Metroid Prime is one of the coolest games I ever played! Never thought 3d games could captivate me in such a way!!

And your mom likes sushi too?

Ehhh...

No.

I've got Prime and I've been working on it for weeks.. I'm about 75% through it and I'm thoroughly unimpressed with it in the terms of a 'metroid' game.

Not to knock the game, It's a really good FPS.. but it's really not a 'Metroid' game to me. It just doesn't have that feel that a Metroid game has. It's missing something and I can't put my finger on it.

.. and scanning everything sucks my nuts. I'd probably have finished long ago if not for that.

What are you talking about man? Prime sucks as a FPS! Mainly because it's not intended to be a FPS in the first place, crappy lock-on feels like an arcade Sega game. As a Metroid/exploration game I think it's awesome - everything has been faithfully updated from the atmosphere to the soundtrack - even that lovely rewarding feeling you get when you find a power-up after searching for so long.

BTW, you don't have to scan everything you know. If you want the 100% rating so much you'd actually enjoy the scanning part. I enjoy reading everything anyhow.

scanning doesnt add to your percentage

if you scan everything you get additional art extras, infact you dont have to scan 1 thing and still get 100 percent

i do agree though - thats its not intended to be a true fps wink

Ehh... let me restate a bit.

Prime is cool as a FPS, because most FPS are just running and shooting in a (relatively) straight line, with little deviation. I'm not entertained by most of them.

I liked it as a FPS because it's not just shooting, there's the whole exploration aspect and relative open-endedness. It *is* a FPS, just not a traditional one.

As a metroid game, it really is not entertaining to me. It doesn't have the metroid feeling for me. Others may enjoy the hell out of it, but it's just not there for me personally. I bought a GC because of this game and it just dissapointed. I like the game, but it's not as much fun for me.

I like to think of Prime as a FPP (First Person Platformer).

Really great game, wish that I had the time to finish it :(.

I like prime - more or less.
Its got some things that annoy me, like the respawning enemies and need for backtracking (tedious), and the need to switch between different visors and weapons is a bit of a pain - though the actual controls for doing so are well thought out.
I'm also not too keen on the platforming, and I don't really give a shit about Samus as a character. (I never grew up with metroid games)

But those are all 'nitpicking' points and dont detract from an otherwise well polished game.
How it shapes up as a 'metroid' game I have no idea - as I've never played any others.
But I do think its good on its own merits.

same here!

About the backtracking on Metroid.... that has been what metroid is all about since the 1st one. You always have to backtrack. Did you notice that in every one of the metroid games... you have to explore 1st... get power ups.... THEN go back to the beginning to get into rooms previously locked to you because you didn't have the powerups at the time :)

I have loved every metroid to date.

Well at first I was disappointed about the game since the best Metroid was is and will be Super Metroid. But playing through Prime, you can't help but feel that they've done a fantastic job going 3d with this title. Ofcourse, it has its faults, but it has way more magical moments. Not only graphical but in terms of secrets and things to discover. Considering the incredible task that the programmers were up against, this is one of those games that deserves to be on top...

Man, you need to try Perfect Dark". That IS a true FPS. I still can't believe how under-rated it is - it pisses all over Goldeneye, from a great height.
