HI! i Just got my akira special edition! I got the metal case one too!
When i ordered it i didnt notice that it
was backorded till i read the thing i printed out. so it took a while and i
was afraid i would get the regular kind, not the metal case! But i got the metal case.
If that wasnt cool enough, i saw the movie for the VERY first time. And I LOVED IT!
It was soooo wierd, I LOVE THAT KIND OF STUFF! Those little kids just creep me out, and when the guy(I cant type his name) well when he got all big and gross, it was just awsome! It is one of my favorite anime movies ever! If anyone can suggest any other wierd anime movies like this one TELL ME! Some examlpes of the movies i like are Perfect Blue, Ghost In the Shell, Street Fighter alpha, Kite, wierd stuff like that.

well that is all i wanted to say! <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

glad you like it mooky!
it is pretty awsome in terms of
how it was made and everything.
did you see the production report?
its been awhile since i seen it but
it sheds alot of light on some of the
motives behind the flik!
i really like it..
i like the US original dub of it but not the
new dub.. i dont think the chara sound as
cool in the new revision. even if it is more
accurate to the script.. oh well.
if you like Ohtomo s stuff there isnt too much
more you can look for movie wise.
you pointed out perfect blue .. a very cool
suspense "thriller" flik which Ohtomo actually
acted as a special advisor for. his involvement is
eh.. kinda evident as it gets really erie
after awhile.
other stuff is he did the intro and ending
to the multi film extravaganza Robot Carnival
a film that featured work by him and other
"visionaries" of japanese animation at the
time.
also you can find Memories. a amazing film in
its own right. you may have to look on ebay
for that one since it never came out in the US
very interesting and nicely made ... 3 parts
and all of them from his short stories which
he was famous for before making any films at
all.
which brings you to the manga!
Ohtomo s manga (japanese comics)
are amazing!
they are truely a sign of his expertise.
i never heard of him having an architecture
backround ... but he truely has the makings
of a master draftsman! his style is really cool too
a little westrenized some people think but
truely cool...
if you have a chance you can check out the
new revisions of the AKIRA manga in US here
by Dark Horse. check your local comic shop.
they should be 25 bucks a pop and around
6~7 volumes coming out. so far up to 3 is out
for what i know. they are B/W which some
people say it should be viewed as .... but....
if youd like a treat you can track down the
epic ( a long ago division of marvel back in the day)
AKIRA comics. they are colorised and are done
very well.. they are very worth getting
but if you want to be crazy. you can search
for the limited edition hard backs which at
the time was released in sets of um...
1~1500 or something.. someone correct me please
very nice. compitiations of the epic collection in 6 volumes. like the original
japanese manga.
i m not sure how easy it is to find all
this stuff any more since i put my AKIRA
collection on hold after getting into the
collecting um lots of games.
but i m sure you can find alot of the stuff
on ebay if your willing to pay the price.
o... a last film you can look for is
NEO TOKYO its like Memories.. a triad of
stories. in one movie.
i never had the pleasure of seeing it but
hopefully i will some day...
wow.. i certainly can go on...
o well...
just dont get me started on AKIRA though..
i can go on for days about that! :P

Now that you got it, can you tell me what it all means? I'm out of the scene nowadays, but I watched that show for about 5 years and never found any semblance of a plot. My senior-year english lit teacher would have had a stroke trying to interpret it.

it definitely is hard to explain
i ll try to give a go.
like i said awhile back
the movie actually is a super condensed
form of the manga which spans a couple
thousand pages
the movie is missing alot of content that
was contained in the original manga.
suffice it to say.
the story in the manga was not "totally"
different from the movie but definitely
the movie deviated from the manga, taking
short cuts. and belittleing key chara in
the manga to smaller cameo chara in the movie
the manga itself doesnt revolve around
any one chara through the entire series.
it actually goes from chara to chara
telling everyones story..
it never focus es just on Kaneda or
Tetsou
or whatever.
what AKIRA is
is two different things in the movie
to the manga.
in the manga he is a child living and
breathe ing like anyone.
in the movie he s a dead child and
has been dead for 20-30yrs but still exists
( i think as an entity of pure power of some kind
as per the doctor mentioned on the escalator
going down to see AKIRA in his 0 kelvin
resting place..
but i could be wrong.)
the movie was made, i believe, to not be
exactly the same as each other, to be separate
entities but still but only to be similar.
an exact telling of the manga would have been
impossible to make feasibly
no one in their right mind would watch a 6~7
hour movie
no matter how intriguing it was ..
so there.
the movie doesnt make sense.
where does that leave everyone?
i ve watch the movie more times then i would
like to mention. but over all this time i generated my
own theories about the plot ..
where i filled in the holes.
AKIRA is interesting in the way that
it doesnt tell you everything. it assumes alot.
but thats one of the reasons i find it interesting my self
aside from the amazing production work that
was thrown into it.
does that make sense?
tell me if theres something i left out.
