Your thoughts on game collecting

A few days ago, I made a topic stating that I didn't really care to much for the Dreamcast. The reason I felt this way was because when I had my DC, I only owned 4 games for it. As a collector, I felt that I should have owned more and as a result, I sold my small DC collection. But as of late, I find myself once again strangely interested in the DC. I've even made a list of about 30 or so games that I would like to get if I ever picked one up again. With that said, I have realized that it's not the quantity of a collection that matters, it's the quality. So what I'm trying to say is this, never sell a single system no matter what. Even if you think you'll never pick up another game for a particular system, just hang on to it and the passion will return.

I used to collect games back in my early Saturn days, but I quickly found out that, IMO, collecting video games is, well, silly. I'm paying large amounts of cash for games that just plain suck, just to have them sit on my shelf and look pretty. Just look at the situation with Metal Slug. No game is worth $1600 +, I don't care what game it is. Buy games to play them, not to sit them on your shelf and let them collect dust. These are just my opinions, To each his own I say.

Earthquake I told your ass several times that the DC is a great sytem with awsome games in my genres. You didn't listen oh well. Now you gotta go get a new DC and some games.

BTW selling things that are not going up in price is pointless unless you have a lot to sell. Neo games you can always sell for a lot. DC stuff though not for the most part, There's no point. Are you that strapped for cash?

I have only sold games in which I dislike (a few for my snes and gameboy) thats it. I have not gotten a ps2 or x-box yet. I'm still buying neo games, turbo duo games, saturn, psx etc. I'll eventually get the newer systems but there's no rush. They'll only go down in price as time goes on while the old stuff from SNK and NEC will possibly go up in some cases.

Just my 2 cents

I buy games to play them. 95% of the time I buy games I know I am very interested in. The other 5% is EXTREME word of mouth and I'll bite the bullet.

Another problem is having so many good games, you don't know which one to play. :D

always keep your games - never sell.

I'm thinking a lot before buying a new game, specially neo game. I'm not rich, so any mistake is forbiden.

before I used to buy a game (and system), and sold it after finishing it to get another one. I've lost a lot of money... I bought DC twice and PSone 3 times.

I've decide to buy only good games that I'm sure I'm gonna keep.

I've about 100 games for all system. it's not a lot, and I'm not collecting for competition. I like sometimes to re-play older games and remember the good times I had with it...

i've tried not to sell or trade in my games, but as a broke teenager i'm often times in need of cash. and after i sell or trade a game i feel guilty about it for a while. and then want to play it again. so if you have money don't sell your games simple as that.

Dude, I collect games to PLAY them. With that said, keep in mind I have 120+ NES games, 40+ SNES games, 60+ N64 games (thinking of selling some of the ones that weren;t so good... War Gods.. *shudder*), 35 Saturn Games, ~40 DC Games, 6 Genesis Games, 15 (+ a bunch of other games that I don't count as part of my collection... Sewer Shark...) Sega CD games, 70+ PSX games, 20+ PS2 games, 15 GB/GBC games, 10 GBA games, lots of 2600 games and 19 MVS games. I've played them all (I haven't won them all, but hey, nobody said I was good at them!)

Every game I own (with a few exceptions for N64 games... come on, it was the only new system I had at the time and there were times I was STARVING for new games... even bad ones!) I enjoy.
The only games I've ever returned were Half Life PC (bought it again later on for $10), Saga Frontier PSX (worst RPG I've ever played) and Soul Figther for the DC. I've been playing/buying for so long, it's like a 6th sense finding a good game at this point.

I have a similar problem with DVDs (462 and counting). I bought one, Knight Hunters: Vol.1 and, well, it's the first DVD I've seen that was painful to watch. I watched 2 of the 4(? maybe 5) episodes on the disc and couldn't stomach any more. The next day it was on eBay.
