Silent Hill 1 owned survival horror on the PSX. The resident Evil serries paled in comparison.

Silent Hill 2 was pretty good, but I preferred 1. 2 was kind of torture in an of itself because of the long drawn out "beat downs" wher eyou had to whack at the monsters ad nauseam. The story though... excellent.

Dammit neobuyer you always ask these questions that I can't even remotely narrow down my lists for. :p Great call on Gargoyle's Quest 2, most people forget about that little gem. :) It's nice to finally see someone else who knows of the awesomeness of Skeleton Krew too. :D

I never played either the SNES or NES versions Warlock (I always thought it was odd how far after the release of the two movies those games came out). Is the Genesis one any good?

Anyways without further ado:

NES~
Castlevania
Castlevania II: Simon's Quest
Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse
Friday the 13th
Gargoyle's Quest II
Ghosts and Goblins

SNES~

Super Ghouls and Ghosts
Super Castlevania IV
Zombies Ate my Neighbors
Zombies Ate my Neighbors 2/Ghoul Patrol

Genesis/MD~
Castlevania: Bloodlines
Ghostbusters
Splatterhouse III
Skeleton Krew

TG-16/Turbo Duo~
Dracula X: Rondo of Blood
Night Creatures <img src="graemlins/tickled.gif" border="0" alt="[Tickled]" />
Samurai Ghost

Playstation~
Castlevania: Syphony of the Night
Clock Tower
Resident Evil

Saturn~
Vampire Savior

Dreamcast~
Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare
Illbleed
Resident Evil: Code Veronica

Arcade~
Beast Busters

Silent Hill series. Those games still freak me out. The best is playing late at night with a few beers under your belt after everyone's gone asleep in an absolutely dark room.

No horror games on neo geo..

Or maybe depends on which meaning of the word horror we mean.

What about Elvira games?

I was just looking at that beauty called scared stiff-elvira pinball.

On the same argument, new Elvira movie is coming out, don't miss it!

I haven't played the SNES version either, but I do have the Genny version and it's pretty good at the beginning but gets repetetive (And kind of hard) as you get deeper into the game. I usually play through the first couple levels and then pop in Splatterhouse III <img src="graemlins/glee.gif" border="0" alt="[Glee]" /> I really just like Warlock for novelty purposes anyway, although the first level is actually very cool- it's a wierd library with all these students walking around that transform into zombies. Kinda cool.

And I can't believe I forgot Zombies Ate my Neighbors!

Don't forget about "Clock Tower" on the PS1. Sure it's a bit slow (point and click game) but if you stick with it you will be sucked into a world of terror and pure evil.

Hey Neobuyer, wouldn't you like to see someone make a game based around the premise of the movie, "Mr. Vampire"? I would.

Sounds like fun neobuyer. I remember looking at the back of the box for the SNES version and it seems similar to what you're describing. Nice graphics and stuff but as you say it seems like a very repetitive kind of action game. :(

NGPC Dark Arms: Beast Busters 1999 kicks ass. :D Wasabi what are you're favorite three weapons to have equipped on the Buster?

System Shock 2 is definitely a must play for anyone who enjoys horror games. There's TONS of great horror adventure games on the PC, way too many to even begin to mention.

The dummy bomb and tentacles. Against the last boss, either tentacles, or the claw blade. I completed that game so many times. It really should have a Scitron soundtrack. MotM did, so why not for Dark Arms?

Oh man, THAT would be one game I would kill for. Can you imagine? You could kill the zombies- or you could just use those magic paper talismans to 'freeze' them for more points. That would be killer. A platformer with enchanted string and chicken blood as weapons...

Yeah, I usually forget about PC games... I seem to remember wanting to play that zombie game 'Flesh Feast' but read somewhere it wasn't any good. I must do some more research :)

Yeah I remember I was actually LOOKING for a Dark Arms sound track CD when I found that MotM one. :(

IMO the round tentacles (not the ones that actually leave your body and travel), the Protect Gun, and the Mano were the best weapons. Mano especially rapes all of the bosses because it does heavy damage and can hit twice per use, goes through walls, etc. The Vanisher laser and bombshell were also very useful. Hell it's one of the few games where EVERY weapon can kick ass and it's just a matter of what you prefer.

That would be killer.

That would be Low G Man with SotN sprites. :D

Unfortunately Flesh Feast wasn't so great (damn shame considering it's Sega). If you have access to "Gamespot Insider" I would check their review of it as it basically hits the nail on the head as to what's wrong with the game. One of the main problems is that you control three human characters simultaneously, so you have to constantly switch which one you're moving, etc. The all around AI/programming is very buggy and the such and the graphics are very bland (not the quality, I mean the actual character and enemy designs and such).

Yeah I know tell me bout it. It would definitely be intriguing -- I just wonder how the cultural gap may come into play.

But imagine -- a gorgeous 3D game with regular vampires... and every now and then one really BAD ASS vampire that's tougher to kill than the foot soldiers.

By the way, how were the Mr. Vampire sequels? I never saw them. Also, did you see "The Ultimate Vampire" with Lam Ching-Ying? I always wanted to check that one out -- I hear it's highly recommended.

Splatterhouse I always forget to mention because it's so the horror arcade game. In a way it's like the first survival horror game almost because of the limited constant throwaway nature of the weapons. God that game is amazing. The chainsaw guy scared the living shit out of me when I first fought him.

Then I was laughing cause of how the chainsaws are still running after you kill him. :D

Watching your girlfriend change into the jumpy beast is scary as well and then 5 minutes later you feel sad because she is dead <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[Crying]" /> <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[Crying]" />

The Silent Hill games are truly a work of art. Truly disturbing is the best way to explain this...experience. So much more than a mere game.

Special mention to Rei Zero (Fatal Frame) as well.
