to think if Gouki could be misinterpreted for anything else.... but i'm drawing a blank. I really can't think of a reason why they'd change his name <IMG SRC="smilies/veryangry.gif" border="0">

Its kind of funny. In Darkstalkers some of the new names are harder for people to pronounce than the original jp ones.

Why are you trying to think of a logical reason on on why Gouki's name was changed? Capcom USA is behind it, that should be reason enough. They probably figured that if they could switch around Vega's, Balrog's, and M. Bison's names, then they could get away with changing Gouki's name and no one would be the wiser.

Actualy, Galon to Jon Talbain does make a little sense. Jon Talbot was the name of the man who was none other than the Wolfman from the old black and white movies. This is probably the only name change that makes even the least amount of sense.

i thought it was something do with the plant called wolfs bain that turned people into werewolves or something like that...

In fact there is major ramifications regarding mike bison

The storyline tells us that he was a disgraced boxer and he could only streetfight because of his past and no longer was available to fight professionally

This game was around the time of Mikes rape case

Because it's fun! <img src="graemlins/loco.gif" border="0" alt="[Loco]" /> How's this theory? The Capcom USA localization department changed it to Akuma because Gouki sounded like "Gooky" in English and was far too wimpy-sounding a name to give to a devil character. <img src="graemlins/smirk.gif" border="0" alt="[Smirk]" />

Most of the name changes are simply changed caused they wanted them changed. I mean they get the characters across their desk at Cap USA and say "Hmm you know what, lets call Bulleta B. B. Hood!! She looks like little read riding hood, and we'll keep the bs and call her oh Baby Bonnet hood!! B Bs like bb gun and she has a gun we have a winner here!!!!" Just think how wacky headed most game developers are.
